December 11, 20214 yr My first “big” wine purchase arrived just in time for the holidays. Wife is unamused and immediately said she’s scheduling a full spa day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

December 19, 20214 yr How is that holding up?For a 50+ year old wine it was really good. More like drinking nostalgia more than anything. There were other wines opened that completed drowned this one.
December 19, 20214 yr Has anyone had cristal? I turn 40 in March and what to try a bottle. Is it worth it?

I just can't spend that kind of money (not can't... won't) for a bottle but I've enjoyed receiving it over the years.
December 23, 20214 yr I need a starting point on Spanish wines. Wife and I love Napa Cabs and Pinots.
December 23, 20214 yr I need a starting point on Spanish wines. Wife and I love Napa Cabs and Pinots. CVNE Rioja is a simple starter. After that try some Ribera del Duero. When you’re ready to have your mind blown try out Clos Mogador and some others from Priorat.

When you’re ready to have your mind blown try out Clos Mogador and some others from Priorat. Some additional thoughts. Most anything from Alvaro Palacios is really good. Spain has tremendous wines. Some are really great values. Others can get pretty pricey. Tempranillo is the typical grape for Rioja and Ribera del Duero. In Priorat they grow some other varietals (Grenache and others).

BUT all my local stores including a chain called “Total Wine” that carried it wanted at least $450 for the same bottle. Mine was $299. My rule of thumb is if it costs as much as or knocks off a decent amount of the price of a guitar or music gear I want I don’t do it and buy the gear

Not 1% enough to buy beluga but will be enjoying some golden osetra atop A5 sashimi next week. Cheers! Edited December 24, 20214 yr by BearCountry11 English is hard

Just mix up some Crianzas, Reservas, and Gran Reservas from different vineyards and find your sweet spot. I pretty much only drink Riojas at home these days especially a shit ton of relatively cheap Crianza. Edited December 27, 20213 yr by SimonBolivar

One of the greatest wine estates in the world, and their wines are embarrassingly cheap considering the quality and aging they do before release. Comando G in the Sierra de Gredos. Guimaro and Envinate in the Riberia Sacra. Raul Perez in Bierzo. Alberto Nanclares in Rias Baixas. And anything that Envinate produces from the Canary Islands.
January 17, 20223 yr NSIAP There's a site called NakedWines.com. If you sign up, you get a $100 voucher on your first purchase. Got a six-pack of wine for $40 that way, after tax and shipping. Of course then you have to pay obscene amounts on "craft" wines beyond that, but for a one-timer, worth it. Use your burner email address.
