1. urquidy is locked in. opportunities for the young arms, even if a trade is made. bp is taxed, him going 7 last night is huge

2. peacock - out until mid august. mri was good but he's feeling discomfort. astros are shutting him down. fuuuuuuuuck

3. t wizzle - 'it was tough'

4. diaz - full work out today, not playing. he's coming back monday or wednesday. tough roster decisions. looking forward to 3 cubans in the middle of the line up and watching all 3 hitting hr's

Luhnow:

Peacock: shut him down for a few days; MRI’s looks fine; probably won’t be back this month; realistically mid-August

White: hard having the DFA conversation with him. End of a big chapter in his life and Astros life. Probably wasn’t getting drafted if we didn’t take him. Hard to say goodbye. May not be permanent (hope it is meaning he’ll get picked up somewhere else). But way the rules work re: options, it is what it is.

Diaz: Tomorrow would be soonest he could be activated. Will be tomorrow, or Wednesday depending how sore he is after the game today. Looking forward to having 3 Cubans in the middle of the lineup.

Trade deadline:

On scouting pitching, how important are most recent starts? For us not a big deal. We’re “at” all those games anyway capturing information. A lot of lines in the water, but teams are hesitant to make sure they get best deal and the only thing triggering it is the deadline.

How many trades should we expect?: Somewhere between 1 or 2.

Whitley: Walked 4 guys the other day, not 6. He was working on a few things. Next step is to go to a full season squad by end of month.

Splitting Cole and JV after the break. But any coincidence having Cole, JV and Miley all scheduled against A’s? Hinch would neither confirm nor deny

Trading for a catcher: looking at it. Stassi is out of options so he goes if we bring one in. Stassi is part of future plans, so we’d have to consider that. Talked about Maldonado, but traded last week. We’ll still have opportunity to claim DFAs after July 31

Bukauskas: He’s been inconsistent but a little better lately; wouldn’t mind brining him up to AAA near the end of the season. Happy with progress after slow start

5. trade deadline - looking at many options. astros rarely live scout before trade deadline. they've been collecting for a much longer period. teams are hesitant still, lot of shopping going on. we have a complete team right now. looking at multiple deals but lot has to happen to get stuff done.

6. whitley - still on IL. he walked 4 guys, not 6. he was working on specific 'things'. he'll be back on a roster by end of month. sounds like he's not going back to AAA.

7. A's are playing great baseball, work cut out for us.

8. catcher - stassi is part of the future plans. fuuuuuuuuuuck still looking at options but stassi is out of options

9. boukakis - should be on AAA roster to end the season. improved consistency. whitely and martin setbacks this season, not good

the peacock news is huge

Yeah Peacock was the only thing of substance.
A 3 man rotation is gonna suck for a couple of more weeks.

I don’t see Luhnow letting teams hold that over him to get a deal done sooner.

Maybe they start considering stretching out James and McHugh

James is seen as a huge BP asset, imo he's staying in the BP

perez / rogers / sneed / deetz all about to get some starts / looks is my guess

Are we witnessing the beginning of the end of Julia Morales?

day off before and after the cardinals series will help with the lack of starting pitchers

Are we witnessing the beginning of the end of Julia Morales?
Nope. Same thing as last year with bart. They rotate job duties

reddick is a master RF and that's why tucker is blocked

Tucker didn’t get blocked.  He got passed.  Now he’s blocked.  Oh well.

true, true. he had his shot last season and was overwhelmed.

Breaking news: Joey Gallo is 1 for his last 20 and may not actually be an MVP candidate.

So, you're saying 29 of 30 GMs wouldn't take him over Altuve?

Love that little dude.  Nice to see his swing coming back into form.

Remember when Odor vs Altuve was almost a question?

Honestly, no

Altuve showed a little attitude on that blast.

That fucking bridge troll seems like a shitty second basemen.

Definitely a shitty hitter.

Lynn is lucky Yordan didn't get any lift on his two singles, or this would be a lot worse.  Everything he hits is scalded.

I haven't checked the numbers but I think Yordan leads the team in rbis now

Defenses are mostly concerned with self-defense when he’s up.

Last 2 fastballs were 90 & 92. That ain’t good

1.80 era for McHugh as a reliever tells you why he’s not getting another opp to start
