Too many great movies to narrow down.  What a talent.

My favorite story about him is that he's shooting a movie with the great Maureen O'Hara (Only The Lonely).

He finds out she doesn't have her own dressing room and she's getting ready in a glorified closet.  She say's oh its fine. Its no big deal.  He tells whoever is in charge, "you fool,  this is Maureen O'hara, the Duke's Girl.  Get her a trailer."

She got a trailer.  Candy and O'hara are two of my all-time favorites.

thanks for the laughs john

Anybody here from Penthouse magazine?  No?  Then we ain't talking.

Armed and dangerous, and who’s Harry crumb? were as funny as any of them. Only the lonely was a damn good movie.

His best work was on SCTV.  Actually, SCTV may be the vest sketch comedy show ever.’

Best of Candy on SCTV:

I love Only the Lonely. Maureen O’Hara is a national treasure, John Candy was great, and I always thought Ally Sheedy was very sexy.

The Maureen O'Hara story is the first thing that pops in my mind about Candy. Not the great movies or characters, the genuinely nice guy he was.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles is my favorite of his. I also loved Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors & Delirious. Great cameo in Home Alone too.

Can’t believe it’s been 25 years already. He’s in so many movies that I love and watch regularly that it doesn’t seem as if he’s gone sometimes.

Yep. That and the bat scene

Roman is an A+ character

Loved him.  IMO, one of his most underrated scenes.   Jump!!  lol.

Long Live Johnny LaRue

Young adult when Belushi passed but losing Candy was worse, dude was ultra talented and funny.  I forgot all about the Maureen O'Hara story, great stuff.

"Well hop on in slim, LET'S SEE HOW FAST THIS SUMBITCH WILL GO!!!"

The racket ball scene in Splash was pretty good too.  Hard to pick a favorite.  Used to watch SCTV religiously in HS.  This one always cracks me up even though Candy didn't do much in it.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is still a movie I can watch no matter where it is when I see it on TV.   Just a great film.

“Well that’s not so bad...yeah I thought it would be a lot worse than this. They’ll be able to buff this out no problem. Oh yeah.”

I have an Uncle Buck. Same larger than life loser. Can’t look at him without thinking about John C. Always will cherish that movie (and his entire body of work).

He was a treasure. His cameo in JFK was such a tease about what he was capable of with an intense character. I'm one of those people who preferred Robin Williams in dramatic roles, and I feel similarly about John. PT&A and JFK gave us a glimpse about what he could do. He had so much more to give.

Russ Lasky is one of the greatest characters in movie history

He was so awesome. Can’t believe 25 years, damn.

Candy in Splash pretending to speak Swedish to gain access to the lab was a funny one.....”I have a 9” penis”.

My all time favorite comedic actor is John Candy and Uncle Buck being my favorite John Candy movie with PTA coming in 2nd but I celebrate all of his work. In college we used to constantly drop John Candy lines when we were high.

Nothing but Trouble is amazing when you are high.

Unlike Chris Farley, whom I also loved, I don't think you can find one person that has a negative thing to say or didn't enjoy John Candy.

Grade A soundtrack too.

I am in agreement 100%. When Candy got mad at Garrison (Costner) in the lunch scene. I actually felt like he must have had an unreported off screen incident with Costner that allowed him to generate that level of emotion. I, like most people at the time. Believed John Candy to be a comedic actor who was gifted with excellent timing, but lacked the chops to deliver dramatic lines in that way. And in hindsight I wish he would have lived long enough to have had the opportunity to see just how far he could have gone with it.

I also agree with you on Robin Williams. He gets a huge nod by most for Patch Adams. But, I remember him more for his role as Dr Cozy Carlisle in Dead Again. Maybe his demons helped him find the depth of the character that he was portraying. But the guy was simply amazing doing drama.

Robin studied drama at Juilliard under John Houseman. He had legit chops.

Had a commercial breach of contract case where the chick who played the townie girlfriend of John Candy's son in The Great Outdoors handled the matter for the other side.  She is a very good attorney who practices in Colorado.  I told her when the case was done how much I loved that movie.  She laughed and told me how much fun they had making that picture.
