He apparently draws lines on the strippers.

He may, but from what I read somewhere, he excludes their assholes. He’s more of a breast man.

We didn’t start paying recruits when the SWC was the Wild West. It’s also not a subject that’s solely up to Herman.

There’s a difference between talking to trainers, inviting them to campus, kissing their ass and outright paying them to bring recruits to campus/sign.

Well, I find that immensely relieving. After Mack, I don't think I could stomach another ass-licker as head football coach at the University of Texas.

And you know what happened next? Not just losing players and games, but Royal said he quit mostly because of the cheating.

Perhaps he was referring to the redcoats.

In the purest, technical sense, the school isn't involved at all. It's a transaction between a booster and a "trainer" or "uncle" or whomever, and the player's family. The coaches tend to get involved in order to help target the cash flows more effectively? Is there more to it than that? I didn't completely understand what Freeze was doing, except that there was no reason he should have been in contact directly himself, other than acquiring some unauthorized french benefits.

French benefits are nowhere near as good as German or Italian benefits.

Freeze was an idiot. Used his own university-issued phone to make calls to escort services for recruits on visits. I mean come on.

Probably true.

Freeze is an absolute moron.

People that don’t think we play the game when the board is set up to our liking live in a fantasy world.

We just don’t participate in some really gross stuff and it costs us recruits. I’m good with it but sometimes it hurts.

Curious what were the red flags on herman before being hired? Gambler that liked to snort coke off of strippers?

Everybody is paying for players so we should —>

Technically this is against the rules so we’ll do it privately and indirectly —>

We will have to lie about what we are doing on any official or public disclosures —>

No thanks. I like watching guys who attend my alma mater win when they play certain games, but not enough that I can advocate lying, fraud, and surrendering to the travelers of the low road.

We don’t have to kill ourselves self-scouting for minor peccadilloes. But we should set a standard and expectation of integrity. If the rules of the game leave it ripe for abuse, advocate for change, live with the fact that aggy and his ilk lie and cheat, and/or start a new game (like when we founded the SWC). If I’m going to sacrifice principle to cheer for a winner, it would be simpler and faster just to cheer for Bama instead of TEXAS.

Don't believe the Zach Smith accusations. Smith has thrown everything at Herman once he found out Tom and Michelle paid for his ex's attorney.  With how much Smith hates Herman if Smith could prove any of his accusations he would have by now.

So did Bowden and he ran as dirty a program as there ever was.  Not illegal, but I remember Janikowski had to be pulled out of Lafittes at 4am the night before the Sugar Bowl and the dirty Pol kicked a 60 yarder.  No way Bowden was suspending him.

Don't forget Warrick and a certain incident at Dillard's: https://www.nytimes.com/1999/10/08/sports/college-football-florida-state-s-warrick-is-suspended-after-an-arrest.html

I was worried he could drop something right before NSD, but now that's passed I think he just doesn't have anything.

Not sure what else there is left in the arsenal once you talk about coke, strippers and massage parlors. Unless Herman literally was killing people I think Smith shot his wad there. Metaphorically speaking of course.

I figured that what he had might be at least as much trouble for Ohio State as for Herman so it was “dealt with”

Maybe he’s a teacher’s assistant for Corch’s leadership class.

You’d think a trainer who claims repeatedly that he is only in this to help Texas athletes go to college would know who Baylor’s AD was.

Don't worry. FWK's sycophant-in-chief is on the scene with plenty of faux outrage.

Jackson is the “Associate AD for Compliance” so he’s not exactly wrong, and the full title is pretty wordy for a tweet.

That’s what I never understood, Texas makes so much money but refuses to outbid like sanders.

That side side of recruiting does not happen the way you think it does.  Bama keeos getting #1 classes and I can guarantee the school is not writing checks to recruits.

Now aggy would be dumb and desperate enough to do something like that, but Baggins has a lot of experience and he has people like Meemaw who organize boosters.

You are right. Alabama doesn't write checks. It leaves a paper trail.

I think simplism starts with the facile cynicism that college football is just another business thus pragmatism should outweigh delusions of integrity. I think the whole thing is founded in the obsession in the fan base about winning a national championship that seems to be like a heroin addiction.

I don't want Texas sucking dicks beside a dumpster to attain that wonderful high.

The response may be that we're already cutting a few corners in the gray areas. My answer remains the same.

I'd be ok with you blowing a few hundred hobos if it meant national championships.

Spare me the high road nonsense. The NCAA has defacto condoned payments to player’s families, their relatives and their trainers. We are like the car in the right lane going the exact speed limit while everyone else is going with the flow of traffic. We claim everyone else is dirty for payments but if it has become legalized, is it dirty?

If the police office not only waves you by but gives you a trophy if you go 75 in a 65 are you even breaking the law anymore?

After it became public that Auburn paid 6 figures for Cam Newton and the NCAA acknowledged it, all bets should have been off. It’s legal to pay players families now. If we are not giving money to FWK and we lose Shepherd it’s only our fault. Not anyone else’s.

This is where I am.  If building a consistent championship roster requires 4 and 5 figure payments, everyone who wants to compete for championships is doing it, and there are no/minimal consequences for doing it...is it really cheating?

If Texas played the game as it has evolved, we'd be supplant Alabama as the premier football program in the country.
