Brilliant Screwball/Slapstick Comedy Performances by Serious Dramatic Actors

Featured Replies

I wouldn’t call big lebowski screwball or slapstick.  it’s goddamn brilliant cinema.
airplane! and shit like that is slapstick.

We’re ignoring the screwball, slapstick, and brilliant and just going with comedy apparently.

Is the bird cage screwy ?  Cause Gene hackman as a 6' platinum blond was pretty damned funny.

Like I said, we’re ignoring most of the words in the thread title. Under those rules, that’s a pretty good entry.

Tony Curtiss sure, but hadn't Jack already done Mr. Roberts ?  Comedy, but a bit dark at the end.

Jack did Mister Roberts and Operation Mad Ball before SLiH, but I wouldn't call either of those slapstick. OMB is definitely screwball, though.

If you are gonna bring him up, look back to Airplane! with KAJ, who had played only a serious role prior to that and was seen as a grump by NBA fans.
