We wanted to get through football season and the holidays since we travel a ton in those months. We made it all the way to July 1 before we adopted another dog. The house just felt too quiet and empty without a dog in it.
September 30Sep 30 Popular Post When Amber, my dog of 16 years, passed I had no idea what to do with myself. No more morning walks, feeding times, park trips just for her. I live alone so the emptiness at home was just crushing. I lasted about 2 months before I picked up Luna. 8 years later and I can't imagine life without her. With me through the snowpocalypse, covid, etc. Some angels dont have wings. Edited October 1Oct 1 by MissingInAction
September 30Sep 30 Yes, it's been a month or so since Gumbo passed away and I still expect to see her when I walk into "her" room. We still have Pluto, my arch nemesis (and little buddy), but there's deffinitely a void that hasn't filled in yet.
September 30Sep 30 I went for 10 years without a dog after I had to put down my last one. Now, after four years with Sebastian, I can't imagine being without him. It may be time for him to get a little brother.
September 30Sep 30 Popular Post I went twelve years after losing Maggie the Golden to cancer at age 7. Since 2013, we have had four dogs (King passed in 2020; he was an old fellow when we adopted him). Gracie will turn 13 in January (pictured plenty in previous posts) Maeby is 6 (as of March). Archie turns 2 in late November. I don't know how I went 12 years without a dog.
September 30Sep 30 I was gone for a long work trip and this sweet girl couldn’t be happier to see me.
October 2Oct 2 Popular Post I went in the other room to play guitar for a bit and walked back in to this. I wonder what she ordered from Chewy?
October 7Oct 7 Popular Post This sweet girl is crossing the rainbow bridge today. She was technically my in-law’s dog, but we raised her as a puppy and she also spent the last two months of her life with us exclusively when the in-laws couldn’t really take care of her anymore. She was two months shy of her 14th bday, so she had a full life. One of the sweetest labs I’ve ever known. Love you Cray.
October 8Oct 8 Popular Post I don’t want to derail the thread with the rescue v breeder debate. I obviously bought my dogs. I don’t feel a molecule of shame about it. I have the best two dogs on the planet, but I understand the rescue crowd’s perspective. Rescues becoming the cool thing with celebrities and younger folks has undoubtedly saved millions of dogs’ lives. With all this in mind, I volunteered at Montgomery County Animal Shelter today. Many of dogs only get walked once a week. I know we all love and spoil the shit of our dogs, so it’s certainly in our wheelhouses to help out. Just something to think about.
October 8Oct 8 my mate is dropping hints about getting Duke a sibling next year before he turns two. we will look to rescues this time. Duke would love having a full time friend 😊 sound up... 20251004_012341.mp4
October 9Oct 9 Luna is fitting into the houston bar scene quite well. Edited October 9Oct 9 by MissingInAction

October 9Oct 9 Yep. The pic I added is from Red River Ice House. Owned by a UT alum. Everyone was worried about Luna eating the bar cat.
October 9Oct 9 You’re a bold man MIA. They’d probably do better individually, but the girls would be jumping on every single person at Kirby if I took them there. Abandoned patio with their leashes tied to table is about their speed.
October 9Oct 9 Luna stays leashed to my chair the entire time. She wants nothing to do with cats. Got swatted once and that was enough for her. She's a perfect bar dog. Totally chill and stares at people until they pet her.

October 9Oct 9 Met these two at a cafe in Terlingua on Saturday. They were hilarious, especially the chonkier one. They sit and face the door, waiting to greet every new customer (and beg for scraps). Topo and Luna.
October 9Oct 9 Popular Post I had the day every dog owner fears yesterday. I rescued Captain guy 7 years ago (well, he rescued me). We had an inseparable bond - he was literally never more than a few feet away from me 24/7. A few months ago I got diagnosed with cancer (see the I caught the cancer thread) and am weeks away from finishing treatment and beating this shit - he has helped me and my family navigate through the toughest few months of my life. Captain's health started failing during the middle of all this and I had to make the gut-wrenching (yet unquestionably correct) decision to help him cross the rainbow bridge yesterday. He almost saw me through it but couldn't quite make it, and he passed peacefully yesterday morning. RIP buddy, I'll never forget you,.

October 9Oct 9 Popular Post Just had this "memory" pop up. Crosby joined our family 16 years ago today. I miss him still so much even though he's been gone for 4 years.
October 9Oct 9 Maya is a pretty girl, but a complete nutjob. She goes absolutely ballistic if ANYONE other than our family comes near the house. She loves me, UNLESS I go near my wife, who she is weirdly imprinted on. Then she goes nuclear.

October 9Oct 9 Good doggo Captain. Please look up Callie, Magic, Bailey, and Zeke-you'll never be bored!
October 10Oct 10 Popular Post I've been hesitant to post this, but since many of you have posted about your dogs crossing the rainbow bridge, I thought I would share. This is Rose. I never really loved dogs before her. I mean I liked them and all, but not like close. My ex was a vet tech at the time and the week after the VY 4th and five, she got to work and someone had tied this dog to the handicap sign in front of her work. It was raining and in the 40s. Dog barely made it She called to ask if it was okay to bring him home for a night so she could keep an eye on her. Fine. Whatever just make sure it doesn't piss and shit everywhere They damn thing wound up falling asleep on my lap. The next morning I'm at the kitchen table drinking coffee and answering emails..and the mutt falls asleep on my feet Ex " I'm leaving. Help me out the dog in the crate." Me : no Anyway. Her daughter called me a few months ago. I hadn't talked to her in probably 10 years. She found Rose's collar and ashes and brought them over to me. I definitely had to wait until everyone was asleep before I opened the bag with the stuff inside.
October 10Oct 10 They are just the best. The bond with a dog (or dogs) is a deep human connection, going back thousands of years.

I skipped dinner at Lucia, State Fair tomorrow, and probably a deal on last minute tickets I can't pass up to stay at home and chill out with the dogs. I'll miss hitting up Lucia.
