Would love to watch Beto pivot and fully go scorched Earth on the GOP, Trump, and the NRA. If you’re gonna go down, go down swinging for the slain in El Paso.

I don’t ever remember our relationships with foreign allies being as strained, this kind of alignment with hostile foreign countries, having an authoritative leader, or this level of strain on the constitution, rule of law, and democratic bedrocks such as free press or election integrity.

1. our relationships with foreign allies being as strained -- somewhat true, the tariffs on Canada was a mind blowing event. But as long as trade keeps going, we're ok.

2. this kind of alignment with hostile foreign countries -- We're fighting China, no alignment there. Russia, true.  NK is just a show to get Lil Kim to come to terms. Anything else?

3. having an authoritative leader - true, but we have checks and balances, plus state, county and local politicians - so he's not God.

4. his level of strain on the constitution, - true , but doesn't really hit the average family, it's all paper fluff to the common man.

5. rule of law - true, but again this mainly on his cabal, doesn't affect the common man.

6. Free press is ok, i'm not seeing the damage.

7. election integrity -- that's corruption at local levels mostly, despite Russian collusion which was marginal.

Overall, America is doing very well for the average person, the DC scandals don't affect common people at all, so most don't care. Are there reasons to get off Trump, hell yes, but we are not in an emergency of facing the "greatest challenges" of our times.  It's salesmanship and political BS.

Beto is bullshitting (no surprise) about living memory.

the nazis were bad but they didn't have any real support here.  we've been gaslighted for 30+ years that the world isn't cooking itself and, if it is, it's not our fault and we can't do anything about it so we shouldn't bother trying.  half the population believes that.

America has faced tougher times. We have not faced tougher times as far as the electorate and how we treat each other. Trump is a symptom of a larger problem that Beto is trying to address.

Beto is going to fix America a retweet at a time. I tell my girlfriend that her "Liking" on Facebook world peace isn't going to result in world peace.

Someone should let Beto know that too.

I see many people took the bait.

Other than the traitor in the White House, the Nazi problem, the world literally melting, the gun violence issue, the government shutting down repeatedly, a broken Congress, the insane rising costs of living, stagnant wages, out of control spending, overt and rampant corruption, and the opioid crisis; we’re doing great!

Everyone has a job to pay off their student loans and medical bills.

So much winning.

and yet they were still shocked at the lack of sympathy they received here, particularly in the south.

edit: 25,000 dues paying members, they only claimed 200,000 supporters at their peak, and the whole thing fell apart after the leader was convicted of embezzling (of course he was, right wingers gon' grift) and nazi germany started invading other countries.  that's not significant support.  compare that to climate change and it's nothing.  you're making my point for me.

That is a very shallow criticism. Was Beto supposed to file a lawsuit like Abrams, even though no dramatic controversy existed that could have potentially swung the election in Texas? Does Beto not get credit for large voter registration program his campaign led during the election? People find the strangest things to get worked up over.

And here I thought the point was to elect a winner, not find the best loser.

Well that was done in order to get him elected so, no, of course not. Like Obama's massive organization that he let die as soon as it no longer benefited him as a candidate, I'd want to see Beto's machine do something other than try to get Beto elected before "giving him credit".

Bernie turned his 2016 campaign into Our Revolution, which continued the momentum and led to the election of budding left stars like AOC. Beto let all the momentum and enthusiasm of his movement wane while he found himself in the desert like a walking Gen X stereotype.

not wane so much that he didn't raise a fuckton of money and become a top tier contender as soon as he announced.

Again, I'm not talking about the self-serving part. Beto is great at focusing on himself and building his brand, no doubt.

ermahgerd, bertoinarstin!

How are some of y'all not already camped out at 9th & congress?  This is a curious move, ending the announcement tour in Austin rather than El Paso.  Shit, he had Leon Bridges at his last  one in Austin so I'll probably go.  Y'all can park at my office at 8th & Lavaca.  Who pays for street closures on something like this out of curiosity?

Focus on getting voters to turn out in local elections to turn Texas blue. Instead, he is trying to promote his own brand on a bigger stage.

It is not that Beto is a bad candidate but that his resume is very lite. That would be fine if Dems weren’t running so many other strong candidates. The presidential election has plenty of talent while Beto is getting front runner media status because....he is a white male and plays in a band?

Hell, Buttigieg has a deeper resume than Beto but doesn’t get as much media love.

I dunno, there’s something really American about Beto.  Gen Xer that lost his way and did all the Gen Xer stuff, found himself again, worked his ass off in a losing battle for Senate to only dust himself off, get back up, and run for President.

He’s a fighter.  We love fighters.

that second clip...he went straight after Trump,  directly quoting his policies and words without anger or condescension. if he makes it, and can do that sort of thing on stage directly to Trump's face, while he's huffing and making faces and throwing out petty insults... the contrast will be something to behold.

I may be wrong, but I really think we need that kind of level-headedness.

10 counties isn't the same as doing a pub crawl in the same city. New Hampshire is a small state, but is still a state. Some quick google map work shows that visiting all 10 counties is going to take around 300 miles of driving or more.

It’s a 400-mile round trip for the OU game, just for some perspective.

Interesting four states.

Good argument for why the electoral college needs to go.  How much more valuable is my vote if I lived in one of those states?  Astronomically more valuable.

Is a candidate less likely to visit Louisiana or some other solid partisan state without the electoral college?   Hell no.

Yeah, the "if the electoral college was abolished, candidates would ignore most of the states and only visit certain places" argument makes no sense, BECAUSE THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT FUCKING HAPPENS NOW.

Both the party primary systems and the EC reinforce white supremacy.

United States: 63% white

meanwhile...

Iowa: 91% white
New Hampshire: 94% white
Ohio: 79% white
Wisconsin: 86% white
Michigan: 75% white
Pennsylvania: 81% white

It's not a coincidence that the three frontrunners for the Democrats are likely to be three white guys once Biden jumps in and Beto has some more time to rise.

Imagine this instead...

South Carolina: 67% white
Georgia: 60% white
Nevada: 68% white
California: 61% white
New York: 69% white

Does anyone think it would still be 3 white guys almost guaranteed to be the frontrunners if THOSE were the first primaries?

[edit]

Since the world is just a stupid, repeating cycle, I remember furiously banging on about this exact thing in 2007 when I was shilling for Obama against the Clintonites (as I shilled for Bernie against the Clintonites and am shilling for the septugenarian sultan of socialism today).

Agree wholeheartedly. Will be hard to change as it's a major political power grab. A correct, just one. But a power shift nonetheless. I could see the Super Tuesday states on the whole being more critical this year but should move them up or figure out a way to deemphasis Iowa and NH.

I kinda wish we had a ranked balloting nationwide jungle primary system.

It would dramatically improve the choices in November.
