I used to shop at the Far West HEB when I lived in Northwest Hills, and the kosher deli there made kick-ass sandwiches. The egg salad slapped.

Yeah, but it's limited, for obvious reasons.  (No cheeseburgers, pork, etc.)

Today I don’t care if my HEB is open, short staffed, or if I can’t buy shit  they make because it’s out of stock.   They always come through when Texans are in need.

Not a problem, just fucking weird.

I use my toaster as much as directly on the fire on my gas stove. Both work well, less chance of burning in the toaster when putting other ingredients together at the same time. Way more than 8-10 seconds though. Usually 20-30 seconds and then I pull it out and flip it over so both ends get high heat (they stick out the top an inch or two). As the first side starts to slide down it’s ready to flip, then the other side goes until it starts to puff up and then it comes out.

OK, the toaster method is regarded beyond words.  As pictured above, you fine folks need to invest in a comal.

Well now, you have to give credit for being authentically surly

Next you're going to tell me that the toaster isnt the best option to dry my socks right out of the laundry.

No, but it makes a great bath toy, especially if it’s plugged in.

I didn't realize it was a small chain.  Apparently they sold (sell?) them at Antone's Night Club, too.

I thought he was the brother that was kicked out of the Sammich/Meats business.  The one in Houston was pretty good back in the day.  I didn't know they still sold them anywhere.

Not being able to use any tool at your disposal to get the job done is regarded. Nobody needs a comal to reheat tortillas they bought at the store, you fucking hipster.

I guess no one needs to toast beard either, but it’s good

*upon reread, fuck no you don’t need a comal. Built in stove top griddle better anyway

I told my Mexican co-workers about the toaster.

I think they are still laughing.

The toaster thing is a poor attempt at trolling, right?

I think the toaster thing is what Torchy's does.

What's the next best thing to Momofuku Chili Crunch?  $13 for a 5oz is ridiculous and I'm not trying to give David Chang any more money.

This is what I'm currently using, but it's not the same.

I think when a comal isn't available the go-to Mexican move is just throw that shit right on the burner.

It ain’t HEB, and it’s not exactly the same….but I actually may like it better:

Made a simple stir fry the other night, sprinkled that liberally on top, and it was amazing.

You know how I know you've never had chili crisp?

I know what chili crisp is but it serves basically the same purpose as that garlic-chili sauce. Was just mentioning an alternative.

Not remotely the same purpose or in any way an alternative, unless you're looking for something completely different.

David Chang is going to sue you for using his trademarked term "chili crisp".

These chili crisps are my favorites from HEB, not too spicy but really good flavor.  They do have an Extra spicy one but I haven’t tried it yet.

Yeah....and they're utterly mid.  The ones at Asahi imports are cheaper, and damned good.

Sorry, these are a "miss" for HEB.

I will admit, though, that the sushi counter in the Rundberg HEB is hilarious. The Asians who work it have a "Why are we here?" look on their faces.

The spicy guacamole/al pastor rolls are pretty good though.

I know this sounds unbelievable but Costco now has sushi and it's good.  They have nigiri, sashimi and poke.  The sashimi isn't cheap.  I think it was 4 pieces of salmon, 4 pieces of Tuna and 4 pieces of yellowtail for $37.

I've had their poke, it's damned good.  We got a sushi tray from a Costco in SOCAL a few years ago on a family vacation, and it was at least as good as the HEB sushi, probably better (I dunno, I ate it on the deck while drinking beer and watching the surf, I wasn't being picky).

I need to check that out!

Bought the 1lb of Poke expecting my teenage son to be home to split.  Got home and wife reminded me he was in Kingsland for the weekend.  Wife and I cashed a pound of tuna Poke. It was well worth $17.

I like the rosemary chicken kabobs they have in the meat market, the southwest and mushroom marinated kabobs and just the marinated breast are also good.

I have never tried their kabobs before.

Will check them out.

Has anyone tried the cornbread being sold in the bakery section?

Its okay for dipping in chili or stew, but something is off with their recipe, the cornbread crumbles too easily

Did these two for dinner tonight and it was great. There was a coupon for each.

Added a little seasoning to each - did the tenderloin for 25 mins @375 then threw the sides in and did them together for another 25.

Only issue is the potatoes optimally need more time than the green beans but it was fine.

Perfect meal for 2, or 1 if you're starving (saved a little for lunch tomorrow.

They changed their jalapeno cornbread recipe and it's shit compared to what it was.

As you said it's great for serving some chili on top of it or beans(obviously not chili with beans)

I haven’t tried it but if we did that might be the only thing we would eat along with beans over it.

Those premade oven meals are great.

We have tried several different ones and they are all good.

It cracks me up how many HEB products are sold on Amazon and Ebay.

The only thing I buy so far are the refried charro beans ($20 for 6 cans) from some dude in Floresville.
