March 29, 20196 yr https://kristv.com/news/local-news/2019/03/28/port-commission-approves-lease-for-harbor-island-oil-terminal/ What does this really mean for Port Aransas and the surrounding ecosystem? Why not just have an offshore site to fill VLCC?
March 29, 20196 yr Look at the old aerial imagery of harbor island on google earth. I’d guess that while there is probably room for ecological improvement, any industrial redevelopment of harbor island would probably not subject it to any more harm than it has/ or currently is still experiencing.
March 29, 20196 yr Yeah, a lot of people down here are extremely pissed about it. I just don’t see it. People don’t come here for the channel view of the fucking ferry landing and the harbor island site.
March 29, 20196 yr Author Yea, posted because been hearing rumblings from friends /family that live on the island. Thought maybe I was missing something, seems to me it would be quite the boom to the region and only real blight would be tanks and spoil from dredging. They also bitching about plans for a desalination plant on harbor island, that I can more understand their gripes because of effluent ito bays/gulf.

Rockport-Aransas Pass-Port A chambers of commerce don’t want the area to look like Pasadena or deer park. But it seems like the most logical place to pump crude out of Texas. I assume some pipelines to CC harbor already exist. And while the chance is probably low for an accident, a major spill would be devastating to the bays.
