I want Alvarez hitting between brantley and correa for protection.  my only concern is hitting 2 LH back to back in the middle part but brantley can fucking hit anything. i would like alvarez hitting correa because if he hits sixth, you can pitch more careful around him to get to chorizo/yuli. you wouldnt pitch around alvaraez to get to correa

all of this.

remember, yordan hit lefties better than righties in milb.

and i like reddick hitting 9.

this is my preferred lineup for the 45 seconds that our entire team is healthy at the same time.  vs righties or lefties.

Yuli hitting behind Alvarez has worked out pretty good so far

that's because he has tyler white protecting him!

Alex Bregman

Tyler White

?

crazy and historic what this 21 year old dude is doing.  my goodness.  Will be interesting to see the moves they make when Springer and Corlabia return.

i've been saying for over a month that bregman has very quietly been struggling.

he hits a homer here and there so his counting numbers have stayed solid, but he's a shell of who he should be.

i can only assume it's tough to take all the weight considering the injuries.

we're halfway thru the season and while he's on pace for 42 and 102, he currently has 10 doubles and no triples.  last year he had 51 doubles.

Lots of infield/shallow outfield pop-ups. I feel like he is chasing more elevated fastballs than last year. You can definitely tell he is frustrated with himself.

Altuve and Bregman have half a season to find their swing, both are struggling

Bregman has a gf I bet, I’ll blame her for his downfall

Yeah it feels like he's not quite right.

But, compared to his career norms...his strikeout rate is normal; his walk rate is up; his line drive/ground ball/fly ball rates are normal. His infield fly rate is in between last year and 2017. His hard-hit rate is normal. Yet his BABIP is .235.

It is tough to tell from the numbers what his struggles may be attributable to, though I could be missing something...I'll assume it is bad luck for now.

Radio guys have discussed that Bregman has been watching video like a mad man, going over at bats as far back as his days in the minors even

yeah, it's strange.  because his eye has gotten so good, that you'd think he'd only swing when (a) it's a strike and (b) it's a pitch he can do something with.

assuming that's true, maybe he has some kink in his swing.  hope so, because that's fixable.

with others (cough, altuve) when they're slumping, you can tell it's about pitch selection (they're letting good pitches sail by, while offering at garbage in the dirt).

the ultimate hope is that a guy like bregman, who is young but has fully grasped how much of a leader he is, is just trying to do too much and hit homers every time up, because he knows what the back-end of the lineup looks like right now.  get springer back and hopefully things get knocked back into place.

I feel like several doubles from last year are homers this year, but he is on track for similar number of total extra base hits. Wonder if launch angle stats show an elevation for Bregman this year. I agree that he is struggling right now.

Looking just at June - he's hitting more ground balls and his hard-contact rate is down, and he's pulling the ball more frequently.

similar pace, but still fewer xbh (31 right now, 83 last year).  if he had 62, that would be a pretty severe dropoff (25%).

and on base for fewer hits overall, obviously, since he's hitting .259 (he hit .286 last year).

and for all his walks, his obp is down from last year.  and for all his homers, his slg is down from last year.

both are close, but still down, when most of us projected a huge year.

Interesting.
Like one of the earlier posts, I see a lot weak pop-ups on the infield/ shallow outfield.

Was hoping it’s an easy swing angle issue he needs to adjust and be himself again.

The BB/K numbers are still solid (19 BBs vs 10 Ks in June).

you’ve had no Altuve/Springer/Correa for June and “half” of Bregman. So basically your four best bats the last two years. Team record in June: 11-10

High times, friends.

I can't believe no one has suggested trading Bregman on this page yet.

I think there are a couple of guys--Altuve, for instance--who would benefit from driving a few balls the other way right now.

If it’s good enough for Tyler White...!

Call your record between now and All-Star break.

Managed to play .500 ball so far in June even with all the struggles of the last trip.

Now finish up the first half with 9 games against sub-.500 teams + a quick 2 game trip to Coors.

I’ll take 8-3 on the strength of:

-9 of the 11 at home

-getting Springer and McHugh back

-5 of those 11 games should have JV/Cole toeing the rubber to start the game.

Quick prospect update.
Hopefully Bielak is starting to find it at AAA.
After a disastrous first few outings at that level, he’s gone 13.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 4 BBs, 14Ks in his last two starts.
(Including 7 IP of 1 hit ball (and 9 Ks) today.)

Cant trade alex to huge of a contract. Theyd need to dfa. Then hive tyler a 15 year contract

Since it's an off day, you can watch our 3rd round pick Jordan Brewer playing RF and batting 3rd for Michigan in Game 1 of the CWS final.  He just hit an rbi double in the top of the 1st.  It would have been a triple but he tripped rounding 2nd base.  It's good he had something to work on.

He just beat out a routine looking grounder to short but looks like it's going to be overturned on replay.  Still, it seems like he's pretty fast.

Brewer just gunned down a guy trying to go 1st to 3rd.  I'm liking this kid.  We might be good at drafting.

Astros have accepted the return of Rule-5 draft selection RHP Riley Ferrell from the Miami Marlins. Ferrell has been outrighted off the 40-man roster and will be assigned to Double A Corpus Christi.

We piss excellence and the Marlins still manage to fuck it up.

I’m glad to have him back.

Josh Rojas has been one of the most exciting players in our system this season. He’s not young, but he has a great amount of defensive flexibility and is hitting well in Round Rock. Will be interesting to see when he gets a shot in Houston.

That or he could make an interesting piece in a trade.

Hopefully all these trade pieces add up to something good

I don’t even remember who we traded away for  Verlander

Pitcher Franklin Perez ( who was doing well at AA for us) has pitched 7.2 innings this season before going on the IL a couple days ago. He is rated as Detroit's #3 prospect by MLB.com Catcher Jake Rogers hit .302 at AA this year, but has hit .193 since getting promoted to AAA. He is rated as their #12 prospect. Daz Cameron was a former comp 1st round pick for Houston who has spent all year at AAA with a batting average of .213. He is rated as their #5 prospect.

eh, still seems worth it.

I would do it 100/100 even if one of them was doing crazy good for Detroit. Also, I forgot how big of an overslot deal Daz was until searching his name to look at his minor league stats.
