I’m somewhat enjoying the new Goosebumps but as usual, those “kids” look like they’re starting 401ks and getting kicked off their parents’ insurance, not in high school

Justin Long is killing it

So even though a show has pg13 rating, when it’s a Disney made show I expect it to be kid friendly. I was a bit surprised with the number of times they said “sexy” and was very shocked they dropped the word porn.

But I am enjoying it, so are the kids, and I think most had gone over their heads

Some of the TV shows on Disney before Goosebumps made me re-think what Disney's age-appropriate ratings actually mean, which is amusing.  Maybe The Simpsons made them start to recalibrate everything.

Sorry to quote myself - but it was actually orgy. Still.

The Goosebumps series was written to traumatize kids. The ruse was to market them for kids.

My 5th grader has read all of the Percy Jackson books and the expanded series, and read them multiple times.  I haven’t.  He’s been ecstatic with the TV series so far, and I’ve enjoyed it, but holy shit, the obvious commercial breaks are annoying.  It’ll be on ABC at some point I guess.

The cast and pacing have been solid (and the cast has been age-appropriate unlike the movies) but Rick Riordan personally approved all of the cast/was involved with the casting, and he co-wrote the first two episodes, so it’s not surprising.

It’s great. I’m loving it. So much better than the movies that shall not ever be mentioned again

My kid:

Praising John Goodman GIF by The Righteous Gemstones

He loathed the movies and how much older they made everybody, and Rick Riordan has made his displeasure with them known.

I didn’t think about it, but I guess the commercial break parts are for Hulu, but Disney would be foolish not to run this on ABC at some point.  Like before season 2’s premier.

The books came out almost 20 years ago, and Disney was the only publisher who offered Riordan a deal (they wanted a Harry Potter) and they’ve been popular ever since, so they have a built-in audience.

If not ABC, Freeform or something

Weird seeing The Big Lebowski right there in the middle of all of the Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars cartoons and movies.

Wish will be out tomorrow.

I was really hoping they’d bring more stuff out of their vault from my childhood. I love seeing my kids faces as they try to understand how I’m the world I thought it was good television. Other than that we really seem to have no use for it.

All of the sudden everything streaming in 4k/HDR or whatever.  It's like I'm watching a soap opera...

You can usually turn that cinematic mode off in your tv settings.

Turn that shit off. It has a different name in the menu depending on TV brand

No, this is only happening thru the Disney app.  Everything else is fine.

HDR is awesome when it's done right.  I think it adds way more to the viewing experience than 4k over 1080p does.

If your TV is auto detecting HDR it can switch to that picture setting automatically (which may have motion flow turned on) that automatically switches back when viewing non HDR content. Check the motion setting when watching an HDR source.

It's not her or 4k, it's the refresh rate, look for settings like true motion, auto motion plus or something. Or look up your tv brand refresh rate setting name to find it

Very much in

The Beach Boys needed to be the length of Get Back, complete with an hour or two of Brian Wilson working with The Wrecking Crew.  We got glimpses of how he put the music together, but damn I would have loved seeing him in his prime working on a few songs.

Beatles ‘64 is more approachable than Get Back. The musicians’ interviews are great, but the super fans’ interviews are about what you’d expect, weird as fuck.

Disney+ continues to be the buggiest streaming app for me. It's constantly lagging or freezing, and there's no button to skip begining or end credits.

Fun new show on Hulu called ‘Rivals,’ starring David Tennant, Aidan Turner (Poldark), and Alex Hassell (minor role in The Boys).

It’s set in the mid- to late-1980s (lots of music from that era for those who enjoy the nostalgia) with the main plot surrounding the efforts of a regional independent television studio in the "Central Southwest" region trying to renew its franchise agreement with the government.

As the title suggests, it involves lots of intrigues between a bunch of posh British twats living in the Cotswolds behaving like scoundrels and screwing each other over, both literally and figuratively (TITS!), in their personal / business affairs.

The first season is 10 easily binged episodes. Not perfect, but pretty entertaining. Wives and girlfriends will also enjoy.

Looking for a thread to bitch, this seems relevant.

how is Disney streaming so dumb that it doesn’t know that, under the same bundle log in, I’ve watched every available Alien:Earth on Hulu, and serves me an Alien advert before Thinderbolts?

this seems like basic data mining shit.  If I have to watch something, at least make it something you don’t know I’ve seen and might want to watch. Too big an ask?

On the ad tier? Rookie mistake.

Not necessarily a criticism of The Beatles, but many of these bands have final cut approval. So we get the Disney ride version of the band’s history.

The live action Lilo and Stitch is pretty good. Funny and hits all of the emotional notes of the original.

Also doesn’t hurt that live action Nani is a baddie.

Well this sucks.

“Disney+ is increasing the price of this subscription from $79.99 to $159.99.”

Glad I paid 3 years in advance.

Oh nice.  Didn’t know that was possible but yeah that certainly works out in your favor.

lol. Torrents it is then.

If it was just me I would totally cancel.  But I think the kids and I will have to discuss which is more important—this or Netflix.

You mean Bluey or Netflix.

The Beatles Anthology documentary is out. Lots of great stuff in it. I've just started the sixth episode and paused to say that I had no idea that the fucking KKK was one of the groups to come out and protest the "bigger than Jesus" comment.

Hell, one of those dipshits was interviewed, showing his face on TV in Memphis, to clumsily explain his stupidity and why he's so pissed off. Culture wars were just getting started, I suppose. Again, lots of great stuff in this thing.

Nix that comment about the culture wars having just been started. No, it was just another stupid battle that's been going on forever.

TIL Jimi Hendrix opened with a live cover of Sgt. Pepper at the Saville Theatre in London two days after the album was released, meaning that dude had to learn it in a day or so. Helluva tribute and show of respect, exhibiting how important that album was.
