February 19, 20196 yr Anybody ever stayed here? I'm thinking about booking a room for the Houston Rodeo in a couple of weeks....looking for something really nice and this one caught my interest
February 19, 20196 yr It’s pretty nice. The pool scene is pretty nice if you are into that kind of thing. There isn’t too much around there though. You’d have to Uber to some other bars. We prefer to stay at Hotel Icon downtown. It’s a pretty cool hotel with a bunch of bars and restaurants within stumbling distance. Icon is located right near a stop in the metro line that will take you straight down to NRG...I think Zara isn’t too far from a stop either.
February 19, 20196 yr It’s really nice, but yea you’ll be going to places that are an Uber away instead of walking distance. The hotel bar is known as one of the local cougar/escort hangouts in the evening which is a plus. It is right near a train stop however for going to the rodeo.
February 19, 20196 yr I stayed there once. Its nice but not as good as the dallas zaza. Close to rice village and the zoo. Edited February 19, 20196 yr by EvilCaseMcCoy

We are going to the rodeo/Luke Bryan concert. Not interested in the cougars lol
February 19, 20196 yr Goddamn...you might at well just stay at a fucking motel 6 if you’re going to hear that marble mouthed turd. But I hope you have a good time.

(Maybe early 2006.) It was my first time and as we wandered past some two-top tables inside on our way to the bar, I was shocked that even though dinner was kind of "over" and the entire place had turned into a bar, there were tables with one or two girls sitting there and no guys were going up to hit on them. I'm not good at the bar scene and I definitely have never been one to drop $100 to $300 at a bar, but there were plenty of guys in there who looked like they were in their element there, so I asked a friend what the deal was. He looked around, surveyed the scene, and then turned back to me and said "Oh, they're prostitutes." I thought "Huh... I cannot afford this place."... but I remember that the scenery was definitely nice. Edited February 19, 20196 yr by Napoleon
February 19, 20196 yr Zaza is a great place to stay, your girlfriend will be happy, and the people watching at the bar is incredible.
February 19, 20196 yr Ask for an upgrade when you check in. Every time we have done this they bump us up to one of the magnificent 7 rooms.

February 19, 20196 yr I stay at ZaZa or Icon, usually determined by our plans. ZaZa has a few Yukon Denali's that will drop you off within 5 miles of the hotel for free. We tip the guy and he will give you a card and will return when needed. They will not go to NRG for events though. The train station is right behind the hotel. There are some nice museums near by if you like that thing.
February 19, 20196 yr As has been noted, ZaZa is the closest nice hotel to the stadium, and is convenient to the train. You may be a little crowded going southbound, depending on the time. You will definitely be packed in when leaving, but you will appreciate that ZaZa is only about three or four stops from the stadium going. MF Sushi is nearby and is extraordinary.
February 19, 20196 yr Just an FYI, last time we went to NRG, our event didn't end until after midnight. We took the train back to ZaZa. The train was mostly full of homeless drunk dudes. One guy was walking around with a 40 in one hand and dice in the other trying to get people to bet with him. It was a little uncomfortable with the wife and kid. The ZaZa bellman told us the next day that travel after midnight can get a little sketchy. Edited February 19, 20196 yr by obigbo
February 19, 20196 yr There are several pretty good bars within 5 minutes of Zaza in midtown. http://www.holmandrafthall.com/ http://beermarketco.com/midtown/index.html https://www.brasstapbeerbar.com/Houston You're also going to be a 5 minute ride from the Westheimer and Montrose area where there are a bunch of restaurants and bars as well, but I don't know that area as well. We usually hang around Midtown or the north side of downtown by Icon.
February 19, 20196 yr Those bars listed above in Midtown are an easy train ride from Zaza. The downtown bars by Icon are just a few more stops down.

