January 25Jan 25 Discovered during my trip to Europe that if you're in a non-English or Spanish speaking country, you don't get those loud and annoying injected ads in US sporting podcasts. At least for CFB. This week I've made sure to turn on the vpn set to Portugal on my cell phone when I dl or listen and it's worked like a charm. I hear ads, if any, set for the beginning of a podcast, any that are read during the course of the podcast, and commercial breaks established by the podcast producer. But no injected ads that break into the middle of dialogue. YMMV.Â

February 7Feb 7 My dog walks average ~50 minutes a day. I recently "discovered" Coffee and Football from OnTexas. It's a Mon-Fri 60-90 minute podcast talking about Longhorns football. It's pretty good and works great for the walks. I set it to play and then shove my cellphone in my pocket and listen for the entire dog walk. Turns out though, that's a lot of data and my $20 GoogleFi cheapskate plan ended up as a $60 plan this last billing cycle! How do I download those to my phone over WiFi and then listen to them without using any data? Â

The best I've heard of from people who have it is Mint mobile.Â

If you’re interested in taking your gameday knowledge to the next level, Bobby Burton, Gerry Hamilton, Rod Babers and CJ Vogel have you covered with inside recruiting information, roster breakdowns, and updates on the premier college football program in the country!"  They talk about whatever the hot topic is for Longhorns football of the day, or random Longhorn football subjects if it's a quiet day. Bobby seems to run the blah blah blah stuff and some other guys fill in, like Gerry & CJ and I think there's a new guy this week now? I had to go onsite for work today, so didn't walk the dogs. But here's today's 72 minute podcast:  Edited February 7Feb 7 by ATXbronco

But nevertheless it's a good listen when you can see them. As for your phone, wait it out, then switch. I really do recommend Mint Mobile due to some friends of mine that have it. It's very affordable and has unlimited everything. I'm sure it has Safari, which I personally use because I hate Tapa. But yeah, Mint seems to be great, affordable, owned by Ryan Reynolds and his partner (seriously, and they're serious about helping the customer save money for a better plan). February 7Feb 7 They literally put them out as podcasts on Spotify audio only. There's also an audio only option on YouTube I'm pretty sure.Â

The free Spotify doesn't, but it DOES let you download podcasts for offline listening! So, I get to keep my cheap $20, 1GB data plan and don't have to pay anything to listen to podcasts on my long dog walks. Here are the Spotify podcasts I've "followed" today. Click the links to open in Spotify, so you can follow them. On Texas Football  3rd & Longhorn Inside Texas Football   I also discovered that I don't have to manually download anything. You can actually configure Spotify to auto-download all new podcasts! To do that, you just click the three-dot menu:  Then, enable the auto-download option:  If you don't want to auto-download, then just click the download button on each podcast you want to listen to. A green checkbox indicates an episode you've downloaded:  I tested by downloading some episodes. Then, I turned on "Airplane mode" and pressed play. Nothing happened. I turned off airplane mode and clicked play and it started playing. But I wanted to make sure I was getting offline playback. So, I turned off WiFi and Data and clicked play and it still works! No hiccups during todays hour-long dog walk even though I had WiFi & Data disabled the entire time.  Thanks! Â
March 18Mar 18 Any other good podcasts out there that offer daily Longhorns sports news?  I can't handle the On Texas Football shit any longer. It's fucking RELENTLESS with the "Indeed" commercials. Over and over and over again every few minutes. I've unsubscribed and am moving on. Â
March 18Mar 18 And before you ask... I tried four different podcast players and the Indeed commercial was blaring out of all of them, so it's something that OTF has added. Â

Also if you get extra ads there it's because you aren't subscribed.Â
March 18Mar 18 6 minutes ago, immamac said: Are you listening in a podcast app? They only do ad reads every so often it's the platform injecting the ads otherwise. Yep, Android podcast apps. Why would four different platforms all play the exact same add?   I'll try running a virtual instance of Android on my Windows desktop and see how that behaves.
March 18Mar 18 Just now, ATXbronco said: Yep, Android podcast apps. Why would four different platforms all play the exact same add? Â Â Because indeed is trying to buy podcast ad airtime and you've been targeted by them? That's how adtech works.Â
March 18Mar 18 Surely they can control the number/duration of ads though, right? They're the only pod that I listen to with so many ads. When I see a 22 minute position preview, I'm going in with the assumption that at third of that time is ads. I've unsubbed from others for less, but I like OTF (enough to be a paying member there). I did recently go for YouTube Premium for unrelated reasons, so that helps.Â
March 18Mar 18 I usually listen on Spotify and have never heard an Indeed ad. Easy to fast forward through commercials on Spotify also.
March 18Mar 18 46 minutes ago, Bodacious Bevo said: Surely they can control the number/duration of ads though, right? They're the only pod that I listen to with so many ads. Same. No other podcast I listen to on an android app even has injected ads that burst loudly into the middle of a conversation. If they have an ad there's an obvious transition and it's an ad by a show sponsor. A vpn through a non-english or spanish speaking country worked to remove the injected ads for a time but about 2 weeks after I posted about that somewhere on this board, the workaround worked no more. I rarely listen anymore. Edited March 18Mar 18 by Chopper
