So it sounds like you’re blaming Arkansas on Card.

I want you to think real hard on this.

Arkansas play 1 gets positive yards. I believe it was a run. Play 2 was again a run. A massive cluster which led to negative yards. After ULaLa, there were positives from Cards effort. So that Oline came out and messed their drawers from the opening play (or 2nd if you will). But the pass game was cleaned up well before Casey came in.

With good QB play, we could have won.

But make no mistake the play calling post Arkansas is more variable to start the game. Also the Oline started cleaning things up from the 2nd quarter of Arkansas on. Still too many misses, but that was cleaned up versus Tech.

These last two games are a QBs dream. Easy, easy , easy. Lots of easy throws. Fairly easy reads on many. And a run game that has defenses skeert.

Casey has done his job. He’s the starter.

But damn if we can’t give the Oline some credit. And then if we aren’t attributing it to the QB.
Sorry, but my money is on new scheme. Angilau and Jones switching spots from last year. Same with Kerstetter who also broke his damn ankle. The other two dudes are relatively inexperienced in high profile situations. And for some, maybe OZ is a big reason. Rice and Tech we had lots of hats on hats. There were times we moved the LOS several yards.

Good post.

Tech back up qb columbi? That dude put up 3 big throws.  Those throws were actually quite well placed and coverage wasn’t horrible. Pass rush needs to get there to prevent those.

Yah, those back to back TD throws were something. The one where we forced the receiver out of bounds, that one was just thrown at a good spot, and the defender tripped down the sideline, recovering just in time for Schooler to turn heel on him. The next one was just a GREAT throw. Coverage isn't bad when you're touching forearms with the guy down the field, but that Columbo or whatever dropped it right out on that receiver's fingers, where he had to chase the rabbit. It was money, sometimes you gotta just tip the cap. It's those mid-range completions I'm concerned about.

I took the time to poop this out in another thread so ill repost it here:

Colorado (5 drives, 4 TD and a FG) *scores on 5-5 drives*

1. Robinson runs for 66 yards, Casey hits Moore for the TD

2. 7 plays, 80yds TD pass to Moore again

3. 6 plays, 43 yds, FG

4. 6 plays, 75 yds, TD pass to Bijan

5. 2 plays, 75 yds, 73 yd TD pass to Dixon

Lousiana (2 drives, TD and a FG) *scores on 2-2 drives*

1. 10 plays, 75 yds, TD pass to J Whitt

2. 6 plays, 18 yds, FG

3. doesn't count, just running the ball to run out the clock in a blowout

Arkansas (2 drives, 2 TDs) *scores on 2-2 drives*

1. 10 plays, 75 yds, rush for the TD

2. 14 plays, 75 yds, rush for the TD

Rice (8 drives, 7 TDs) *scores on 7-8 drives*

1. 9 plays, 69 yds, TD

2. threw an interception

3. 3 plays, 80 yds, TD (just running plays this drive)

4. 6 plays, 65 yds, TD

5. 5 plays, 89 yds, TD

6. 5 plays, 62 yds, TD pass to Wiley

7. 5 plays, 44 yds, TD pass to Worthy

8. 3 plays, 84 yds, TD

Tech (9 drives, 8 TDs) *scores on 8-9 drives*

1. 10 plays, 75 yds, TD pass to Bijan

2. 9 plays, 80 yds, TD

3. 12 plays, 75 yds, TD rush

4. 6 plays, 40 yds, TD pass to Worthy

5. 9 plays, 84 yds, TD

6. threw an interception

7. 2 plays, 7 yds, TD pass to Whitt

8. 6 plays 87 yds, TD pass to Worthy

9. 3 plays 75 yds, TD pass to Worthy

So

Colorado (5 drives, 4 TD and a FG) *scores on 5-5 drives*

Lousiana (2 drives, TD and a FG) *scores on 2-2 drives*

Arkansas (2 drives, 2 TDs) *scores on 2-2 drives*

Rice (8 drives, 7 TDs) *scores on 7-8 drives*

Tech (9 drives, 8 TDs) *scores on 8-9 drives*

Scores on 24 of 26 drives with 22 TDs and 2 FGs

Really he threw two meaningless picks, but it's a pick for every 11 TDs or every 12 scores.

It feels good to have a QB who is playing well, and I couldn't be happier with him.

A pick isn't meaningless just because he threw it in the end zone. His pick took 3 pts and killed some of the team's momentum.

Fortunately the circumstances were such that it wasn't a big deal, but that's the kind of play that can break your back in a different situation.

we will have the advantage at QB against OU.

For the first time in a long while.
we will have the advantage at QB against OU.

Counterpoint: We were at a disadvantage at coach and defense. Imagine what Sam would do to our defense most years with Lincoln Riley calling the shots. Ehlinger outrushed Bijan Robinson 112 to 17 in last year’s game for fuck’s sake.

OU has kicked our ass with far too many Texas QBs, like Baker and Kyler.  About time we returned the favor with a QB from Oklahoma.

Have we started an over/under on the number of times the announcers mention that Casey's dad played QB for OU during the game? Whatever it is, I'm taking the over.

I agree with just Casey starting.

Casey named starter back in spring ball however and I think we blow ULL out and do end up winning vs Arky.

I believe later in the cycle when a qb of theirs decommited, but he held firm on going to Texas

Hopefully for once we can hear the Ou never offered him a scholarship narrative for a kid that grew up in their backyard.

We might as well say that anyway since it was basically a last ditch effort on their part. They fucked around and found out

Yes.. they offered early. They signed Cameron Rising instead. Texas flipped Rising and the world thought Casey would go to OU, but OU never circled back around for Casey and signed Tanner Mordeci. He was offered, but I do not think he was ever really recruited by OU

After we flipped Cameron Rising from OU, they offered Casey IIRC.

OK, yeah I wanted to say Rising, but I wasn't entirely sure it was him. I just knew someone decommited and they made a last ditch effort.

You are right. People thought it wasn't committable since Cam Rising was committed to them. Once Rising flipped, OU started pushing for him. Herman did an amazing job of keeping both committed to us.

Casey visited OU on September 27. There were rumors Riley was making a last minute push but that was out of desperation rather than prioritizing him from the beginning.

Here is the quote that says Riley wanted him to flip. For whatever reason, he stuck with us and for that I am a big fan.

"Thompson was given every chance to flip, too. Lincoln Riley texted. An Alabama coach came to watch Thompson practice. Oregon interrupted Thompson's prom to offer a scholarship via text. Ole Miss, Auburn and Arkansas joined a chase that once included Clemson, Miami, Ohio State and Florida State."

https://www.oklahoman.com/article/5576776/sooner-born-bred-casey-thompson-signs-with-texas

OU slow played Thompson. Didn't show him the respect he deserved. He made the right choice.

Riley can put whatever narrative he wants out there, but it's a revenge game for Casey.

Good grief does it feel good to have a QB I trust, who excels at running a good offensive scheme, and is surrounded by playmakers and effective at getting the ball to them. I haven't felt this good about Texas football since 2008/2009.

And kudos to Sark for switching to the backup. Over the years, how many times have the fans clamored to give the backup a chance only to have a Texas HC dig in and stick with a starter who is struggling?? Sark actually made the switch, and it is fucking working. Holy shit, we might have a badass head coach this time.

And the future looks good! If we can keep Thompson for one more year, that'll give Card and Malik time to mature in the system. The RB room is stacked. Worthy is a true freshman. Recruiting class is #4 with all our 5* targets still on the board. Hot damn, we may be going places.
