I like how Looch continues to say Harmon is the #1 DB in Texas.  Its as good as saying the 2019 class finished #3.

Looch is really going to have a good time saying Burris was a huge win over OU and Texas.

Aggie 247 / Brian Perroni / With Daniels on board, who could be the next Texas A&M commits?

(The thread I referred to, in the post above).

With Daniels on board, who could be the next Texas A&M commits?
BRIAN PERRONI

Texas A&M added its 13th commitment of the 2021 recruiting class on Saturday evening as four-star Beggs, Okla., safety Kendal Daniels announced for the Aggies.

The highest-ranked prospect in the state of Oklahoma, Daniels is the fourth commitment in the secondary for the Aggies, with three of those coming in the past month.

With two of the members currently on the 2020 commitment list counting toward the 2021 numbers, that means there are 10 more spots available in the current class.

So, who would be the next to take one those spots?

Here are the top five candidates.

FORT WASHINGTON (MD.) NATIONAL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY DE MONKELL GOODWINE

(Photo: 247Sports)

Monkell Goodwine is planning to announce his commitment two weeks from today on Aug. 15. Texas A&M is one of his five finalists but he has long had a top two of A&M and Alabama.

For a while, it looked like the Tide were going to target a few other players instead. However, that has now changed and he is a take for Nick Saban and Co.

A couple weeks ago, it looked like A&M was going to be the destination and he would join former teammate Joshuah Moten in Aggieland. Now, though, Alabama seems more likely.

However, Goodwine has said he is still open to hearing schools’ final pitches with his decision date approaching and he is a kid that changes his mind frequently, so A&M is not out of the question.

MIAMI (FLA.) CENTRAL RB AMARI DANIELS

(Photo: Brian Perroni, 247Sports)

A&M still looks likely to take two running backs in the class, one between-the-tackles guy and an all-purpose runner. Amari Daniels fits in the latter category.

The 5-foot-8, 200-pounder has a top five but his is more like a top two as well with A&M and local school Miami being the two programs standing out the most to him. The Aggies have positioned themselves well but the Canes have been hot as of late and are doing a pretty good job of keeping the local talent home.

Daniels has been to Aggieland before as he camped there last summer. He also really likes the coaches and the offense. Jimbo Fisher has turned two former Miami Central running backs into All-Americans before as well.

Though he does not have an exact date, Daniels wants to announce at some point in August.

TEXARKANA PLEASANT GROVE DL MARCUS BURRIS

(Photo: Brian Perroni, 247Sports)

Marcus Burris looked like a very likely A&M commit for quite some time as he had the Aggies as a leader since last summer. However, he slowed things down a bit.

This spring, Oklahoma started to make a really big push and passed A&M up. He seemed to be on the verge of a commitment but again slowed things down.

Now, the 6-foot-4, 280-pounder has a top three of A&M, Oklahoma and Texas but it is really between the first two. The Aggies have done a good job getting back in it and there’s a chance that OU does not recruit him as hard going forward as there are some other targets.

Burris will miss his senior season with an Achilles injury but that does not concern A&M right. Ranked as the No. 101 prospect in the country, they like his size and athleticism and the fact he can play almost anywhere on the defensive line.

Burris wants to announce at some point in August and A&M is a very possible landing spot.

GRANDVIEW TE/DE DAMETRIOUS CROWNOVER

(Photo: Jeremy Clark , 247Sports)

Dametrious Crownover is ranked as a four-star tight end but is being recruited by schools as a jumbo athlete. He is being told either tight end or defensive end by pretty much everybody.

A&M simply likes his athleticism and wants to get him on campus and then decide. But, the 6-foot-6 rising senior is up to 275 pounds this summer, so defense is probably the best bet.

Crownover was already a fan of A&M even before his older brother Earnest committed to the Aggies as a junior college running back in the 2020 class. That only helped A&M’s changes.

The younger Crownover is in no hurry, though. He has a top five of A&M, Baylor, Nebraska, Ohio State and Texas. Baylor is picking up some momentum as his dad played there and the Bears are recruiting him for basketball as well. But, A&M is still in good shape, too.

Crownover wants to take official visits but, if the dead period keeps being extended, he could decide to shut it down earlier than expected.

PHILADELPHIA (PA.) IMHOTEP DT TALEEQ ROBBINS

(Photo: 247Sports)

The SEC is hitting up the city of Philadelphia hard in this class and Taleeq Robbins has a number of offers from teams in the conference. Most people believe he will end up somewhere in the SEC.

A&M has long been in good shape with him as he is close with area recruiter and position coach Elijah Robinson and is also good friends with Aggie cornerback commit Tyreek Chappell.

However, this one could come down a numbers deal and how the Aggies feel they stand with other targets as well. They really like the 6-foot-3, 300-pound Robbins, but there may not be room. He did receive a written offer early Saturday morning, though.

Robbins wants to announce at some point this month, so A&M needs to decide which way to go. Georgia and Ole Miss are involved as well.

It's a push actually. He's recovering from a serious injury, so not sure if he'll regain his pre-injury form.

This mean his transformation to a cube is all but complete if he chooses aggy?

