While it would be great if it comes true, he's got a long road ahead of him. First he has to get well again, then he has to finish high school. Catching up with his classwork and finishing school will be a major accomplishment. Hopefully, if he can walk, they will let him walk with his graduating class whether he's finished his school work or not. That's a once-in-a-lifetime thing, so it would suck if he couldn't go through the ceremony if he hasn't completed his work yet. This has been a complete shock, followed by uncertainty, and now he appears to be making an amazing recovery. Football may or may not happen, but he's already accomplished a lot and it will be simply amazing if he can become a regular college student and get a college degree.
February 20, 20196 yr ^ I missed three weeks of school my sophomore year and it was tough to catch up. I can’t imagine it occurring my senior year and not even comparable to the time he’ll be missing. Edited February 20, 20196 yr by Casual Encounter
February 22, 20196 yr Not sure how I would feel about him playing again, considering that currently it sounds like it would be extremely risky. I don’t wanna see the kid die on the field.
February 22, 20196 yr Soooo, prayer up that his doctors straight up tell them it’s safe to continue pursuing his football career.

February 22, 20196 yr surly health specialists: we speculate so you don’t have to. if he can play again he will. if he can’t, he won’t. “oh golly gee I really don’t think he should do anything without getting three opinions” ... “play again? I’m not I’m sure I’m ok with that” great work all around.
February 22, 20196 yr As long as the cause is unknown (and it is still unknown, yes?) I don't see any quacks going out on the limb of telling him it's okay to play. Were I that sort of quack, I sure as hell wouldn't want to tell him he's good to go... YMMV
February 23, 20196 yr Regardless of whether he plays again or not, the kid has to have hope that he plays again. Hope can be a powerful healer. Edited February 23, 20196 yr by Here’s the deal
February 23, 20196 yr This kid wants to be a Longhorn, and that's good enough for me. I don't care if he ever suits up, I'm pulling for him. Get well, Derrian.

Then it was raised to $80k, but these campaigns are all about momentum - which had unfortunately passed. If the original goal had been $80k, I'm sure it would have been met almost as quickly.
March 9, 20196 yr Can we Derrian's mom/parents a job in Austin without the NCAA/Aggy losing their minds? I'm sure after all this, his family will want to be close. If Derrian plays a down at Texas, it's going to be very dusty in DKR. I know I'll be chopping onions. Edited March 9, 20196 yr by billfromlaketravis

The NCAA does not have any sway over where his parents work. If they move to Austin Texas to help with Derrian's rehab, then more power to them. Fuck aggy. Also, it would look very bad for aggy to interfere with this young man's recovery over their small minded rivalry issue. Edited March 9, 20196 yr by lemonandaturd
