Early one morning the sun was shining/I was lying in bed/wonderin' if she'd changed at all/if her hair was still red

Three night ago I was at a disco

You suck my blood like a leech

This is the story of a mixed-up teen

If the wife and I are fussin, brother that's our right

There are some things you can't cover up with lipstick and powder

No one knows what it's like

Je suis un rock star

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine , I keep my eyes wide open all the time

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.

Make me an angel that flies from Montgom'ry , make me a poster of an old rodeo

Eighteen-hundred miles from this old nightclub, a girl is turning 22 today

Now blue ain't the world for the way that I feel, and the storm's brewing in this heart of mine

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup, they slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe

Something in the way she moves attracts me like no other lover

I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I'll make you so sure about it

"Turn down the lights, turn down the bed, turn down these voices inside my head."

"Yesterday, all my troubles seem so far away"

It ain't the first line but it is my favorite

The cuckoo clock has died of shock and the windows feel no pain/pane

The air  was as still as the throttle on a funeral train.

Finished with my woman cause she couldn't help me with my mind

People think I'm insane because I am frowning all the time

All day long I think of things but nothing seems to satisfy

Think I'll lose my mind if I don't find something to pacify

I woke up in a Soho doorway
A policeman knew my name
He said you can go sleep at home tonight
If you can get up and walk away
I staggered back to the underground
And the breeze blew back my hair
I remember throwin' punches around
And preachin' from my chair

That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane and Lenny Bruce is not afraid

Bobby's driving through the city tonight
Through the lights in a hot new rent-a-car
He joins the lover in his heavy machine
It's a scene down on Sunset Boulevard

She cuts you once, she cuts you twice
But still you believe
The wound is so fresh you can taste the blood
BUt you don't have strength to leave
You've been bought, you've been sold
You've been locked outside the door
But you stand there pleadin',
With your insides bleedin',
'Cause you deep down want some more

Don't get excited
Don't say a word
Nobody noticed
Nothing was heard
It was committed discreetly
It was handled so neatly
And it shouldn't surprise you at all
You know

I come from down in the valley
Where mister when you're young
They bring you up to do like your daddy done

It was an early morning yesterday, I was up before the dawn
And I really have enjoyed my stay but I must be moving on
Like a king without a castle, like a queen without a throne
I'm an early morning lover and I must be moving on

I knew a girl named Nikki I guess you could say she was a sex fiend / I met her in a hotel lobby masturbating with a magazine

I am he as you are he as you are me / And we are all together

You've painted up your lips and rolled and curled your tinted hair / Ruby are you contemplating going out somewhere

I know its not an opening line, but is there a more powerful stanza than:

Momma told me always be a good boy don't ever play with guns, but I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die .

When I hear that whistle blowing...

I hang my head and cry.

It's knowing that your door is always open / And your path is free to walk / That makes me tend to leave my sleeping bag / Rolled up and stashed behind your couch

Please come to Boston for the springtime / Staying here with some friends and they've got lots of room / You can sell your paintings on the sidewalk / By a cafe where I hope to be working soon / Please come to Boston, she said no / Will you come home to me?

Welcome to your life
There’s no turning back.

Fuck yeah.

I've got a 69 Chevy with a 396/Fuelie heads and a Hurst on the floor/she's waiting tonight down in the parking lot/ outside the 7-eleven store

Well, I wish I had my picture on the Rolling Stone today.  I wish that the Enquirer spread a rumor that I was gay.

Low down leaving sun.

Done did everything that needs done.

Woe is me.

Why can’t I see

I’d best be leaving well enough alone

In a place you only dream of
Where your soul is always free
Silver stages, golden curtains
Filled my head, plain as can be
As a rainbow grew around the sun
All my stars of love who died
Came from somewhere beyond the scene you see
These lovely people played just for me

Now if I let you see this place
Where stories all ring true
Will you let me past your face
To see what's really you
It's not for me I ask these questions
As though I were a king
For you have to love, believe and feel
Before the burst of tambourines take you there

Green grass and high tides forever
Castles of stone souls and glory
Lost faces say we adore you
As kings and queens bow and play for you

I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand
Walking through the streets of SoHo in the rain
He was looking for a place called Lee Ho Fook's
Gonna get a big dish of beef chow mein

Well, I loved a girl
She lived out in Pecos, and pretty as she could be
And I worked the rigs on out in Odessa
To give her whatever she needs

Out in the west Texas town of El Paso

I fell in love with a Mexican girl......

On a long lonesome highway east of Omaha

Close your eyes and see the dinner scene in Beetleguese...

Day-o, day-o
Daylight come and me wan' go home
Day, me say day, me say day, me say day
Me say day, me say day-o
Daylight come and me wan' go home

I was born in a cross-fire hurricane...

What a drag it is getting old..

First thing I thought of was -

How young are you, how old am I?  Let's count the rings around my eyes.

There was a great spot on Bullseye where Craig Finn from The Hold Steady talks about that as one of his favorite songs, and his first experience with it.  I bought that album at a record store in Baltimore while I was on tour with my band and trying to work my way through 80s alternative rock bands (while reading Our Band Could Be Your Life).  I had gotten to the Replacements chapter.  Popped it in on the way to... wherever was next and it was just about right.

Another good one that's not all time best, but grabbed me and perfect for the moment I was in - 2 months sober and I heard -

I've seen Jesus play with flames in a lake of fire I was standing in

Turn off your mind, relax, and float downstream.

It is not dying. It is not dying

Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void.

It is shining. It is shining.

Dittos to what Scraps said about already being posted, but haven't seen these:

Deep down in Louisiana, close to New Orleans, way back up in the woods among the evergreens

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waitin for a train, feelin near as faded as my jeans

Amarillo by morning, up from San Antone, everything that I've got is just what I've got on

All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey

I knew a man, Bojangles and he'd dance for you

Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world

Well lookin back when I met you, we were shiny, we were brand new
A couple kids who'd never been to town

A threadbare alibi.....a lifetime full of promise
Fell from my Mary's eyes as she saw the screen door swing
The baby never woke......he lay cradled in her trembling
He lay safe and never knowing what my leavin would bring

An empty glass / That last cigarette /  It's closing time / And I'm drunk again.

In the corner / of my eye / I saw you at Rudy's / You were very high

The bars are all closed / it's for in the morning / must have shut 'em all down / by the shape that I'm in

Lido missed the boat that day he left the shack / But that was all he missed / And he ain't comin' back

Ms. Cristina drives a nine four four  / Satisfaction oozes from her pores / She keeps rings on her fingers
Marble on her floor / Cocaine on her dresser / Bars on her doors / She keeps her back against the wall / She keeps her back against the wall

She's got a roof that don't leak / When the rain's pouring down / She's got a place I can sleep / Where I'm safe and sound

Oh such an album as Aja ...........  top 10 all time for me.

Early one mornin' while makin' the rounds
I took a shot of cocaine and I shot my woman down
I went right home and I went to bed
I stuck that lovin' .44 beneath my head

In the time of chimpanzees I was a monkey. (personal all time favorite opening line)

When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide
Where I stop and I turn and I go for a ride
Till I get to the bottom and I see you again

Well you can tell by the way I use my walk I'm a woman's man, no time to talk

Bass, how low can you go

And now, the end is here and so I face the final curtain

welcome to the land where it just don't stop, trunks pop, tops drop, and the front end hop
