Facial ID technology at stores will soon watch you shop.

Featured Replies

I thought that's what my Randall's Remarkable Card was for?

Just one more reason for me to stay home.

They’re going to see a lot of dudes looking at a lot of ass

Fuck this.  When are the brain scanners coming to read all our thoughts and persecute you for them?

Banks and casinos have been doing it for years. The cameras create an algorithm for your face so if you ever appear again after cheating/robbing then it creates a notification.

Its a little different in the sense that it’s facial recognition and not watching exactly what you’re looking at.

I’ll just buy my Brawndo from the comfort of my batin chair.

Don't shop at stores that do this shit so the "free markets" can sort it out.  Yeah, I chuckled while typing that out.

Yep, that won't cause any lockdowns or other assorted interruptions.

Will HEB use this technology when they are open?

The original Beastie Boys

This has been coming for years and is closer than you think.  Specifically to restaurants like McDonalds, Dunkin, etc which have been working to get this developed in stores.  They will keep a history of your orders so they know what you want when you walk in.  It also will change the menu screens to influence you to purchase certain items.

They already pretty much know everything I buy since I use my debit card. So now they will able to know what I am likely to buy when I walk in the store? Don't care.

This is what I instantly thought of when I was in downtown Dallas last weekend.   All those goddamn scooters.  Walk fat-ass!

I think of it every time I drive past dead dog field on game days -- it is astounding how much SEC fans will pay in order to park as close as possible to the stadium, because they are not especially ambulatory. Lard Lad ought to be the conference mascot.

Wall e and Idiocracy got it right.

I’m moving to Argentina.

I think we're almost here.  Faster than I imagined.  One facial recognition targeted ad company shot up ~700% in value yesterday.  Today, I'm seeing monitors in the grocery store AISLES telling me I'm being recorded.  Fuck.

I posted that joke ~2 years ago.  Thanks to Covid last year, it's more or less socially acceptable to wear masks now.  Maybe not full balaclava like the image I posted, but if this surveillance crap becomes ubiquitous perhaps enterprising clothiers will design fashionable masks that serve dual purposes.

Seems like a good time to switch to the little Tienda Mexicana that operates on cash.

Ummm, HEB has had those for years, in the aisles that have valuable stuff (cosmetics, drugs, etc.).

Good thing I buy everything online. No way for them to know anything about me.

Oh, wait...

I'm going to start going long on companies that specialize in altering appearances.

Thanks be to Crom I still have my Dr. Bukks and some Dippity Doo.

even better if they have in-house panaderia.

^^I have a feeling that can be defeated with better equipment.

Just a hunch.

H‑E‑B was full of cameras when I worked there in ‘92. They were constantly busting people stealing cosmetics.

Go to Uruguay instead. It’s a smaller Argentina with less poverty and more stability.

Man.. I hope they don't catch on to what types of beer I like. Then they might pop up an ad on my phone for a store that sells the beer I like when I'm out of town. Then I'll be really mad.

Well, they can do that in some ride share services.  Luckily, you wouldn't be driving at the time.

Ok

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.

It’s like the music industry. In the future it can allow companies to better tell you what to buy and greatly increases the rate at which you obey without you knowing. It gives you the illusion of choice while allowing corps to become pseudo-monopolies and squeeze out new business. That’s not great for the economy and middle class who pays for everything our government does.

I was in a parade once where we were behind some tall Uruguayan women who were occasionally doing some sort of shooky-shooky-shake dance. I can think of no reason for a single man not to visit.

That's my concern.  That and behavioral control.  We already have facial recognition cameras on the borders with studies showing they are inherently biased.
