March 21, 20196 yr Just took in a dog off the street and in the course of getting its shots and tests it was revealed that she has heartworms. I'm dealing with a animal shelter and their quote for treatment was $425. That's not going to break the bank, but does anyone have a cheaper solution?
March 21, 20196 yr In all seriousness I have not had to deal with heart worms but have spent a fortune on infections the past 18 months. Good on you for taking him in Edited March 21, 20196 yr by Archer
March 21, 20196 yr Is it slow kill or fast kill? Slow being antibiotics for a long duration, fast being the injections for a couple months where the dog can't be active at all. We've done both multiple times and that isn't a terrible price either way.
March 21, 20196 yr We adopted a golden retriever a few years back and found out it had worms a few months later. We ended up paying more than you mentioned. I can't remember exact amount but I am thinking 600-800 range. Biggest hassle was there is a window of the treatment where you are supposed to keep the dog calm ( no running / jumping, etc.) so that the worms don't dislodge and cause a stroke or something like that. 3 or 4 years post treatment now and all is A-OK. Good luck!!
March 21, 20196 yr I believe my wife paid $1000+ for treatment for her "heartworm-light" schnauzer terrier a few years ago. Sounds like you're getting a deal.
