I’m not gonna sweat it. If we win this year, I think pretty much everyone will be in play. If we disappoint I don’t see Herman hanging around past year three and we probably reboot the whole fucking thing. Again.

Casinos will let you self ban, to place yourself on a list for no gambling. Not sure how that works for a message board.

We all know recruiting is a wild undertaking with unforeseen twists and turns. We can still win for Wilson and Leal. Give it a few weeks before officially freaking out.

These are all good points and I agree but no one has told me how the fuck I can stop checking this thread every 5 minutes.

Is it not one already? A sick, twisted one perhaps, but a support group all the same.

Tom Loy: Elite defensive end NaNa Osafo-Mensah talks Notre Dame official visit

Fort Worth (Texas) Nolan Catholic four-star defensive end NaNa Osafo-Mensah isn’t just a want for Notre Dame, he’s a need. The 6-4, 227-pounder and his parents were in South Bend for his official visit this weekend and the trip couldn’t have gone better for the elite pass-rusher. Notre Dame laid out the red carpet and it looks like it made a big impact. “Honestly, I loved my trip,” said the nation’s No. 7 weak-side defensive end from the class of 2019. “It was honestly one of the best weekends I’ve ever experienced in my life, to be honest with you. I got all of my questions about Notre Dame answered. I had some stuff to find out about how the school operates, student life, and things like that, but I got all of my questions answered and I couldn’t feel better about Notre Dame right now.”

While on campus, Osafo-Mensah was hosted by safety Jordan Genmark Heath. To say the two hit if off would likely be an understatement. Between his time with “JGH” and Irish defensive lineman Khalid Kareem, he realized how well he fit in with a few Fighting Irish football players. “I had the opportunity to go to class with a defensive end, Khalid Kareem, which was pretty cool,” said Osafo-Mensah. “We developed a real good bond. He was telling me about Notre Dame and how much he likes it. He was looking out for me the whole time I was there. Then my actual host, Jordan Genmark Heath, he was awesome. I love that guy. He was helping me out with everything, always taking care of me. I loved being able to spend time with him. I asked about class and what things were like there. He was just telling me about everything and breaking it all down for me. He answered all of my questions."

“I actually got to go to a business law class, which was pretty cool,” added the No. 115 overall player in the country. “I actually got to meet with a professor there, his name was professor Stevens. He teaches some of the business management classes. He spent some time talking with me and he spent time with my family, which is a big thing for me. My parents are really big on academics. Them getting the opportunity to speak with a professor means a lot.”

During the visit, the group of recruits and their families headed out to head coach Brian Kelly’s lake house. It was an opportunity for the group to kick back, relax, and spend some time getting to know each other. It was also a chance for Kelly and Osafo-Mensah to further their conversations about what Notre Dame can do for his future, as well as what his abilities can do for Notre Dame.

“His message was really clear to me,” said Osafo-Mensah of Kelly. “When he invited me, my family and all the recruits to his lake house, he was showing that it’s more than just football over there. He talked to me about the Notre Dame family and the family bond where he can bring all of his players to his lake house to just enjoy themselves like they’re just his sons. That really meant a lot to me. Besides that, he was saying how we could help them win a National Championship with us playing on the defense. He also talked about how great of a coach, coach Elston is. He said that he can develop me as a great player, but also as a man too. Just his message overall is that Notre Dame isn’t just going to develop me as a football player, but it’s going to develop me as a man in life and get me a great degree from Notre Dame.”

Osafo-Mensah is looking for a school with a strong blend of academics and athletics, as well as a place he’ll truly enjoy being for the next few years. Following 48 hours in South Bend, he realized that Notre Dame checks off all of his boxes. “The thing I really liked about it was that even thought I’m not a player or a student, they cared about me like I was already a part of the football team and I had been there as long as they were,” said Osafo-Mensah, when asked about his time with the Notre Dame players during the visit. “I felt really good about it because they were looking out for me and all of my friends. They were always making sure that we were having fun and everything. The hospitality they showed me was amazing. It’s something I’ll never forget.”

Osafo-Mensah has one official visit left to take at Texas in early May and then he has a commitment date set for May 19. He will continue to weigh his options and closely consider both schools moving forward. That said, the top target was asked, “What if you told your parents you wanted to go to Notre Dame, how would they react?” It’s clear that everyone is sold on the Fighting Irish if that is what he wants.

“I think their reaction would be very supportive,” said Osafo-Mensah. “I know they really, really, really like Notre Dame a whole lot, honestly. So, if I was to say something like that, I think that they would understand if it’s something I wanted to do. Even if I went to Texas first and then said that, they would be supportive. I think they would be supportive of that, honestly, because even if it’s what I decided to do, my parents are just really loving and caring for me and want me to make the best decision for me and make sure that whatever decision I make will benefit me the most. They are a great support system for me. They really just care about my well-being and my happiness, so that’s a great thing about them.”

Notre Dame gave it it’s best shot to land its top target on the defensive side of the ball. We’ll see how things go moving forward, as the Irish continue to push for one of the most talented prospects in the country.