While not a bad heads up, completely different during rodeo time. Trains will be very full after midnight. Only times I've felt uncomfortable on the train late night after rodeo happened a few stops north of downtown (used to live in Lindale), but then I didn't have kids.
February 19, 20196 yr Zaza for sure in the summertime cause the pool scene is awesome, definitely need to get one of the upgraded suites. ..I can't remember which one I stay in but it's got the mirrored dining room table. At least one shagster (not me) admitted to doing a bunch of coke on that table. More often than not I stay at the ICON because it's usually more economical, we just uber around. How are other downtown hotels like the magnolia?
February 19, 20196 yr i like the magnolia stayed there once during a staycation many years ago with the wife. i think we ended up going to a stoney larue concert. had a complimentary happy hour when we checked in and gave milk and cookies when we stumbled back late that night. lots of good options in downtown now - marriot marquis is another one that comes to mind pretty quickly. plus they have xochi

February 19, 20196 yr Have not been to ZaZa Houston in a while, but I imagine it still has a decent party scene. Last time I stayed at ZaZa Dallas, they were burning so much incense throughout the hotel I got a damn migraine, not sure if they still do it in Houston. Also, ask for a room far away from the bar and pool, unless you want to hear club music until 2 AM. If you are going to party, it may not matter and will probably be a lot of fun. Probably can pick up an extra friend at the bar to take back to the room if you are in to that kind of thing. Also, NRG is a fucking nightmare to get out of if you drive and park there.
February 19, 20196 yr How many freaking Porsche nuts do we have on here? Holy cow, it's like 6speed. NRG works pretty well if you uber.
February 20, 20196 yr No love for The Post Oak? I was thinking of staying there next time I go to Houston. Did I choose poorly?
February 20, 20196 yr I imagine the Uber line and surge charges will be insane. $1.25 each way for the train.

Uber on the way there shouldn't be more of a hassle than any other outing, with more traffic. Uber on the way out would be a beating - designated p/u location, 1000 people trying at once, etc. Train will be a shitshow, but it's a short ride. Another tip: if the northbound line is too bananas, you can get on the train southbound and stay on. It's only one stop south before the train comes back north

Looked like the nicest place in town so I picked it. As far as the area of town, we’ll Uber everywhere no matter what anyway so I’m not too worried about that either. Unless there’s something glaring that I’m missing?
February 20, 20196 yr Ubering out of the NRG area after a Rodeo show can be a supreme beating, but at least it will also be 4x supercharge or whatever

No -- it was a joke about Fertitta, not about the hotel. Looks nice, and great location.... Lighten up, Francis

Pretty sure it’s the only 5 star hotel in Houston, so yea you won’t be disappointed. Of course now you’re in the Galleria area, so that sucks unless you like that sort of thing.

February 21, 20196 yr 1 minute ago, Landomatic said: Not knowing anything about the area...what’s the problem there? Decent but not great restaurants, but it’s mainly overpriced shopping. Although in my opinion the best steak in town is pappa’s on Westheimer over in that general vicinity. Most Houstonians hate that area for the traffic and general congestion. Depends on the nature of the trip though I suppose. Secret of the pros: There are actually floors of the Post Oak Hotel that can be used as condos or busiess offices with access to Tilman’s Personal helicopter service etc. Big whigs may want to inquire.
February 21, 20196 yr hmmm 1. a member of the British reforming and constitutional party that sought the supremacy of Parliament and was eventually succeeded in the 19th century by the Liberal Party. 2. an American colonist who supported the American Revolution.
February 24, 20196 yr Uber in, rail out. Unless you don't mind waiting an hour in the uber line to get out. And paying a 5x surge charge. That's real talk right there. ZaZa is a nice hotel. Your lady friend will love it, which means you'll probably love it. And they have a pretty good Sunday brunch if you're staying over a weekend (I'm not looking to see what date Luke Bryan is playing, cuz don't care). ICON is also a nice hotel, and it too is on the rail line. Bonus is that it is located downtown and makes it pretty easy to get this barbeque place over in East Downtown that you may be interested in checking out.