1. Goodwine is choosing Bama unless he a receives a larger offer

2. Daniels is choosing Miami unless he receives a larger offer

3. Burris is choosing Aggy because OU told him they’d like to see him after his injury first (aka not commitable)

4. Crownover is choosing Aggy because they gave his brother a scholarship

5. Taleeq Robbins is choosing Aggy unless he receives a better offer.

A few more failed crossbar dunks and he'll get the memo. Schmitty is going to love this kid, all his best practices will be used and this kid fits the profile to just eat all of it.

This can’t be a real quote, can it? Holy shit that’s hilarious. aggy really is all in on the “we’ll pay you whatever you want and play you wherever you want, please just commit to us. We beg you!” recruiting strategy. They’re gonna have so much attrition every single year.

On the very day he committed, he basically just said, “I’m committed to A&M right now but I don’t really what to go there and I’ll ditch them for a better offer in a second. “

I don't believe this kid.  Looch said this was a straight up win against 3 CFP teams in OU, Clemson, and LSU.  REAL RECRUITING.

It's legit. I just read the story in The Oklahoman. It's an article by the guy that covers high school sports for that paper. Besides the quote above, he later says in the story that OU called him and said "they filled up on commitments".

PAC 12 players release a list of demands

I'll have some thoughts on this tomorrow on radio. It's borderline insane and the lemming media will laud it as "college athletes finally recognizing and wielding their power!"

There are obviously lawyers, agents or perhaps even an entity like The Players Tribune who stand for benefit a great deal from all of this and they're hiding behind 'what's right for the athlete,' the demands are reasonable and logical in some cases but then go completely off the rails in some instances as whoever is leading this charge decided to go for the full grab at once.

What I'm talking about are things like 50% of the revenue, athletes being able to be represented professionally while in college, entering the draft and returning to school and demanding ADs, coaches and the conference commissioner make less money.

It's actual lunacy.

Half of the REVENUE? How about start by being only wildly unrealistic and not insanely unrealistic and ask for half of the PROFIT instead??? Then, since you're claiming half the profit, share in the expense. Pay for school, lodging, meals and every pair of shoe, all the gear, etc. Then divvy up half the profit amongst the entire sport as you suggested. Not sure how every athlete would end up paying back but it would be substantial amount.

More to talk about tomorrow but I can't see how the Pac 12 doesn't say "this is absolutely absurd outside of the Co-Vid, NIL and racial equality concerns." Will be interesting to see if they can negotiate out the unreasonable and come to a conclusion before the rapidly-approaching season.

Here's my prediction: They will and this media parade of national folks tripping all over themselves for some Sunday twitter glory will find another "college sports are done as we know it" storyline to push.

And FWIW I absolutely think they need to figure out how to better compensate college athletes. But this isn't it. They're

Someone should tell Susan that NBA players share is 50% of revenue.

NFL players get 48% of revenue.

MLB players get ~44% of revenue (this was in the high 50's in the early 2000's).

Asking for 50% isn't out of line with the pro sports leagues.

So will they be doing away with the athletic scholarship model, and let these athletes pay for school with this money?

Ok.

The point is that Lucci seems to think its ridiculous to look at revenue as a starting point in negotiations - when in fact thats exactly what the pro sports leagues use.  You've have to be an idiot (or a bad hollywood agent) to structure your negotiations/contract around profit.

Ahem. Pretty sure Billy Bailout is no idiot.

Sounds logical to me.

Ha, this is a great article by Tarp. Some prescient quotes.

Quote

"Based on our season ticket sales, all season ticket holders who have a ticket as of today would be accommodated in that plan, but we would have to reduce the number of students" said Bjork. "Normally we sell about 34,000 student tickets per season, all sports passes, but we would have to reduce that down. But right now, we would be able to accommodate all of our season ticket holders. And as big as Kyle Field is, the capacity is actually more than what the number of seats is with the concourses and the club spaces and the capacity gets to a little bit over 110,000 for spectators, even though we only have 102,733 seats. So our normal operating capacity gets us to a point where we have plenty of room to accommodate season ticket holders, and then we will have to reduce the student number."

Other college programs expect to have even more drastic cuts in attendance. Texas has stated that the school expects to operate its facility at 25% capacity for the 2020 football season.  Ohio State plans to cap its attendance at 20% of capacity for this year.

You have a similar look in the NFL where so far teams have either said that there will be no fans in attendance or that the number allowed in will barely reach five digits (with capacity in some instances based on local guidelines). Even the Dallas Cowboys (which are operating under the same attendance guidelines as A&M) have stated that season tickets will not be available in 2020 and that seating at AT&T Stadium will be "limited".

So what does A&M know that the NFL or other college teams don't? It's really hard to say.

Of course, face masks will be mandatory for attendees but how difficult will distancing be?  As an example, the New England Patriots made an announcement that “Ticketed parties will be asked to maintain physical distancing of at least six feet from other parties, tickets will be arranged in blocks of 10 seats or less, and the first eight rows of stadium seats will not be used".

In addition, Bjork noted that those college programs currently can't bring invite prospects for official until the end of August and that he expects this prohibition to be extended into the ball.

Thus, if it's difficult to bring in a family of four to your campus, how is anyone going to be able to accommodate 50,000 people?

Getting football back should be feasible given the safeguards that have been put in place and if everyone figures out what's at stake.

Anything beyond that may be much more problematic and it will be interesting to see next week how A&M plans to handle things
