We live about 3 miles off the highway. Magnum likes to run ahead of the truck to the cabin. At 11ish he can still make the 3 miles but it’s at more of a jog now

We’re down to about six hours of daylight per day rand still losing light. Sub-zero temps are the norm. Great time to take a nap on the bed next to the wood stove in the sunlight

Goodbye Willie Beans (don’t even ask, his real name was Charlie).  I know you are running around again like the wild dog you were before we rescued you, chasing squirrels and making friends with everyone you ever met, just to get a scratch and a pet.
Endless sunny days laying in the grass and all the chew sticks you want.

God damnit boys.  This big beautiful bastard is crossing the rainbow bridge on Friday.  It always hurts. But this one really stings.

Not nearly enough time with him but he was loved more than he ever knew was possible.

Good dog, Willie Beans.

I had one of those anxiety-inducing close calls with my little buddy Pluto the chihuahua the other day.  She's 9, so getting up there.  When our big dog Gumbo was nearing the end I made custom food she could keep down, and so of course I had to give Pluto treats at the same time.  Now we call it "knee hugs" -- you want a milkbone?  gotta give me a knee hug.  The other day she just couldn't elevate.  I had all the terrifying thoughts -- what if she has a tumor?  what if she has a spinal cord or hip injury?  The next day she was fine.  Dammit, Pluto.  Go bark at the mailman, again.

Maybe she was just sick and tired of having to act like a trained monkey to get a treat? Ever think of that? Damn, what an asshole.

He is my little buddy. Just showed up in late September, he has been here ever since, even the neighbors can handle him.

Have you gotten a rabies shot?  Might be a good idea.

No need too, he will not bite, even the nibble on a finger is a act of grooming and affection, really tender.

"So I thought to myself, 'when will I ever be in Haiti again?'"

Squirrels very seldom contact rabbies.

Most times a rabid animal with rabbies will kill it with the bite.

LOl, that also.

Just know that we know. I'm not going to say it's the hardest thing ever. But right now it's the hardest thing ever.

I lost my first Golden to cancer at age 7 in 2001 and didn't have another dog for 12 years.  I regret that, but I know how it hurts.  I don't doubt the 300% your best dog ever.  I miss every dog we have had and just love up the three we have now.  I wish they were forever.
