Damn... can’t say I’m surprised, though.

Maybe he throws his hat into the managerial search ring?

Mitchy 2-bags is back on a 1-year deal.

I hate the feeling in my gut that we lose Mookie tonight.

It's inevitable that we lose him at this point.  The bad feeling in my gut is that we lose him without actually getting something good in return.  Probably because we insist on throwing in Price to just shed salary.

Saw a report we are talking to Dodgers and might keep price.

Am I reading Mookie for Aaron Judge and someone else?

edit, maybe not.

Passan is known to throw out stupid shit like that.

Actually, the real Passan is one of the best in the business. The Judge bullshit was a fake Passan account that thinks he’s funny.

Notice the 7 instead of a check mark.

Jeff is one of the best, but he will have fun with his job. Hell more people should.

I follow him and its odd that it came up.

Missed the "7". Thanks for clarifying.

Fuuuuuucccckkkkk... I knew it was coming, still sucks.

After months of speculation, Mookie Betts is heading west.

The Red Sox have traded the star outfielder, as well as lefty starter David Price, to the Dodgers according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Neither team has confirmed the news.

Sounds like Verdugo is coming to Boston.  That's a good start but let's hope the other guys are good prospects too.

Yeah I just hate the idea we need to go that route. Seeing there is a third team involved?

Is this rebuilding?

Fucking sucks, but Mookie was walking regardless. Shame on the ownership for not locking him up earlier when they had the chance.

Verdugo should be solid, and the arm they got from the Twins sounds promising:

Brusdar Graterol, 21, is the hardest-throwing prospect in the Twins’ system and widely considered their top arm. He made his major league debut last season, appearing in 10 games and going 1-1 with a 4.66 earned-run average.

Graterol set the franchise velocity record with pitches of 101.2 and 101.9 mph against the Cleveland Indians on Sept. 15. He made the playoff roster and pitched one scoreless inning in the Twins’ three-game playoff loss to the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series, striking out two.

This is a salary dump, and not from some woebegone Midwestern also-ran, but from the Boston Goddamn Red Sox. The most successful franchise of the past 15 years—a business concern that appreciates in value year-by-year run at a grotesque profit by hideously wealthy men—has announced that it won’t make a credible effort to compete, in the hopes that a public blinded by regional partisanship and hatred of player wealth will believe that it is in fact too poor to compete.

The average ticket price at Fenway Park is going up next year, by the way.

Quite the week.  In sum:

-Mookie & David Price are gone (even if the trade isn't official yet)

-Roenicke is the new manager

-The Red Sox didn't cheat (as egregiously as the Astros, anyways)

Uhhhh... this is kinda nuts.

no shit. What the hell are we? A fucking AA team in Maracaibo run by the government of Venezuela?

So rumors are trade is on hold due to shady medical records.

The trade didn't fall through because of shady medical records - EVERYONE - in baseball, including the Twins, considers Graterol a reliever.  It is well-known he had Tommy John in 2016.  The trade fell through because ownership was somehow, incredibly,  caught off-guard by the Boston fan backlash.  So they used the medicals as a pretense to move the goalposts on the deal in an attempt to placate their fans.  The only shady business was conducted by the gutless Red Sox ownership.

Jesus Christ.  Well, I'm glad we got four banners before we went back to pre-2004 times.

The 'Verdugo + Pillar = Mookie' take is going to be a bad one this year.

(Oh, and Verdugo might already miss the start of the season.)

Star Red Sox lefty Chris Sale is slated to undergo an MRI on his elbow, skipper Ron Roenicke tells reporters. At this point, the outlook isn’t known.

Sale reported soreness in the joint after throwing. He had dealt with some arm woes late last year, but seemed to be at full arm health as camp opened. Sale was delayed by illness, but the expectation was that he’d be able to ramp up as normal — just on a slight delay.

The results of the MRI will be sent to famed surgeon Dr. James Andrews for analysis. That’s alarming, at first glance, given that Andrews is known for performing so many Tommy John surgeries. That said, it’s also an obvious and sensible decision, given that the orthopedist treated Sale last season and is therefore intimately familiar with his medical situation.

There’s no reason to rush to judgment. But the situation is obviously concerning for a Boston organization that is entering an interesting and uncertain season. Just days ago, Sale told MLB.comthat his arm felt good. Now, there’s sufficient cause for imaging.

No TJ surgery for Sale, per The Athletic.

Aaaaaand after all that... Tommy John surgery for Chris Sale.

They must be banking on the MLB season being dramatically reduced (if not cancelled altogether) this year.

Y’all gonna start a new thread?

Yeah, I'll get around to it.

The replies to that tweet are (not surprisingly)... yikes.  Love the "season ticket holder since 1976" copy & paste job.
