April 25, 20196 yr Any recommendations on places to stay in Punta Cana? Looking for all inclusive and nice.
April 26, 20196 yr Wife and I stayed at Secrets Cap Cana for our honeymoon. It was all-inclusive, adults only, and pretty nice. We loved it. Beautiful beach, very friendly staff, good food in the restaurants.

April 28, 20196 yr Hard Rock is what you would expect. Massive resort, restaurants were fine, plenty of pools and the beach never felt crowded. Casino won't remind you of Vegas but it's OK, and easy to avoid if you're not into that. We had a very spacious room, though it was a long walk to everything due to the size of the resort.

Agree but I think that Casino is about as close to Vegas as you can find in the Caribbean.
April 28, 20196 yr Wife I stayed at Barcello Bavaro Palace a few weeks ago. Had our 3 yr old in tow. Resort and beach were great, but the food was a little underwhelming. Edited April 28, 20196 yr by 3adays
July 29, 20196 yr Staying at barcelo bavaro palace for a few days in October. My last few vacations have been very active and I'm looking forward to doing nothing and will likely not leave the resort. Except I probably will do one of the atv/dune buggy tours, is there any recommendations on that front?

Just sayin in case you decide to have a drink. It hasn't been a good year for American Tourists in the DR.
July 31, 20196 yr Just got back last week from staying at the Royalton Bavaro Punta Cana Resort. Our first time in the Caribbean and at an all-inclusive. Great property. We stayed in a swimout room which was great for my kids. Was expecting average food at best and was pleasantly surprised. The Brazilian, Japanese and Steakhouse were great, the Italian was very meh... Breakfast buffets were good. Casino was small, was trying to figure out a way to get to the Hard Rock without the wife knowing but never could. The Hard Rock has the biggest casino on the island. Royalton has 3 resorts right next to each other. They say if you join some Diamond Club then you can go to all 3 and use each facilities for free. We weren't a club member but never got hastled when we went to the SplashPark at the other resort. We survived. I'd stay there again but now I would like to try some of their other properties that Royalton has... St. Lucia, Jamaica or Antigua. Just wish southwest airlines flew to more Caribbean islands than they do now.
August 1, 20196 yr Royalton and Secrets sound like carbon copies of eachother. Did you have to sit through a timeshare spiel at yours?
August 1, 20196 yr Stayed at excellence Punta Cana a few year ago, decent all inclusive, stayed in better but all in was a good experience.
August 1, 20196 yr NorthLoop: No, there were times people at the doors of resort buildings would ask if we were interested in a 'free breakfast upgrade' if we listened to some presentation... we knew it was either a timeshare or try to get us to upgrade to the Diamond Club... a nice polite "no thank you" to them and not stopping while on the way out, ended it pretty quick One thing I noticed at all the restaurants, maybe its a Dominican thing, they didn't really grasp the idea of 'appetizer.' We would order appetizers, they'd arrive, and one minute later our main course was served... last meal there, we ordered appetizers and then asked for more time to 'review' the menu...still got appetizers right before the meal... first world problem

April 15Apr 15 Well, just got back from the Dominican with a destination wedding in Punta Cana.We stayed at The Finest/Excellence Punta Cana. The resort was nice and clean, the shower head phenomenal, strong tasty drinks, but the food absolutely sucks. They don't use any seasoning, and the salt and pepper shakers were always empty. That wasn't just a resort thing, but we experienced the same thing in Biyahibe. The wedding was on a Wednesday, so we went down a few days early to dive the southern coast. Driving was like NASCAR, our VRBO was nice, but the water pressure was so low, that you didn't dare use soap, or you wouldn't be able to rinse off. The worst food I have eaten, and some of the best food I have eaten. There was one restaurant, Beachside by Onnos, that was inexpensive and absolutely rocked. They had crispy pork belly bao buns, crispy pork belly fried rice, and the best chicken yakitori I have ever eaten. Nothing else was even close, even the high end places. Overall, if I were to go back, it would only be to Biyahibe. You don't get hounded by hawkers on the beach, very low key as there are only about 3k people. La Romana is about 20 minutes away, and has an international airport. It is cheaper than Cozumel, for sure, the shallow dives were as good, or better than Cozumel (same structure, but less reef damage), but the deep stuff isn't in the same zip code. CHIEF