Strong got three years (which is basically the shortest amount of time that’s considered acceptable for a major college football program without a sandal) with less to show than Herman currently has at this moment and it still took losing to KANSAS to get him fired after year 3.  It would be highly improbable that Herman gets forced out before his 4th year.  But we can have that debate on another thread if needed.

yall need to calm down, signing day isn’t until December and we have a long way to go before anyone should be getting worried.

If Leal had committed, I doubt the desperate blowhards in "The Station" would be able to keep quiet about it.  As long as we're eventually getting Leal back on campus and we actually have a season of football to play out, I'm not going to angst over this one.

Wilkins.  This is probably not a good sign

It was pretty obvious yesterday that he was one of the silent commits that Riley was tweeting about

Any chance this is another aggy echo chamber moment? The only thing I saw to make me think otherwise was the tweet by one of the recruits a couple pages back. The rest has been 995 and cb bs.

Seen lots of edits for 2019 recruits, but don’t recall any for Leal. I guess the recruits have to “repost” them, so is he just not a social media guy?  Maybe just not that into Texas or Texas not that in to him??  According to the $9.95s, he was pretty much a Texas lock, so not sure what to believe anymore.

Wells on DeMarvin Leal:

Things tend to get crazy when it comes to the state’s best player, in any class.

Let’s start from the beginning. It wasn’t until mid-last season when Leal started opening up about schools he likes. For Leal, that was big. He’s a very shy, quiet type that still has no clue how good he is or will be. He’s also highly impressionable, which is exactly the type of player A&M is pouncing on.

Leal attended UT’s Junior Day weekend in late February and left comfortable and at ease with the Texas staff. Mom included.

After that, we still were hearing Leal was really open, and just starting the vetting process. He really liked Texas, he was curious about A&M, he respected Oklahoma State (his first offer), and wanted to see Alabama and Clemson at some point.

But the reality was Leal wasn’t likely moving very far from his family. His mom and little brother are everything to him.

Two weeks ago was when we started hearing Texas was separating from the pack. When he snuck onto campus for practice that Saturday, the Horns were trending well. Real well. Herman and his staff were building a great relationship with Leal, most notably his mother. The mom really likes Austin. The little brother really loves the Horns. It was trending well.

Then his visit to College Station happened. Jimbo Fisher and Terry Price pushed all the right buttons. Remember, this is an impressionable kid that can get caught up in the moment. It happens in every cycle.

Leal left CS without a public commitment. If I’m Jimbo, there’s no way I’d allowed that, but when you’re the state’s most-coveted prospect, you’re allowed certain privileges.

So, what now? A&M currently has the advantage with Leal. But I’m hearing Texas leads with momma. She was in constant contact with the UT staff after it was leaked he might’ve pledged to the Aggies late Saturday night.

Leal still wants to take visits. His mom wants him to take visits. He’s seen two campuses. When you’re a 5-star, don’t settle so soon. I don’t think this recruitment is close to over.

The key will be the next few weeks. If Leal goes public, if Texas gets him back on campus soon, and if Herman and company continue to work Leal and his mom.

Ideally Leal would visit for the spring game, but that’s not a definite. The only definite is that this recruitment just started.

Feels a bit like a mod trying to placate his enraged userbase, but I think he's right in that the relationship with the mom is key, and that Texas is still playing the long game.

In the same weekend, all the recruits who were leaning our way are suddenly trending elsewhere. It's like some of y'all don't know how to Mensa.

Are you trying to say that Herman has orchestrated a faux "bad" weekend, so that next weekend when everyone is "back" trending our way, Herman can parlay it into some kind of huge momentum "gain" leading into the summer?

Good morning, i'm here for the echo chamber

As long as he is taking visits,  we are still in it.

It wouldn't be the surl without a mid-April meltdown about a silent commit who wants to take more visits.

The last time someone suggested changing a recruiting thread title, it went very well for them (see Slocum, RC).

.....and he was never heard from again.

While I'm not worried this far out, I do find the perceived monumental change in recruits decisions and opinions after one weekend very peculiar. I truly wonder what Aggy and OU coaches are telling these kids because this is something I don't think I've ever encountered with so many recruits seemingly flipping opinions all in one shot.

Time to counter-punch.

It means after our last recruiting haul, and the percieved notion we are on the upswing, that other schools are scared of what may be about to happen here and they're doubling down on the negative recruiting. It would probably be to a worse degree than ever before this cycle because aggy and sooner cant afford to have us be a contender again. So...hence the big shifts occuring on OVs

Remember when the very early perception was that we were falling behind, but it was mainly just because no one had visited us yet? I think that's a little bit of what's going on, but in reverse. OU, aggy, tOSU, etc coaches aren't morons, I'm sure they can put together a pretty nice OV weekend. Lots of these guys were "trending Texas" because we'd had them in to visit more recently. We'll get our shot this weekend and then the narrative will swing again. Leal is the only one that's really confusing to me, we've been building a relationship with him for ages.

I updated the visit tracker with latest news on all the spring game visitors: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1i5Kk5NNdAVIc_sGJSDovph0VSmwrJuCcFufuvCDnJ5g/edit#gid=0

2-3 commits wouldn't shock me on Saturday. Have we seen a visitor list yet?
