I'm going to try and find a pirate website to at least catch the NZ match in Dharamsala for the scenery if nothing else.

We're talking about MLB baseball. You probably don't, unless Pablo Sandoval became Bo Jackson overnight and I somehow missed it. Let me know when their outfielders ditch the giant-ass gloves

  • Still all this nonsense about "Dhonis role" in the ODI side. It's called "winner."

ODI World Cup started today as the Kiwis beat the living fuckballs out of the Poms.  Won by 9 wickets with 82 balls remaining.

Pakis play Holland tomorrow then Afghanistan v Bangladesh and South Africa v Sri Lanka on Saturday.  Real tournament gets started on Sunday when India and Australia face off.

Start time for these matches is dog shit for those of us in God's time zone.  Matches start at either midnight or 3:30 in the AM.  Fuck that.

India vs. NZ will be huge today. Both unbeaten and on top of the points table

India wins.

Yesterday the Saffers put an absolute beatdown on the Poms.  Great weekend at the WC.

Afghanistan defeat Pakistan. Huge run chase. Good for them.

I didn't see it, but based on the runs and only losing two wickets I would imagine the dew came in and made it a docile pitch for scoring.

England continue to get their asses kicked.  This time the Sri Lankan fellows did the honors with an eight wicket victory chasing only 156.  They completed the deed in 25.4 overs.  England were all out in 33.2 overs.

Poooooooooor pommies.  Now watch India get beat by those hapless fucks.

Right, that is what I meant. In my defense, I had woken up at 5 AM to see the Aus vs NZ match.

AUS vs NZ was hell of a match.

England collapses to 129 not out against India. Their batting has just been dismal this series

Australia officially eliminate the Poms from the tournament and India is shitstomping errybody.

Hope India can maintain form the rest of the way.  Too many times I've seen them hitting on all cylinders then have that one "off game" in the knockouts and wind up with jack shit to show for their efforts.

King Kohli equals Sachin with his 49th ODI century.  Complete dismantling of the supposed #2 team in the tournament winning by 243 runs.  Bowled out the Saffers for 83 in 27.1 overs.  Rockstar Jaddu picks up a 5-fer.

I don't know the first fucking thing about cricket, but all the sports subreddits are going bonkers about a guy for Australia today.

Any context for those of us that have no idea what happened?

Afghanistan scored 291/5 against heavily-favoured Australia, and then reduced them to 91/7 in the chase. At that point Afghanistan had a 99.4% chance of sealing one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history and guaranteeing a spot in the semifinals.

Then Australia's Glenn Maxwell (who was dropped on 33 and survived an LBW dismissal with a last-second review) scored an unbeaten 201 to carry Australia home. Greatest innings in World Cup history, surpassing Kapil Dev's 175 not out against Zimbabwe in 1983 to rescue India from a similarly hopeless position.

So basically, bottom of the 9th, Australia is way behind, and this dude goes HAM and hits like 30 homers in a row?

Is Maxwell a superstar-level player?

Maxwell is probably a little bit past his prime, but in the past he was one of the most fearsome batsmen in the world.  Dude could score a lot of runs in a hurry.  This match was a throwback to some of his destructive ways.  Scoring 201 runs off 128 balls for a 157 strike rate is insane.  You will see 157 strike rates but it's usually over 50 balls or fewer, not 128.

Almost everybody got to bowl in the last match against Netherlands.  The only guys that didn't get an over were Shreyas Iyer and K.L. Rahul.

You figure it has to be a good day when Rohit and Virat are among the wicket takers in the bowling attack.  Looks like SKY needs to get his shit together though, gave up two sixes in his two overs and got tonked for an 8.5 economy rate.

If anything is to translate from these 9 matches, India is no longer a chasing only side. The bowling attack has done exceptionally well to defend totals, but I don't recall a match thus far where the batting completely failed.

India chased down New Zealand comfortably with two overs to spare in round robin play. In a batting friendly ground like Wankhede, I would prefer India chase and might need healthy doses of Jaddu and Kuldeep if the wicket starts turning. Although the last match India played at Wankhede against Sri Lanka, 9 wickets fell courtesy of pace bowling. India batted first and put up 357 runs and were able to make Sri Lanka collapse for 55 runs (with 10 extras). Of course, New Zealand is a better side, so that collapse isn't expected. However, it is interesting that the Kiwis haven't played at Wankhede during this ODI World Cup.

Rohit did Rohit things, and the 100 up in 12 overs for India. Good toss to win.

50th ODI century for Kohli! India post a massive target of 398 for NZ to chase down.

Mohammed Shami, you beautiful fat bastard.

Seven wickets... is that good, because it seems pretty fucking good.  Clean up the fielding before the finals, dipshits.

good match between SA and Aus. SA putting up ~240 would have made it much closer

time for India to avenge the 03 finals (and 15 semis)

2003 World Cup was when I first got into cricket.  No one was beating Australia that day after Ponting went bonkers.  Although if memory serves me right, there was a rain delay during India's innings and they had an outside shot of screwing over Australia via a dodgy DLS victory.

Just win baby

Not looking good for India at all. 178/5 in 36 overs, Rahul + SKY are the last two specialists batsmen and Australia is swinging the ball like crazy

ugh, was hoping they could pull together to at least 260, but with KL going out that looks unlikely

this is when we most miss hardik

also the WK stumping for a free review loophole is fucking stupid

This wicket is a limp noodle.

Australia is gonna go HARD in the first 10, because without dew this is not an easy target to chase. India needs to get Warner, Head, and Marsh in the first 10.

SKY played a fucking joke of an innings. Kept exposing the tail and then played on after trying the same stupid shot thrice. Dude has no answers for the slower ball and Australia knew it

head playing the innings KL should have played

Aus fielding saved 25-30 runs, meanwhile Ind fielders have 0 fucks to give

Brohit not putting in a slip fielder at anytime while defending a middling 240 is criminal.

Sloppy bowling + fielding didn't help India but this pitch isn't nearly as threatening now as it was earlier. It was a devastating toss to lose.

Maybe stop relying on pitch doctoring and put together a plan that can be adjusted as required when things change.  Just saying.

We’re not going to even mention that bullshit in Hyderabad yesterday due to anger issues. Instead, let’s tip our hats to the West Indies and new bowling sensation Shamar Joseph in particular as they went into the Gabba and pulled off a thrilling, historic 8 run upset over Australia.

Late on day 3, Joseph caught a Mitchell Starc 138 km/h Yorker square on his big toe and had to leave the match in excruciating pain. He said he wasn’t even sure if he would come to the ground on day 4. All he did was take 7 wickets. He bowled 10 overs on the trot and was slinging it 147 km/hr with that busted up toe.

Unbelievable performance, heart of a lion, you just can’t say enough about the effort. India doesn’t have 1/1000 the heart of these guys.

Shamar Joseph was incredible... on possibly a broken toe. Legendary performance.

And yeah, let's leave it at that, though if I don't see a fiery response in the next test in India I want to see a head or two roll...

Nothing a little pitch doctoring can't fix.  Live look at the Visakhapatnam ground:

Batting was one manchild and a bunch of babies, but bowlers came to play.

Left too many runs unscored in the first innings.  There were probably three cases where a batsman was set and threw away their wicket due to pure stupidity.  Thank goodness for a great innings from Jaiswal.

Anyone planning on going to the T20 World Cup? Pricey to say the least, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
