We'll be staying close to there in Ile Saint Louis at the end of April.  Doesn't look like total destruction, but will be one hell of a long and expensive rebuild.

Looks like there is some scaffolding where the fire is. That is a hell of an oops by whoever was working on it. Hope they got out in time though.

The artwork, tapestries, manuscripts, wood work, stained glass windows (the Rose Window) lost.....  bottles the mind.

If they don't get it under control any iron work used to hold the structure together is going to go, and then it's not a pretty outlook.

Hope the hunchback makes it out....

That center spire is going up in flames. Have to believe it will collapse

Hope the hunchback makes it out....

He probably set the fire

As usual talking head spouting incorrect history

Boeing re-branding opportunity! /noCR

There could only a shell left when this is done. Roof is all but gone

I hate feeling this way, but seeing that many people crowded in the streets of Paris, completely unaware of their surroundings, is fairly concerning.

Damn I was just at Notre Dame four hours ago. I saw they had scaffolding erected all around where the fire is. I’m guessing it was flammable solvents or a short circuit or something along those lines. That is very bad news. I feel lucky to have seen it just before it burned.

Maybe it's this particular angle, but it doesnt seem like there a lot of activity to put out the fire. Haven't seen any fire trucks, no visible water cannons. Seems strange.

Live witness on msnbc says steeple just collapsed. Other networks not reporting that.

Tankers on a structure fire? Never heard of it being done before, but who knows? One big problem with tankers on buildings is that the falling water doesn't just instantly 'aerosolize'. Water is very heavy and could easily damage the building very badly all by itself. You also have to take into consideration the firefighters and other workers on the ground. People have been injured or even killed by water drops in forest fires.

I had to stop watching. This is so heartbreak. I lived in Paris for a year and have been in that cathedral a dozen times on the island countless.

This is a very big, hot, fast-burning fire. They could be holding back due to collapse concerns or other things we don;t know about.

It could even be a "defensive fire" at this point. We can't see how extensive the fire spread is inside the building.

Damn, there's fire tornadoes coming out of that roof.  They ain't putting this out anytime soon.

fire is almost to the bell towers. its going to burn down... so unbelievably sad.

Sheppard Smith is on it now at Fox..... thank God, let the rampant speculation begin.

He later said he was deleting this tweet because it was just 'hearsay'.  What would the cathedral staff actually know?

So for now it's just a coincidence that something happened on the week of Easter.
