The bigger story to me here is the chyron. Good lord.

There is zero difference between Fox News and Russian state news.  Seriously, look at the shit they’re saying.  It’s identical.

I like to think I can relate to human beings in a peaceful way. I listen to folks every single day and sometimes I feel too much of people’s pain and suffering. My main mission in life is helping others on the road we all travel on and just listening to folks. I feel empathy for the people who are really going through it in life. I have studied enough history to know how being the opposite turns out for those who want to willingly do harm to others.

With that said, the cretins at fox are scum. They are absolutely, positively the worst of the worst in our country. Day after day after pitiful day these traitorous clowns weaponize the masses with blatant lies and disinformation. To say I wish the worst upon them and anyone in their orbit is an understatement. How many of those 77 millions idiots that voted for the most hateful person to ever be our president watch the nightly propaganda shows? How many of them got brainwashed by that channel? Dwight Eisenhower is rolling over in his grave right now.

I do not feel bad for the people that voted for that moron. They will get what’s coming to them. However, the greater sin is these scumbags leading people astray with lie after verifiable lie. They took many of our parents, brothers, sisters, friends and associates and completely brainwashed them with nothing but lies and telling them this orange buffoon is the only one that can save the country. I will forever be upset for what they did and there are not enough bad things that can happen to them to make up for the damage they have caused to the country and the world as a whole.

My whole fucking family. It’s like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. They’re all pod people now. Even my mom. She watched some tv when I was a kid but not much. She used to refer to it as “the instrument of the devil.” Now she’s a Fox News junkie. (Or Newsmax when FN doesn’t provide the fix she craves.) I tried to get her to watch other sources of information. I told her to watch PBS News Hour. She tried it. She said it was “boring.” (You’re not supposed to find the news entertaining, Mom.)

She doesn’t want information. She wants affirmation. She doesn’t care if they lie to her. She wants them to tell her what she wants to hear. She’s an addict.

The youngs aren’t much better apparently.  I’m not sure why we expected a generation raised on social media to be critical thinking, compassionate people though.

exactly, that's why gen-x will save everyone. when we get around to it.

Critical thinking….no. But compassion for others comes in all different forms.

If Huey Long and Edwin Edwards were alive today, they would take what Watters said as a personal insult.

That might be the absolute dumbest thing ever said on Fox News. I am speechless.

We live in a timeline where the GQP is holding up Louisiana as the gold standard for non-corruption and waste.

What a time to be alive.

Thread title should change. "Fox News Worked"

There was only ever one reason this network existed. Anyone that watches that shit and doesn't immediately realize it is clearly stealing air.

Greenland purchase proposal by Eisenhower in the 1800s?

Invade Canada?

Louisiana the model of honesty and transparency?

Sad part is I will hear all these talking points from my inlaws this weekend. I have just started telling them that what they say is the stupidest shit I have heard since I last spoke with them. They are so gd dumb they don't even react. They just keep spewing whatever they heard that week. 20 years in and I honestly don't give a fuck what they think of me anymore.

When I was a little kid and heard about corrupt governments/officials in the world, my naive, uniformed self thought, at least there is no corruption in the US...well except for in Louisiana. No joke.

Dystopian books we had to read in school like 1984 always seemed so weird to me at the time.

Doublethink and Newspeak seemed like ridiculous concepts. How would that even work? How can you get society to accept conflicting ideas as both true? How can we dumb shit down so much that absolute falsehoods can be accepted at face value? That can’t happen.

But here we fucking are…..

Indeed @Brisketexan

What a time to be alive.

yeah, well, who's laughing now!?

That could just as easily say 'Titkok sluts down in the U.S.'

(and on some websites it does)

As someone with a significant portion of family from Louisiana, I can assure you they are quite proud of their history of corruption. Huey Long is a gotdamn treasure.

I think every MAGA in Louisiana even did a double take on that.

Jesse Watters has replaced Tucker Carlson in the Needs His Ass Kicked the Most rankings.

He’s lasted on there longer than I imagined, figured some sexual harassment charge or just low ratings would’ve done him in by now.

honestly this is the playbook since Jan 1993 with Rush Limbaugh holding down the fort before Fox News was even off the ground. It accelerated with Fox dominating the mainstream broadcast news industry in the decades since.

He probably needed a sexual harassment charge to get the job interview in the first place.

Fantastic NY Times story. SIAP.  I don't understand all of the stuff about trusts etc ... That's way above my paygrade. But if it results in the dissolution of the Murdoch media empire, I'm all for it.

Wife and I never watched succession and are binging it now and your reference was the episode we watched last night.

That article is so good.  It's also a terrifying further acknowledgement that these people (all of them) exist on a different plane than the populace.  The idea that they (or anyone else in the truly-rich elite and those they politically support) have any clue what it's like to be a farmer in Nebraska, a single mother in Virginia, or even a (mere) millionaire doctor in Vermont is farce.

We and they are a different species.  We, the people, may as well be an ant-farm sitting on a shelf to them.

There are the grifters and the grifted.

  • Popular Post

Nah.  That's putting it far too simply.

Murdoch will be dead soon. It's not simply about grift to him and people in this sphere.  For people two and three notches down, like Barr and some of the folks in their orbit, sure.  For him, and the tech bros, and the hedge fund managers, It's a world view, which is devoid of any understanding (and therefore empathy) towards us.

Shortly after my wife and I got married, we traveled to Uganda as part of an aid group.  We went to the poorest district in the country, and then we went to the poorest family in the district- which was an orphaned teen-aged girl and her 3 much younger siblings living in a half roofed mud hut, their clothes literally falling off of them. We, of course, did have deep sympathy, and some of us immediately started to speculate on what they needed, or how we could help them directly, right there immediately.  Our hosts, however, quickly brought us to the reality that our experience was simply too far removed from theirs as to presume that we had any real understanding how to help them in any meaningful, sustained way.  Of course the aid organization we were there supporting was much closer to the ground, and therefore better placed to assist.  But us? Nope.

I tell that story because it occurs to me that the gap between the mega billionaires and us is actually greater than the gap between us and that family in Uganda.  At least we were close enough in our shared experience to share sympathy, if not true empathy.
