January 19Jan 19 Wife and I went to Central Market and the Montrose HEB before the church crowds let out. Both were pretty easy. By the time we were leaving HEB at 12:25 people were losing their shit in the parking lot. Glad we got that out of the way.

Surprisingly she made it there and back in 45 minutes, and got in some shopping besides Rx pickup. Store wasn't slammed at all.

January 20Jan 20 Central Market on Lamar is a constant shit show after 10am on any day now. Parking lot is just a revolving crusade of people hoping against hope to find a spot. It wasn’t like this 3 months ago. I don’t know what happened, but I refuse to try now.

January 20Jan 20 The Hancock HEB is my "home" store and its already a shitshow these days with all the construction and constantly migrating inventory. This was me entering the parking lot yesterday early afternoon The crazed look of the hordes streaming to the entrance caused me to nope the fuck out of there before I ever parked, and I headed over to the far west HEB where I could shop in a civilized manner. Burnet or Mueller didnt even get a consideration.

January 23Jan 23 Recently noticed mi tienda also has ready to cook tortillas in the fridge section, next to the biscuits and such. Heb tortillas on a scale of 1-10 is probably 7 or 8, way better than the shit that sits on the shelf, but not as good as some restaurants or the abuela who just loves to cook.

These have been out for several years now, depending on the store. They started out with just flour tortillas of a couple of different sizes, and they're terrific. They've branched out to corn tortillas, and I find them very off-putting. Odd textures.

January 23Jan 23 They stole jalapenos, garlic, salt, and oil. Yeah, that's some proprietary shit there.

January 24Jan 24 Taqueria Arandas and a thousand taco trucks in Houston were doing jalapeno emulsion sauce for decades before Taco Deli. That being said, their version is pretty decent. That also being said, a manager recently told me the company that makes the retail version doesn't exactly follow their recipes all the time so it is hit or miss and sometimes not available. If you really want it, you're better off buying it from Taco Deli if you there is one near you.

January 24Jan 24 Our HEB was clearing out the TacoDeli Salsa Verde a couple months ago at half price and there was a reason for that: it's average at best.
January 24Jan 24 It's a ridiculously easy salsa to make. Someone posted a good knockoff recipe here at some point. I'll see if I can find it.

It's beyond easy and fucking deeeeeeelicious. I don't put the cilantro in mine, despite loving cilantro, as I've found that it makes the sauce go bad faster.
