Yeah the sacks argument is dumb.

Guess how many sacks aggy has had all year?

One.

That includes zero against mighty NWSt.

Only because they ran out of time, dumbass.

For the idiots that said Shepherd was automatically going to flip, the ban on him visiting aggy is up this week and yet he still chose to visit us instead.

Na - he's going to TCU instead. Will flip to A&M in October. So much for Aggy decommit season. Sad that people didn't see this coming.

If this dude flips, I don’t think there’s one person who follows recruiting who would be surprised.

The quicker you guys move on about Leal, Demas, Evans, Hornsby etc the better.

What would all of a sudden change Leal’s mind? The 0 sacks by the DL against Tulsa and Maryland?

This. I can’t beleive people still think we have a shot at leal

Yeah it doesn’t always work that way in recruiting. Zero sacks also could mean instant playing time for a DL recruit. We need instant impact guys.

I get that, and to tex's point above, recruits do make uninformed or illogical decisions quite often.

However, in this case, it's not like immediate playing time wasn't obvious before the season, or at least any more obvious than it is now.  What has changed between now and when he committed to A&M out of the blue before the season started? Why are we in a better place now, when all the obvious signs have us trending in the wrong direction and A&M is still travelling up the roller coaster?

We've sucked when we got errebody and we've sucked when we got the 20 something ranked class.  Time for these coaches to put these players in the best position to win a la Gary Patterson

It's gonna feel better sitting at 2-1 come late Saturday night

I focus on recruiting, not most of the fluff pieces writer by the majority of sports writers.  Scott Schrader is the best at this, followed by Biggins.

This Texas kid is the best sports writer, IMO,  Mike Piellucci.

If you had a choice to go watch USC v. Texas or A&M v. ULM, where would you go? Plus, I heard he will OV to A&M for their Kentucky game in October. It's up to Texas to convince him not to go

E.J. Holland: Breaking down 2019 recruits visiting Texas this weekend

Official Visitors

RB Trey Sanders, IMG Academy (Fla.) — Texas has been somewhat of a dark horse for Sanders. Most have pegged the five-star ball carrier to end up back at Alabama, but Sanders is keeping his options open and has always been intrigued by the program. Sanders has a strong relationship with Texas running backs coach Stan Drayton and is impressed with his resume of developing backs like Ezekiel Elliott and Carlos Hyde. If the Longhorns win and wow him on his visit, they could become a threat to land him. Right now, Texas is on the outside looking in.

RB Derrian Brown, Buford (GA) — Texas has at least one commit at every position with the exception of running back. But that could change this weekend. The Longhorns have made a huge push for Brown and have separated themselves as the team to beat heading into this weekend. This will be Brown’s first time on campus and if Texas impresses, a commitment is not out of the question. Area recruiter and last cycle’s Big 12 Recruiter of the Year, Jason Washington, has done a tremendous job in this recruitment.

WR Marcus Washington, St. Louis Trinity Catholic (MO) — The door is open for Washington. With Ohio State still dealing with the aftermath of a scandal, Washington’s recruitment has taken a turn. He was initially expected to make his decision this summer but pushed things back. Texas took full advantage of the delay by getting him on campus. While in-state program Missouri is the favorite here, Texas has put itself in a position to steal him. This weekend could really shakeup this recruitment, especially if the Longhorns win.

ATH Bru McCoy, Mater Dei (Calif.) — The nation’s top athlete is making his way to Austin for the second time this cycle. Yes, USC is the heavy favorite for McCoy. And yes, it’s hard to see him landing anywhere else. But if there is one school that can pull him away, it’s Texas. The Longhorns have made a strong pitch of getting a new experience away from home, being the face of a resurgence and having the opportunity to play both wide receiver and linebacker. McCoy is certainly listening, but it’s going to take a lot to get him onboard.

Unofficial Visitors

WR Elijah Higgins, Austin Bowie — Higgins was thought to be a Texas lean early in the process. But a lot has changed since then. Now, Stanford and Florida are the two teams to beat, and Texas is trying to do whatever it can to reestablish itself as a major player in his recruitment. Higgins is a local kid and is very familiar with the program, but he wants to see results on the field this season.

WR Jaylen Ellis, Round Rock Cedar Ridge — Ellis is currently committed to Baylor, but he is exploring all of his options and is continuing to make visits. This one is a little tricky. While Texas has outside receiver targets higher on the board, they are keeping in contact with Ellis, and he could become more of a priority later in the cycle. Ellis wants to wait to sign until February, and Texas is perfectly fine with that.

S Lewis Cine, Trinity Christian Cedar Hill — Texas has been in the mix for Cine ever since he moved to the Dallas-area from Massachusetts. This will be Cine’s third trip to campus this cycle, and he has a strong relationship with safeties coach Craig Naivar. Cine is looking to make a decision next month, and Texas could really help itself with a strong visit this weekend.

