February 12Feb 12 Had some folks over last week for brunch and had the El Gallo red sauce (not the habanero) and the Yellow Bird habanero sauce for breakfast tacos. Using the two together with the eggs, potatoes, sausage, and bacon on hot flour/corn tortillas was absolute dynamite. as always.

February 13Feb 13 The Green Habanero El Yucateco sauce is a staple in our place. So good. We order the bigger bottles off amazon.

(other than the fact that breakfast tacos without potatoes suck ass) Ive settled on eggs, potatoes, chorizo, cheese....add pico/cheese/hot sauce + avacado if I have one laying around. But the diced potatoes are mandatory. Hot sauce is usually this stuff, which is about 40% cheaper at HEB than it is on the O brothers website.....good shit. Edited February 13Feb 13 by Blotto

Yeah, its shit, but as previous posted noted, it seems to be a 3rd party issue with whomever is mass producing it. Every batch is different it seems.

Every batch is different it seems. up until a few months ago the shit at whole foods was identical to restaurant doña; I literally could not tell the difference, at all. then the packaging changed and the recipe changed and everything has gone to shit. I’m not in texas so whole foods is my only doña dealer. I want to email tacodeli corporate and complain.

March 6Mar 6 When the HEB bakery tortillas first came I thought they were great. Could not get enough. It seems that lately they just do not seem to have any flavor or taste. Anyone notice this?

I’ve reverted to the refrigerated ready to cook tortillas. Just as good, cheaper and better shelf life. You have to cook the bakery tortillas anyway. Edited March 6Mar 6 by TonyTexas

March 17Mar 17 Slight mystery at HEB this morning. Just saw this new sign over near where they sell pre-made salads and soups. Looked around a bit and didn't actually see any of these sandwiches anywhere. Checked HEB website and not finding anything that matches. There's an HEB across the street from my office so this would certainly be a welcome development for weekday lunches. Edited March 17Mar 17 by Storm the Field

But $10 for a grocery store sammy?

March 19Mar 19 I'm going to try to get some established along my back fence this spring. They come up down by the creek where I usually mow over them.

Their regular ol' sliced bread sandwiches are typically $5-7 and nothing to write home about. If they can make a legit Italian sub or Cuban sandwich on good bread for $9.50, I'll buy occasionally.
March 19Mar 19 Right, where are you going for a quick sandwich that is quality for less than $10 these days? And I said quality, so don’t @ me with Subway Plus you’re already in the pre-made section, so you can grab a better side than just a bag of chips. Such as their kale salads or potato salad or whatever Edited March 19Mar 19 by Js1
March 19Mar 19 And, no tip. But based on my previous experience with their sammiches, I'm not expecting much. Antone's Subs suck ass, too.

March 19Mar 19 Saw a display with model sandwiches in it on Sunday evening, didn't investigate further. When HEB had a prepared deli case (before the meal simple takeover) the Bunker Hill one sold jamon serrano sandwiches for $4. Rip.
March 19Mar 19 I used to shop at the Far West HEB when I lived in Northwest Hills, and the kosher deli there made kick-ass sandwiches. The egg salad slapped.
