March 30, 20187 yr I kind of didn’t love it like everything else he’s done. Hard to put my finger on it, but part of it, I think, is that most scenes were too jam-packed with content. It was tiring to watch.
March 30, 20187 yr agree on it being packed with content and somewhat tiring. but I still loved it. those dogs were awesome.
March 31, 20187 yr It had some moments but I really didn’t think it was all that great. Took my kids and the 10 year old liked it but the 6 year old was pretty lost with the flashbacks, Japanese and subtitles. Definitely not as good as Fox.
March 31, 20187 yr Really excited to see this one, heard good things so far. Also took me a while, but was fun to realize what the title sounds like when you say it out loud
March 31, 20187 yr I really liked it. I'm a sucker for stop motion and Wes Anderson movies though, so I was easy to please. I haven't watched Fantastic Mr Fox since I saw it in the theater, but I think I probably liked that one a little more than Isle of Dogs.
March 31, 20187 yr As much as I really love his first three films, the subsequent ones have had diminishing returns for me. I didn’t care for Mr Fox at all and I’m worried this will be more of the same for me. Also, semi-serious and semi-joking, whenever I see any praise for his movies now, I do kinda think of this bit from SNL:
March 31, 20187 yr Watched this last night. Not the movie. Going to see that later. But this did bring out a chuckle Edited March 31, 20187 yr by mdmost
March 31, 20187 yr The dweebs that do movie reviews for KERA were talking about it last week and whether it should be panned for being cultural appropriation with a white savior. Overall they acted like they liked the film, but wrt appropriation they, being white males, decided they couldn’t weigh in usually they’re pretty good. That take was weird Edited March 31, 20187 yr by Sawbonz
April 1, 20187 yr Wife and kids want to drag me to this. In Japanese with subtitles? Not my bag.Only the humans speak Japanese. And usually there's a translator that speaks English. All the dogs speak English.
April 1, 20187 yr Saw it at the Alamo on Thursday. It's an pleasant film, though very much a Wes Anderson film. I liked it. White savior thing is pretty dumb considering... It took an Asian classmate to stop the plan, and the kid is the one that changed everything Edited April 1, 20187 yr by GabrielsHorn
April 6, 20187 yr Saw it last night. I liked the opening music from the drummers a lot. The dogs were awesome especially Chief.
April 8, 20187 yr I appreciate Wes Anderson even though I've only really liked a few of his movies (The Grand Budapest Hotel and Moonrise Kingdom), but this one seems like the next level of pretentious even for him. Like he's saying "Critics love my movies no matter what so I'm going to do the next one in the worst animation style possible because I can." Because fuck claymation.
April 8, 20187 yr It's not claymation, it's stop motion. And do you hate all stop motion animation? I'm curious why.

It's just really clunky and jerky, and I can't think of a modern case where it added to the movie experience. But, I haven't seen Fantastic Mr. Fox, so I'll be sure to check that out.
April 9, 20187 yr Mr Fox is one of my favorite movies, love it. other wes anderson stuff I'm big time hit or miss with mostly miss.
April 9, 20187 yr Yeah, I like it all. Darjeeling Limited was tough but still good. GBH was the masterpiece. Only one of his films that not only was Anderson but also had some real life history events at playSent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
April 13, 20187 yr want to see this but may wait until its in the dollar theater since the wife hates any and all stop motion style movies.
April 23, 20187 yr jupiter and the oracle ftw. never really understood people that won't see something with appealing subject matter because the animation style isn't their thing. i feel like it's something you don't even notice once you're 5 minutes into the movie. i liked the story and thought it was well done.