S Jalen Catalon, Mansfield Legacy — Catalon suffered a season-ending injury a couple of weeks ago, but the Longhorns are continuing to make the four-star prospect a top priority. Texas has offered Catalon the chance to play both football and baseball in Austin, and that’s certainly appealing to him. Right now, UT is the favorite, but the Longhorns will have to fend off Arkansas and TCU.

S Tyler Owens, Plano East — The aforementioned Brown isn’t the only prospect on commitment watch this weekend. Texas has solidified itself as the team to beat for Owens after extending an offer this summer. Owens wants to make a decision before the end of the month, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him shut things down if the Longhorns blow him away this weekend.

ATH Peyton Powell, Odessa Permian — Powell is committing before the end of the month, so it’s imperative for the Longhorns to make a lasting impression this weekend. After all, this will be Powell’s first visit to Texas of the cycle. Right now, Oklahoma is considered the heavy favorite in Powell’s recruitment. He is a versatile athlete that can play wide receiver, defensive back or even quarterback at the next level.

Commits

WR Jake Smith, Notre Dame Prep (AZ) — Smith is one of UT’s top overall commits. It’s imperative for the Longhorns to keep him in the fold, but they will have to fend off Alabama, Texas A&M and others.

TE Brayden Liebrock, Chandler (AZ) — Liebrock is making it back to campus for the first time since committing in the spring. He is completely solid to the Longhorns.

TE Jared Wiley, Temple — Wiley will be back on campus after checking out the Longhorns’ home opener last weekend. He is locked in and will enroll early.

OL Tyler Johnson, Conroe Oak Ridge — Johnson has an opportunity to be an early contributor in the trenches. He is solid and isn’t looking at other programs.

OL Javonne Shepherd, Houston North Forest — Shepherd is committed in principle. He still plans to officially visit Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M this fall. Needless to say, the Longhorns need to fight to keep him.

LB De’Gabriel Floyd, Westlake (Calif.) — Floyd has been the vocal leader of UT’s 2019 class and will spend most of his time on campus helping the Longhorns recruit.

LB Marcus Tillman Jr., Orlando Jones (Fla.) — Tillman committed to Texas this summer after earning an offer. His commitment to UT remains firm.

CB Kenyatta Watson II, Grayson (GA) — Another out-of-state commit, Watson is completely solid to Texas and will also have his recruiting hat on this weekend.

CB Marques Caldwell, Alvin — Caldwell flipped from Oregon to Texas in the offseason and has remained completely solid to the Longhorns.

ATH Jordan Whittington, Cuero — One of the state’s most versatile players, Whittington gave Texas an early commitment and has not wavered.

Spoiler

It's a big recruiting weekend for the University of Texas and the top prospect on campus will be Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei five-star Bru McCoy.

Ranked by the 247Sports Top247 Player Rankings as the No. 1 athlete in the country and No. 4 prospect overall, the 6-foot-2 1/2, 212-pound McCoy is a coveted receiver target for the Longhorns staff.

McCoy last visited in April and has kept Texas near the top of his list. USC is the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite, but Tom Herman and company have done all they can to lure the blue-chipper away from the Los Angeles area in favor of Austin.

"Texas's staff are amazing recruiters and have done a excellent job of communicating with Bru throughout the process," Horace McCoy," Bru's father told 247Sports on Thursday evening. "He feels very comfortable with wide receivers coach Drew Mehringer. They have a special relationship. He has done a lot of research prior to committing to the visit. The actual visit is the cherry on top. The questions have been answered and the research is done."

The Longhorns host the Trojans on the field in primetime.

"The game environment," the elder McCoy said of what they're looking forward to the most. "A 100,000-plus stadium packed to the rim is something that he has never experienced before."

Besides the schools mentioned, McCoy's final eight also includes Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma, Florida State, Washington and UCLA.

--

In other Texas related news, I flipped my 247Sports Crystal Ball in favor of the Longhorns for weekly official visitor Derrian Brown. I liked Auburn's chances early in the cycle but the Tigers have since moved on to other targets and Brown has fallen in love with Texas.

The nation's No. 1 running back Trey Sanders takes his official visit this weekend. Not mad at the Longhorns taking their swing but I think they have to crush this trip to have a chance.

Top247 receiver Marcus Washington also takes his official. This is one where I could definitely see the Longhorns move into pole position following the trip. Washington is fresh off an official to Nebraska and Missouri is the current 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite.

I'm encouraged by the fact McCoy is finally making an OV and that the family seems to have been patient and thoughtful in going through the recruiting process. I guess now it all comes down to delivering on our end. Here's hoping the game, the coaches, Bevo Blvd. and everything else about the weekend come together to seal the deal. If they don't, I assume it only boosts USC.

If we beat USC like a drum, Bru will commit to the good guys.

We could hang 70 on them and he'd still be a Trojan come signing day. Unless there is major upheaval at USC and his buddies, JT Daniels and ARSB, tell him not to come, he's going there.

This game will good "shoot your shot" moment for Marcus Washington though.
