Option Tyler for the move, if someone claims him then that makes it easier to reset your roster

I’d rather enjoy winning 11/12 and let the front office resolve this “problem” over the next 3 months than fill a whole thread bitching about the whipping boy du jour.

Its going to work itself out.

And then there will be complaints about something else. (God forbid this team hit a 2-5 stretch again. And they will.)

Rinse/repeat.

This conversation is more about roster management than bitching about White.

Astros' DHs this year are hitting .197/.319/.262 with 1 HR and striking out 26% of the time. So they are basically putting out a National League lineup (with a pitcher hitting) in American League games. We are all glad they've been winning, but they are putting themselves at a disadvantage by having a hole in the lineup at a place that should be occupied by at least a  decent to good hitter.

The goal is to maximize your chance of winning every day; if we are going to have a guy in the everyday lineup who can't hit, hopefully he can add value elsewhere (Marisnick). Our best lineup thus far has had Marisnick in CF and one of the other OFs at DH.

White has performed better than this in the past, and he's only had 40 PAs. So the interesting question/conversation becomes: how does the team balance maximizing its chance of winning each day and being patient with White, who offers no value to the roster if he doesn't start hitting?

I have no clue, but how many contending teams have a dedicated DH (think Big Poppi) vs those who use the DH like the Astros (a utility, part time fielder, part time rest for regulars, etc..).  A better way to say it would be, Who spends over 10 mill a year on a dedicated, every day DH?

Eh. That’s an actual conversation. And YOUR previous post was actually about that, to your credit. That’s fine.

Most of it is just bitching about White.

I wouldn’t say no value.  He would be useful as the anchor in a tug of war contest and would also be good ballast on a boat with an uneven cargo.  Finally, we got to see Princess Leia wearing that bikini when she strangled him in Return of the Jedi.

Unless he is JD Martinez, or Nelson Cruz of a few years ago, you probably shouldn't. But a roster spot is currently being used on Tyler White only because he (presumably) can hit.

I'm with you - I'm good with a guy who can add some defensive flexibility rather than a DH-only; but you still have a DH spot in the lineup every day, and you have to fill it with a capable hitter. That's why our best lineup so far is Marisnick in CF (because he upgrades the defense) and either Springer/Brantley/Reddick in the DH spot. So far, White adds nothing.

It gets frustrating because we've had a string of guys (Singleton, Reed, perhaps Fisher and White) that seem like quad-A types. Tucker and Alvarez are up next, maybe not in that order.

Oh and of course JD Davis is looking like he's putting it together for the Mets. We really need to stop getting rid of guys named JD. (Yes I know it is a very small sample size.)

We need a whipping boy and so far this season it’s White. He’s only been the DH in 7 games and I’m pretty sure our record is pretty good in those. I like the way AJ is using players with pseudo days off as the DH. It minimizes the effect of his suckage.

just catching up, and agree with all the white bashing.  our lineup is much better the way it's set tonight.

if we're gonna use up a roster spot on someone like white, i would prefer to dfa white and sign gattis off the street.

dude had 25 homers and 78 rbi last year.  even when white is going well, he's not a power hitter.

he's not even some lefty who destroys righties (those guys exist too).

Cole has been all sorts of mixed up here

Cole throwing a lot of pitches. Hope the bullpen is ready

Cole obviously doesn't have it tonight
None of them seem to

Damn, 109 mph on that double for Correa.  He needs to start elevating some balls

I was going to guess peacock will be first up but he’s starting on Monday

It's gonna be fun when we come from 5 down to beat Arlington.

Maybe we send down Gerrit?
