March 19Mar 19 I listened to today's Coffee and Football using Playpod, which is an open-source product, free and doesn't have ads. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.playapod I didn't get any Joel Embiid commercials! I finally got a whole round of new and previously unheard inserted ads. And there might have been fewer commercials/ads than before too? A little closer to acceptable. I know they're trying to earn a paycheck, after all. I like the Playapod player. Would recommend. Developer might be US-based.

Thanks for using this space as your personal diary entry for the day. Im sure many of us were sweating out your overall thoughts on the freeware you were testing out to try and listen to your podcasts, as well as the contact information for said freeware and the speculation of where they're based. On the recruiting forum. Of a football website. And you magnanimity on the folks who are simply trying to earn a paycheck is truly heartening. 10/10, would recommend. We're all waiting with baited breath on your thoughts concerning the new fiber product you'll be testing out next. Because that review makes perfect sense as well, right here, on the recruiting forum. Of a football board.
March 19Mar 19 If you guys don't want to pay for YouTube premium, I'd suggest trying out https://vanced.to/revanced-manager You'll have to allow your phone to download from outside source and only for android users but other than that should be good to go. Don't have to worry about ads and also has some features where it automatically skips intros and advertisement within the video.

March 23Mar 23 All the ads are a beating. The reads, the injected ads, all of it. YES WE UNDERSTAND they need to do it to produce content and pay the bills. YES it still sucks ass. NO the YT app is not a great option. I listen in the car via CarPlay on iPhone's podcast app - no CarPlay for YT. The formula for OTF now is: Listen to only one of Coffee or Livestream - it's all a repeat unless there is breaking news. Skip the Babers/Shipley segments b/c Rod babbles the same "football investigator," "DBU," and Akina love things 5x over and over. Shipley spins the same tales of the old days again and again too. Skip "Hump Day with Hills" segments unless you are all about sunshine pumping over the top fake enthusiasm - hard to believe Bobby pays for that. Hit the :30 skip forward 6x at the top of the pod which gets you through the initial ad reads and the "tell us where you're at, tell us what you're drinking, and oh BTW super chats can interrupt the show at any time" disclaimers. Whenever an ad read pops up midway, hit :30 second skip another 6x. Nothing you miss won't be repeated again. With all that in mind a 1hr Coffee and Football can be done in about 20-25 minutes on 1.5x. All that said, I actually do like OTF. I enjoy Gerry's recruiting updates, every once in awhile Bobby drops some behind the scenes stuff. They are at their best when they disagree and debate, wish they did more of it. For all the flaws it's miles better than any other Longhorn focused pod.

For all the flaws it's miles better than any other Longhorn focused pod. I think most of this "formula" is pretty accurate, but I have a couple of quibbles: Rod can be a beating with DBU and Akina, but his football investigator stuff presents some interesting data points imo. Maybe this is just because my X & O knowledge is shallow, but I feel like I learn some from him. The other nitpick is no mention of Jeff Howe. He seems to be a really good storehouse of information with reasonable takes. Anyway, back to the discussion of everyone's favorite, Wescunt Eberts.
March 28Mar 28 I was wrong about Howe. I think he's pretty good and brings something to the shows. I wish the baseball show was on more than once a week.
March 28Mar 28 You realize a lot of these guys were being held back and/or made shittier by working for ass tier level publications and ownership, right? They have complete freedom and they love what they are doing.
March 28Mar 28 Jeff Howe is solid. Bobby is the numbers guy. He's the business man, but he gets in trouble talking ball. Due to a bit of limited knowledge of the depth of the sports he's OTF's Captain Obvious. The other day after day 1 of spring practice he said several of the freshman are "looking good but they aren't there yet. They are making freshman mistakes." Really, Bobby? The freshman are making freshman mistakes on Day 1 of spring practice? Who could have seen that coming. I had to turn it off after that one. Just on principle.
March 28Mar 28 If I read that someone is “flashing” or “turning heads” one more time, there will be trouble.
March 28Mar 28 CJ was good when Gerry and Jeff weren't there in the beginning but he's arguably the weakest link of the team.

In the beginning he was awkward, but he's come into his own. I personally have a hard time listening to Babers. Good guy, but he personally is the weakest link outside of his X's and O's. I just can't listen to him.

He probably puts in the most work to preview opponents and understand matchups In the off-season he tends to fall back on generic platitudes, though I’d imagine some of that is because he doesn’t have the same network of sources in the program and around the country that Bobby and Gerry do, respectively

April 3Apr 3 During the season, he’s one of the best—his preparation and matchup analysis are top-tier. In the offseason, though, his insights feel more surface-level, likely because he doesn’t have the same deep connections as Bobby and Gerry. Still, his in-season work shows how much effort he puts into understanding the game. youtube vanced

April 3Apr 3 I love Burton, Gerry, etc. but even during the season about 1 hour of their podcasts as week is more than enough for me. It all gets very repetitive. Not their fault. There just is not that much to really discuss.

April 3Apr 3 This probably goes in the unpopular opinions thread and I know I will be excoriated but, in the off season, I actually like Ketchum's show with Chad Hastings better than the seven-times-per-day OTF offerings. You can start beating me up now.
