When it comes to rivalry games, you can toss the records out the window

Worse... 6-0 in top 5 or up 19 with 14:57 left?

*Hoops may still win though.

UTSA is about the same as them. Calm down. This isn't good.

Well one is a very early in the season and the other is a vital conference game that potentially could impact our tournament berth...

Calm down and panic?

And one is at home against an inferior opponent, other on the road against a favored opponent.

Either way, need hoops to hold.

bad loss for Texas. Hoops about to choke it away

Alright well that was a weird series of two games. Hopefully we see the good version of Texas this weekend.

Hate to lose that warmup game with a brutal gauntlet coming up.

Well we walk way too many. Defense is bad. And we aren’t clutch at the plate

but we have those sweet new uniforms

Hitting has been decent this year. Pitching and fielding are going to give us trouble

Everything has been really strong at times and bad at times. I don't have a good feeling overall yet.

Armypilot was weirdly trying to act like this game is typical for this season.

David Pierce and Shaka Smart can both walk home tonight.

Shaka can keep walking.

We were one hit by Purdue.

Its been ok by Texas standards but we aren’t good at the plate when you look across the landscape of baseball powers

Stop with this panic mongering bullshit. We play LSU every year. We won't be intimidated.

I’m not worried about intimidation and no we don’t play them every year.  Played them last year and this year.

Neely- 2 batter, 2 walks

O'Donnell- 1 IP 5 ER

Bad day for my fellow Churchill Chargers

He's this year's AustinOrange

Let’s not get too wrapped up on one game. We will drop a few more like this during the season, but it does happen to every team.

An 8-ball at home with a 6-run lead doesn’t happen that often.

In fact, one of you guys addicted to Twitter, when was the last time we blew a 6-run lead at home in one inning?

This sounds familiar.  At least we had some company last night.

Quote

• Top-ranked Vanderbilt squandered an early 5-0 lead at home against Austin Peay, which rallied from behind to win 7-6 in 10 innings. Matt Joslin came off the bench to deliver a game-tying two-run single through the right side in the ninth to force extra innings, and the Govs took the lead on Parker Phillips’ RBI fielder’s choice in the 10th. Brett Newberg earned the win with three strong innings of relief, striking out five and allowing just one run on two hits. The big victory marked Austin Peay’s second win against a top-five team in the last two years, as it also took down No. 5 Clemson last May.

We’ve repeatedly voiced concerns about the strike-throwing ability of Vanderbilt’s fleet of power arms over the last two years. On Wednesday, Vandy pitchers issued 12 walks, including five in the final two innings. The Commodores might have more high-end velocity than any staff in the country, but it will be interesting to see if they can figure out the strike-throwing piece as the season unfolds.

I understand Pierce using the UTSA game to get innings for the tail end of the staff. I also understand a frosh making his first appearance not finding the strike zone.

What I don’t understand is Nico and why Pierce waited to yank him. Perhaps, they’ve identified a live BP pitcher ...

It was a 6-0 game and Nico only saw five batters, walking two of those.  Given the stress that is being placed on the pitching staff this week, I don't think Pierce necessarily did anything wrong there.  Maybe he should have gone to Quintanilla since he would likely be needed to pitch at some point, but then again, it was what - a man on first when Nico was pulled? That's not a very high leverage spot given that it was only the 5th inning.

imo, Texas just got cluster fucked in this game.

Plus, I imagine there is a temptation or thought that a struggling pitcher like O'Donnell just needs to power through a bad inning or bad start in an inning to get his mojo back.

Nobody walked more than 2 batters.  But err'one walked 2 batters (not true, but true enough).

We're going to need every last one of these guys to come through at some point. If they combine to blow a lead against UTSA in February, that beats shitting the bed against a conference opponent (or better mid-week team) later.  If Pierce is a decent coach, he'll make sure this experience ends up  being a net positive.

Good thing the Disch isn’t actually grass because it would be too flooded to play with all the pant-pissing going on
