Another classic.  “Amateur sketch.”

Okay Richard Dawkins, they existed prior to Bulletin Board Systems, true.

However, I'll wager only people that read your book and super nerds like me had a clue what they were prior to 2000.

You callin' me a nerd? Meanwhile, I appreciate the ironic reality that so many people have learned the word meme in its current context, but don't actually know what the word means... the meme through which they acquired this knowledge is a perfect example of what Dawkins initially coined the term to explain.

Elf Bowling. Wasted many hours at work on those NStorm games.

I was going to win this thread by dropping one of the Vince Young highlight clips from jcdenton40's page, but, alas, 'tis no more.

There are several on the YouTubes, but the specific one I sought featured Vince making many a fool to the "Little Less Conversation" remix.

Much fake rep (well, at least 1 pt) to anyone who can produce that.

Ryan's is a staple of Indiana dining, and I've never met a person who had a bad experience there.

I miss that page too.

Billy Bob's Longhorn page was the tits as well.  It was like a longhorn themed Drudge.

TV but I repped it anyway cuz it's hilarious.

What stroll down virtual memory lane would be complete without one of those ubiquitous Downfall parodies? Most of the originals were taken down courtesy of some bullshit copyright strikes (parody is protected speech), but this one survived.

Sound on, obviously.

*shit, sorry, already posted here.

**not that sorry, because it's always funny.

The first time I saw these was at like 3am when I was mega hungover and in a weird mental state and I both respected and was terrified of this. The music and such harkens me back.

Always loved how he went from bully to victim in about 60 seconds.

"Say it again!"

...

"Bring amber lamps."

This thread needs more Geocities pages

I am not going to put the one up my college roommate made for our house as I don’t want to dox myself or my college roommates. It was an angelfire page...and it was awesome.

I feel like everything in this thread is way too recent to be considered nostalgia.

That's not what I mean. The zenith of the good old days of the interwebs was like 1995. This is all new shit.

Hmm, I don’t know. I would move that to about 1999. In 1995 the World Wide Web only had graphic browsing for like 2 years or so if I remember correctly.

Damn right it did.

I can meet in the middle and say 1995 to 1999 though.

I just don’t think 2-3 years is enough time to get to the zenith. Assuming the decline immediately follows, I am sticking to 1999.

I see your issue. You seem to be mistaken that graphic browsing started the golden era of the internet.

Well, not exactly. I started on BBS’s, so my experience predates graphic browsing. But I feel that without graphics it’s hard to hit the zenith. I mean, I know we all wish we could go pick up chicks on mIRC, but...

It was all downhill after trading nudes on Compuserve and AOL chats.

I met the first girl that I ever fingerbanged on AOL. She was actually attractive.

I had one married chick who met up. Then she told me she wanted me to watch her get banged by a dog and I had to disappear with a quickness.

This shit right here. Straight to my veins.

That's right, fire up Netscape Navigator, launch your favorite WYSIWYG editor, and get started on your masterpiece. Don't forget to include complementary hitcounters, guest books, and buttons made from poorly animated-yet-heavily pixelated graphics. Use as many fonts as possible, and be sure to frequently change color and size with no apparent reason.

PRO TIP: Use flashing text and MIDI beeps.

Anyway, I disagree that the Internet peaked in 1995. Since its true purpose is obviously to store and disseminate porn, one could argue that it is always improving and has yet to reach acme.

Still, there was something frustratingly charming about logging on to AOL/C-Serve/Prodigy, etc., and arguing with some stranger in Atlanta about how much dick Prime Time sucks. Or connecting to a BBS with a 2400-baud modem and trying to download a 1.5-meg scan of some Penthouse Pet before the 30-minute timer expired (can't be done). Or looting a Tevix Bahn and descending to the third level of Operation Overkill only to have the server disconnect you in the middle of a fight, forcing you to start from scratch (again) the next time.

Many ladies prefer doggie, but that's taking it a tad far.

I went back to college in '96 and finished my degree in '98 so this is the time frame where I first got exposed to the wonders that are Al Gore's vision. AOL chat rooms were all the rage and I and a buddy would telnet to the Fox Sports chats to mess around. Good times.
