Maybe a Bottlecap question. What are the best breweries in Austin for someone with a wife, a five year old, and a one year old?

Try them both. They’re about a mile apart.
We've done Live Oak. I love it, but we'll probably do something new this time.

Hi Sign needs the business and is great. Go there.

Most of the breweries in town are kid friendly or at least tolerant. ABGB is great. Jester King is nice when it’s not 105. My kids like ABW because they have board games. Same with St. Elmo.

Brewtorium has a lot of room to run around, and it’s indoors. Austin Beerworks also has room enough to caper as does ABGB. But definitely hit Hi Sign.

Hi Sign also has Courson’s BBQ, and they’re excellent.

That's good to know. Thanks.

Odd13 is a newer Colorado brewery, and they make good stuff.

Clown shoes branding ripoff much?

No. You can take a crowler though.

They usually have it in cans on site takeaway but heb also usually has it.

All of them? I regularly take a 7/5/2 yo group to abw.

Holy fuck Rum Runner might be one of the worst Founders beers ever.

It didn't sound appealing at all to me so I never picked one up.

Made it out to Hi-Sign. Pretty cool setup they have here. The girls are already claiming the chalk wall.fc6e673cf3dd9f43b57b29fdb454265d.jpg

Sorry Barrel Runner not Rum Runner.

Yes, surprisingly terrible.

That looks good. I may head out there this afternoon.

I enjoyed everything I tried. BBQ was pretty good too. I'll be back.

They’re canning Violet is the coming week.

Violet is already out. Got it at HEB yesterday. Finally trying Hi C and I dig. The construction has to be a bitch for biz.

They ran out of six packs to go and that was my wife's favorite that she tried.

Hahaha, didn't even notice that. Awesome.

On another note, just ran across a straggler 6 pack of DR18 at Total Wine by my SIL's house. Fantastic.

My trip was a month or two ago.

Ahh, good. Would have been disappointed had I overlooked something so obvious.

Tried this one tonight. Wasn’t sure at first but after a couple drinks started to like it. Could have just been the 17% ABV kicking in. Still a little warm for stouts but it’s getting closer to season

Stopped by yesterday and filled a growler of a WC style IPA called Lucifer something. Outstanding. These guys just don't make a bad beer, do they?

The bartender thanked us for coming in and mentioned that the construction was really hurting their business. He said Google maps had been giving people inaccurate directions and falsely reporting road closures. I don't know how google keeps up with that stuff but I imagine it can't be easy with all the construction.

Go support these guys, they deserve it.

Edit: talking about Hi-Sign in case that wasn't clear.

I think it was Lucifer’s Fake News or something. It was very good. I didn’t try the BBQ but it smelled really good.

Was it piney and bitter?

Making bittering hops great again.

Slamming NXNW Mango Zombie Dragon this afternoon. Not super high on NXNW but their latest batch of Zombie Dragon is delicious.

I liked Barrel Runner. Very tropical and unique.

Sourduck Market already has both Violet and Lucifer’s Fake News on tap, and I live two blocks away.

Oops. my bad. for future reference:

1 kid: all breweries except maybe blue owl

With more kids (i have three, kill me) I'd feel comfortable at: ABGB, Hi Sign, Jester King, Last Stand, Live Oak, Oasis, Oddwood (maybe, its kid friendly, but small), Pinthouse N/S, Skull Mechanix, Southern Heights, St Elmo, Family Business, Treaty Oak Brewery/Distillery (beer is terrible, cocktails tho), and Vista out past Salt Lick. I didn't miss any that I feel comfortable at, though your milage may vary. Vista is really my favorite pick w/r/t quality of beer, food, and overall experience. Live Oak is right up there too, but my kids are too wild for all that exposed rebar from ABIA construction.

Sour Duck has been my new go-to. Whoever their buyer is, is on it.

I have no idea what y'all are doing to entertain your kids at breweries but I'm jealous. My 4-year-old and 18-month-old are driving me up a wall within 10 minutes of arrival at a situation like that.

Chalk, coloring books, giant Jenga/Connect 4, playground, etc. They're fairly self-sufficient if any of those are available.

My girls are 10 and 6. Pretty easy for them to stay entertained at JK or ABGB with all the other kids around. Games and coloring books do the trick most places.

I hope the legal changes in October in Oklahoma allow for kids in taprooms.  I live close to most of our taprooms and see no reason I can't let my kids play with the board games. I took my daughter recently to the food truck park and "beer garden" and she had a blast playing cornhole.  I wish people weren't so uptight about shit, and that people were more responsible to not ruin shit for the rest of us in perception.

I guess I didn't realize that wasn't a thing in Oklahoma since I've been down here for over six years now. A friend recently came down to Houston to visit and couldn't believe there were kids out at the places we went to grab some beers. He wants to bring the whole family back now to check out different places we didn't have time for.

What's the law up there in regards to that? Just certain places?

As far as I can tell (and I've asked) kids can't be in tap rooms but can be in the outside patio areas.

Ahh, so maybe his surprise was mostly due to them living in a small town without many options.

My kids (10 and 8) love to play on all the concrete block with exposed rebar at Live Oak.  When they get tired of that, board games.

JK and ABGB are good too, but the lack or rebar is disappointing to them.

Having my first Houston Haze and its pretty tasty

Collabs never really meet my unreasonable expectations, but I'm really excited about this one

Launch on draft is this friday at Zilker

Tall boy cans soon. Just in time for FB season.

Done now. Picked up a case in the taproom this afternoon. Small batch of helles lager and a hef on the wall too, though not sure if they’re actually on the board. They were tasty.

Went to Harpoon today in Boston after work. It was fun but nothing special. Weather sucked. Any other Boston must hits?

Trillium. Thank me later.
