June 15, 20205 yr No shaggy 1%er here, but having grown up with my parents owning a nice restaurant and being wine snobs themselves I definitely know the differences between great/good/shitty wines. There may have been a thread on the other board about this, but does anyone have some recs for nice wines that are somewhat more of a daily drinker/grabbing a few bottles to have folks over and drink with? enjoying more Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon blanc with the warmer weather but this extends to reds as well. I tend towards cabs or zinfandels or really anything on the drier side with reds, and for whites I’m a big fan of Italian Pinot Grigio or sauv blanc. What’re some suggestions in the $15-$20 range that are passable? For my lot I’ll throw in “Odd Lot” blend, about $14 and very nice red, Have seen it a few restaurants around Houston; also had a dashwood Sauvignon Blanc which was really good for the price point for $14
June 15, 20205 yr One of the most epic wine weekends is in the books! Those tasting notes are really helpful.
June 15, 20205 yr Leftover pizza in the cast iron and some Dr. Peste. Still surprisingly fresh. Lots of dark fruit. Almost California in style.
June 15, 20205 yr One of the most epic wine weekends is in the books!I don't care what anyone says, i fucking love Cristal.
June 15, 20205 yr One of the most epic wine weekends is in the books!I say goddamn, goddamn!I did ok this weekend with an 02 Quilceda Creek, 91 Jabolet Hermitage (not La Chapelle - fading but not past), 95 Insignia, a 12 CdP from somewhere (drunk by this time), a 2012 Home Ranch, and a 94 Smith Woodhouse Port. All served around a freaking awesome lamb curry and an Italian cream cake.

September 3, 20205 yr I’ve been slacking a little lately. Squeezed in a quick trip to Colorado right before the kids went back to school. Found some gems in the local liquor store! One evening we celebrated a birthday and found a unicorn on the wine list! This is probably the best domestic Chardonnay that I have ever had. If you run across older Eyrie I highly recommend giving it a try.

September 5, 20205 yr Looks great, but did you really have to leave the price tag on the Krug? Don’t be that guy...Yeah I thought that said $109.99 and thought to myself, that’s a screaming good deal for clos du mesnil. Hell its a good deal for regular Krug.
September 6, 20205 yr Tonight’s offering: The Vineyardist 2012. If you haven’t tried The Vineyardist, you should. Small production Diamond Mountain. They make 3 cabs, all very limited. It sells out through allocations, though you can find it on the secondary market

September 14, 20205 yr any recs on a wine fridge ? not sure on the budget yet, 24 to 30 bottles is about right for me

You will be surprised at how fast it fills up, especially if you are filling it with anything other than standard-size cabernet bottles 2. Don't get a dual-zone. It limits your flexibility, and wine should be stored at 55-ish degrees whether red or white. You can pull the wine to chill in the refrigerator.

They aren't a fortune and keep the humidity at a good level. I have a 53 and a 111 single zone on each. Also, listen to AustinMT on the size. Mine are both full. Go to build.com and search around.
