The content is designed to create intrigue (ahem, manufacture drama), not to accurately chronicle anything. It’s become a big business because we like the drama. January 6, 20196 yr Greg Biggins: Top 10 Performers from Under Armour All-American Game The Under Armour All-American Game was a great opportunity to see some of the nation’s best go at it on the national stage. Following a week of practice as well as last night’s game, here’s our look at the 10 best overall performers of the week. First off, it’s a must to understand, this is a list of who we thought looked the best during the game and the week of practice, this is not a list of who we feel are the best prospects. This list is based solely on performance and has nothing to do with a players rating or how he projects in college. In compiling this list, we valued a players overall body of work. So if a player had a great week of practice but maybe didn’t have a lot of opportunities in the game, he could still make the list. Also just because a player may have had a great game, if he didn’t perform well during the week of practice, he likely would not have made the cut here. So without further adieu, here’s our look at the top 10 performers from the event. Alpha Dog- Humble (Texas) Atascocita offensive lineman Kenyon Green Kenyon Green was tremendous all week and was dominant in the UA game. We really can’t say enough about him, he can run block and pass protect equally well, is a plus athlete, very strong, plays with a mean streak and always competes at a high level. He was very good at The Opening Finals over the summer and showed once again he can shine on a national stage. Texas A&M is getting a player we think could come in and compete for playing time early in his career. 2. WR, Theo Wease, Allen (Texas) Theo Wease was the most consistent receiver all week and then had a very strong game. The only times we saw any defensive back able to cover him was when he was hobbled and limping around a bit. Otherwise, he was the best route runner in the camp and probably got more separation than any other receiver. The Oklahoma signee had one touchdown reception in the game and should have had another on a play the referees incorrectly rules him out of bounds. He should catch a ton of balls for the Sooners in the next few years. 3. OL, Evan Neal, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy Evan Neal was beat for a sack in the game but was otherwise very good and had a great week of practice. He’s just so hard to get around because of of size and how well he can move. Neal worked out at both guard and tackle but we think he’s a natural tackle at the next level and could end up on either side depending on the need and where his body is at in a few years. As good as he is now, he can still lean out some and improve his overall athleticism, which would make the Alabama signee even scarier. 4. DL, Kayvon Thibodeux, Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian Kayvon Thibodeaux was our top player the first workout of the week. He was just solid the next two days and actually struggled a bit on the final day of practice but was very good in the game and flashed his enormous talent. His seven tackles were 3rd most in the game and he had multiple hurries as well. When his motor is going, there aren't many players who can impact a game quite like Thibodeuax and the Oregon signee should compete for the starting job the second he arrives on campus. 5. WR, George Pickens, Hoover (Ala.) We talked to a few of the defensive backs following the game and several said George Pickens was the toughest cover for them during the week. He had four catches for 55 yards in the game, which followed up a very good week of practice as well. He’s a big, physical receiver with a strong body and uses his size and strength to create separation. He’s not a burner but runs well enough and can make plays down the field. Pickens is an Auburn commit but will sign in February. 6. QB, Jayden Daniels, San Bernardino (Calif.) Jayden Daniels was our No. 2 quarterback all week during practice and looked very good and really shined during the game. He was clearly the top signal caller Thursday night and showed off why he’s the nation’s top dual-threat quarterback. He finished 9-13 for 101 yards and two touchdowns and added 21 yards on the ground. Daniels can stress a defense in so many ways, never looks rattled and has the touch and accuracy to make every throw on the field. He’ll enroll at Arizona State on Monday. 7. RB, Jerrion Ealy, Flowood (Miss.) Jackson Prep We said during the week it was tough for the running backs to really show what they could do in this setting. During practice, the running backs and linebackers rarely went live and were only in full pads once. Still Jerrion Ealy flashed a few times and then had a great showing Thursday night. He had a game high 119 yards, which was a new record and scored two touchdowns as well. We really like the way the Ole Miss signee runs the football. He’s decisive, quick and strong and is a great looking prospect. 8. DB, Kenyatta Watson, Loganville (Ga.) Grayson Kenyatta Watson was outstanding all week and definitely looks like one of the more under-rated defensive backs in the country. When you look at his length, athleticism, toughness, motor and skill set, he checks off every box you could want in a next level corner. He had arguably the best performance by any defensive back this week during Tuesday’s workout and just oozes upside and potential. Watson is headed to Texas and should bolster an already strong secondary. 9. DL, Zacch Pickens, Anderson (S.C.) TL Hanna Zacch Pickens got progressively better all week and was one of the most dominant defensive players at the event by the end of the week. We love his positional versatility and feel he can play multiple spots on the defensive line. He's a big, strong kid who can beat an opposing lineman with power or quickness. He was very tough to contain in the game Thursday night and finished up with three tackles, a sack and a hurry. He was a huge pickup for South Carolina and he should definitely be able to compete for playing time as soon as this coming fall. 10. WR, Marcus Washington, St. Louis (Mo.) Trinity Catholic Marcus Washington was one of the MVPs of the game Thursday night after catching seven passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Washington had a good week of practice as well showing some of the strongest hands in the event. At 6-2, 195 pounds, Washington is a physical receiver who can bully smaller corners. He has excellent body control, catches the ball well through contact and has a natural feel for how to get open and get separation. The Texas signee should make a lot of plays for the Longhorn program in the coming years. Honorable Mention: Others who just missed the cut *Jameson Williams, WR, Saint Louis (Mo.) Cardinal Ritter Prep- Williams has elite level speed and is a true home run threat from anywhere on the field. *Devontae Dobbs, OL, Belleville (Mich.)- Versatile lineman who can overwhelm opposing DLs at the point of attack. *Mykael Wright, DB, Antelope Valley (Calif.)- Has all the tools to be a true shutdown corner at the next level. *Lewis Cine, DB, Cedar Hill (Texas) Trinity Christian- Rangy safety who is strong in coverage and always around the ball. *Jordan Battle, DB, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas- Versatile safety who can run, hit and cover. * Julian Barnett, DB, Belleville (Mich.)- Barnett was one of the top 3-4 defensive backs every day in practice and showed lockdown cover skills. *Bo Nix, QB, Pinson Valley (Ala.)- Top quarterback in practice each day, poised, polished and mature beyond his years. *Zeke Correll, OL, Cincinnati (Ohio) Anderson- Versatile interior lineman who could excel at guard or center. *Jowon Briggs, DL, Cincinnati (Ohio) Walnut Hills- Physical tackle with a great first step.

I’ll stick with the premise that he’s clueless, he’s not an exciting guy for recruits to get behind, and you’ll be waxing Pollyanna to us about the new guy, same as the old guy by this time next year.

January 6, 20196 yr We are close to having a linebacker core that has to compete against one another for pt because there are more competent linebackers than spots. We may have never had that luxury here at Texas in my lifetime. Henry is absolutely a take.

January 6, 20196 yr Our players may not like our coach, but at least they win games for him.Same shit as with CS. Players loved him because he was more like a friend/father than a D1 coach who held them accountable. 100% understandable, and there’s always going to be coaches and programs like that. Not at all surprised to hear we have guys who hate Herman, but I doubt any of our starters/soon-to-be-starters share those thoughts because they’ve worked their asses off for their spot. Very likely there’s still a lot of underserved entitlement on the depth chart, and that takes years to overcome for a rising team. Lot of really good players joined when we were struggling, but now they’re unexpectedly (at least in their minds) at risk of getting recruited over. Shit happens, and maybe those feelings had an impact on Bru. Still think it’s an amazing class that filled most of our biggest needs.
