You know who else fell upwards their entire life?

Pretty much all our founding fathers and all the Roosevelts and Kennedys involved in American politics.

Point is, sometimes a life of privilege can produce people that take full advantage of that privilege to transcend society to a better and more egalitarian place.

Would love to watch Beto pivot and fully go scorched Earth on the GOP, Trump, and the NRA. If you’re gonna go down, go down swinging for the slain in El Paso.

Rich Man's Burden

The movements that have made this nation more egalitarian come from the will and power of the people at large and the mass movements they inspire, not the graciousness of our social and economic betters.

Fuck the god damned Kennedys. FDR was pretty cool, but fuck the Roosevelts as well.

A scathing article in CNN this morning about O'Rourke's spectacular decline in the polls as of late.  Curious to see how the mainstream media doesn't seem to understand that constantly talking about some's poll decline may result in a further decline.  All he needs to do to get back in the conversation is jump up on a deli countertop in New Hampshire, purposely get bonked in the head by a ceiling fan and proclaim, "I'm alright folks.  Trump probably thinks I'll get wind cancer from that thing, but I'm alright.  But I know America is not alright and that's why I'm here today..."

They absolutely know that's what happens.

Mainstream media is all owned by megacorporations who desperately want either Trump or Biden.

It’s why they keep pushing the “electability” bullshit and ramming Biden down our throats.

I don’t know if it will work but they’re doing a good job of fluffing Biden while pretending they are giving everyone else fair coverage.

Pete also gets the fluff treatment, seemingly because he's already shown a friendliness to the corporate money machine and has basically the same background as the executive managerial class.

He’s a privileged white male who married into a white billionaire family.  And he’s not even a socialist. He’s fucked in the modern left’s victim olympics.

In the latest poll from Quinnipiac university, O’Rourke is drawing a glum 5% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters. He is being outgunned on 10% by Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who has stolen much of his thunder.

“We’ve seen Mayor Pete take the lad in the newcomer department,” said Quinnipiac’s Peter Brown who predicted worse to come. “We’ve got 18 months to go and I bet there will be other fresh faces taking the spotlight.”

So what happens next to O’Rourke now that the spotlight has swung away from him? Can he complete the Houdini trick and make a reappearance? And if he can, what kind of potential president would he present to the American people?

Of course he'll ebb and flow in the next 18 months (well, probably 14 months or so for him personally, he's one of the few candidates who has the wealth to dip into when they need to remain relevant long after initial fundraising efforts have subsided.  He can't come back to run against Cornyn now without pissing off the Party.  But he does need to worry a great deal about how to exit the race the right way.  He'll be 47 then and basically a 2-term Congressman.  I've said for two years his best play was to run against Dan Patrick for Lt. Gov.  Sure that position doesn't sound glamorous outside Texas where people don't understand how powerful the position is or that Railroad Commission controls most of the nation's domestic oil.  But it would have been incredibly powerful for a Democrat to take down the far right's poster child in Dan Patrick.  It would have been such a big story once people outside Texas understood what it meant for somebody like Dan Patrick (who is just Trump without the hot ass or cool ties) to be cast aside from such a powerful position by O'Rourke and what it meant for the demographic shift at-large.

Anyway, he could still make an interesting VP nominee for somebody like Biden or Sanders.  None of the other serious candidates would benefit from O'Rourke balancing out their ticket and would seem him as redundant or threatening.

You think whitey Biden is going to pick whitey O'Rourke?  I believe the only chance O'Rourke had, for '20 PotUS, was to be on top of the ticket with a woman/minority on the VP side.  Whitey/Whitey won't get the turnout needed and Biden seems to be the clear front runner at this point if early polls are to be believed.

Being careful on the female part of the ticket is important for the misogynist minority voters as well.   Kamala is the VP choice to beat.

Creepy Joe Biden/Legs up Harris is your Democrat ticket for '20.

Bullshit. You're the old lady at McCain's stop declaring Obama's a muslim. You're the voice from the crowd in Trump's Florida stop last week calling for people to be executed at the border.

You fool no one.

If you want to make Texas interesting ,  pick someone that looks like the future of Texas like a castro Brother.   If you’re going to make the gambit,  go Hispanic

if you want to demonstrate that you think the future of Texas is a wealthy Irish guy who was a two term house member from El Paso ,  go with Congressman O’Rourke.

They’re not going to express that Texas is in play  with Beto.

I agree. George W. Bush is much worse for the Yale brand.

Of the two Yale dummies we're talking about, the only one I've voted for is W.

The only Houston district I've ever lived in is TX-7.

What a filthy mouth.

I love her.

Anybody have the data on how Beto did in all those red rural counties he kept trying to court vs Obama or Hillary? I remember post-election there were some numbers floating around here.

Beto is sorry again and still has a lot to learn.

This dude is constantly saying he needs to learn shit. Why the fuck do you think you should be the President of the United States if you're constantly having to learn shit that is apparently obvious to others? When was the last time Mayor Pete had to issue an apology? Never because Mayor Pete isn't a dipshit like Beto.

Beto is a terrible candidate and by terrible, I mean he fucking sucks. Dude is way out of his league.

Agreed. His campaign has been a disaster so far.

Yep, I proudly voted for him for senate, because Cruz is a cuckold, but I'm not even considering him as my choice for Dem nominee.

There's a place for him in this race but he hasn't quite figured it out yet. Wasted a lot of the enthusiasm from the beginning but I wouldn't write him off yet.

Kind of wishing he was running against Cornyn though. Really wish he was the Junior Senator from Texas today.

He did OK.

Slightly better overall than other Dems who didn't make the effort.

Pretty much this.

I think Beto is probably a better general election POTUS candidate than VP candidate. He won't put Texas at play as VP. He's redundant to another white male. And he won't calm the midwestern honkies down as a VP to a nonwhite and/or female candidate. Would be shocked if anyone picks him as VP.

So what will Congressman O'Rourke do after 2019 then?  4 more years until another Senate spot is up.  Governor?

He has no path forward unless he stumbles into some fortuitous viral moment of the year.

Stay in the race and try and get enough support to parlay it into a position with the next administration seems to be his best option at the moment.

glad we won't have to be bombarded with Beto 2 - Electric Boogaloo - he is a moron.  Harris is the smart one in the group.  If I were a Dem I'd be pushing for her.

I absolutely agree.  He would certainly make a good pick for Sec. of Veterans Affairs.  I was merely positing the question, that if his campaign doesn't land him in the White House, what are other options for him at a relatively young political age?  Cabinet level perhaps.  Other thoughts?
