"The King of the Surf Guitar", and also a drinking buddy of my late uncle.

RIP dude..

Was coming in to post this.
If you played some type of guitar that you plugged in somewhere in some rock band or another from 1960 through oh, 2019, you were influenced greatly by Dick Dale.  Period.

RIP to a giant, no a GIANT who everyone from George Harrison to Ike Turner to Jimi Hendrix to the guy who plays guitar for Hanson gave huge respect props to.

RIP.  Scanned this bio at wikipedia.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Dale

Interesting factoids:  he was Lebanese and the surf sound derived from Arabic music.  And he pushed Fender to make amps go to 11 (over 100W!!!!111!).

Also says he kept playing to pay medical bills.

I guess maybe the revelation that surf guitar is of Arabic origin is a blinding glimpse of the obvious.  Uncharacteristically for me, I had never looked up the origin of the word "misirlou."

He was ripping it up til the very end. I want to say he was at the Continental Club here in Houston like 2 months ago.
