I've received several text messages in the last month saying my Google Verification Code is 123456. (I have 2-step verification enabled).

After the first 2 (same day), I changed my extremely complicated password to another which was just as complicated.

So this morning, I get another text message saying my Google Verification code is 654321...

I use 2-step verification where it's available, and so far haven't received texts from the other institutions, just Google. I'm 99.99% certain someone is trying to get into my Google account, but at a loss how they can figure out my password TWICE, but not other passwords. I'm going to re-run my anti-virus and anti-malware softwares again tonight, but am surprised how they could hack my account within a month. Any ideas?

Maybe the text message is some kind of trick.

I highly doubt those texts came from Google. You're account hasn't been hacked, yet, but if you still refuse to post a picture of the hot chick outside smoking I have no other choice.

BTW 123456 and 654321, really you think those are the codes???

Who would send those texts and why?

Good God man. That was 8 years ago. I got booted out of that office during renovations, and we've since then moved to another building (8th floor and no view of any hot chicks).

I will swear in the court of law that those are not the codes I got.

Did you text back your ssn, dob, and mother’s maiden name?  That’s the only way to get this to stop.

Your friends are fucking with you. Great gag.

I will lock down your account if you send me $200.

Verification Code Text Scam

  1. You previously linked your mobile phone number to safe guard your Gmail account in case you forget your password or can’t login.
  2. A scammer knows your Gmail address and phone number
  3. The scammer tries to perform a password reset on your Gmail account by requesting a verification code to your cell phone by text message
  4. You receive a text message from Google (example: “Your Google Verification code is [SIX-DIGIT CODE].”
  5. The scammer sends your a text message from their personal phone number (posing as Google) requesting you to text back the six-digit code. They will try to trick you by using a message for example (“Google has detected unauthorized activity on your account.” Please reply with the six digit code sent to your mobile device to stop all unauthorized activity.”)
  6. You believe the text message is from Google and you reply with a text message with the six-digit code
  7. The scammer uses your six-digit code to complete the password reset and recovery process to gain access to your Gmail account.

I haven't received any phone calls though... so maybe someone really is trying to get into my account. Still wondering how they get my password though. I'd pretty long and complicated, like JT's sex life.

Sounds like something a bot would post

Sounds like something a robutt would say

And some regular guy may have his authenticator cell number set up wrong. He may be trying to reset his OWN password, and Google is sending the code to the wrong number. That wrong number being you.

So the combination is 1-2-3-4-5. That's the stupidest combination I've ever heard in my life! That's the kind of thing an idiot would have on his luggage!

I don't care how long ago it was I'll #neverforget or forgive. You started that thread my first year here (there) and I was telling all my real life friends about it and you made me look like a fool!

Coke and whores. That’s like the least complicated thing in the world.

Go easy, brah. OP has obviously suffered severe spinal trauma that prevents him from dragging his ass over to where the hot chicks are smoking, not to mention that cameras are huge, clumsy, and rare, and only highly-trained specialists can use one.

I can't tell if you're joking or just going full blown grandma here. The scammer doesn't have your password. Google isn't going to call you.
