April 29, 20196 yr The Black Crowes thread got me downloading some of their music on itunes. That got me to some of their live stuff which I have been really enjoying. Looking for recommendations.
April 29, 20196 yr Rush - Exit Stage Left is one of my favorites. I had it on vinyl, but when I finally bought a CD player, it's the first CD I ever purchased.

April 29, 20196 yr Todd Snider's "Near Truths and Hotel Rooms" is a great record. Way better than any single studio record he's made, IMO. His personality comes out a lot more, and the in-between-song stories are entertaining as hell.
April 29, 20196 yr Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out is a great live album. And dare I say, the only Stones live album worth a damn. I can't find the whole thing, but Henrix's set at Monterey is killer: And this is a true fav. I never get tired of listening to it:
April 29, 20196 yr Not much of a live album fan, but Ian Moore: Live from Austin is my favorite for this song alone.
April 29, 20196 yr Despite @Chad Fuck feeling to the contrary, this is the Stones' best live album (Paris and the El Mocombo Club):
April 29, 20196 yr My favorite country album from its time: Song For You- Proud Souls- Somewhere Down In Texas- Edited April 29, 20196 yr by Goo Punch
April 29, 20196 yr I love Cheap Trick, so "At Budokan" is the correct response. However, jimmyjazz already listed it, so I'll mention two other CT live albums, "Music for Hangovers" and "Silver," both of which are worthy, esp. the former. Motorhead -- No Sleep til Hammersmith Queen -- Live Killers Zeppelin -- How the West Was Won Neil Young -- Live Rust Allman Bros -- Live at Fillmore East Jerry Lee Lewis -- Live at the Star Club J. Geils Band -- Blow Your Face Out U2 -- Under a Blood Red Sky
April 29, 20196 yr I love "How the West Was Won", but Page did go back and overdub some of the guitars to cover some of his mistakes.

That's pretty common in "live" albums, actually. For example, it's a running joke that Live and Dangerous is part studio album due to all the overdubs. Edited April 29, 20196 yr by Carl Spackler
April 29, 20196 yr This is from their 89-90 tours and is outstanding. Branford Marsalis makes an appearance on a couple of the songs as well.
April 30, 20196 yr Jackson Browne - Running on Empty Jefferson Airplane - Bless Its Pointed Little head

April 30, 20196 yr Maybe the record that had the biggest influence on me as a little kid was The Secret Policeman's Other Ball. Sting, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Phil Collins, etc.... mostly doing stripped-down versions of their songs. As a kid, listening to album rock on FM radio, there just wasn't any forum where I heard rock songs presented that way. It made a huge impression on me. I think I wore our two or three cassettes before buying it on CD as an adult.
April 30, 20196 yr Together at the Bluebird Cafe... Townes, Guy and Steve Earle. Second won’t even be close.
April 30, 20196 yr Songs in the Attic - BJoel Live Bullet - BSeger Live Rust - NYoung Briefcase of Blues - Blues Bros.

May 1, 20196 yr Jerry Jeff Walker -- "Viva Terlingua"Until this post, I just assumed you dipshits didn’t consider this to be a live album.

Have long had it digitally but found it on vinyl at an estate sale in my neighborhood a few weeks back for $4. Didn't waste a second picking it up. In retrospect, I should've grabbed the David Allen Coe that was there too for $4 because I didn't recognize it. No telling if it might've been worth something.
May 1, 20196 yr Knopfler and Emmylou (two of my all time favorite artists to begin with) - All the Roadrunning Patty Griffin - A Kiss in Time (her performance of Nobody Crying on that one is perfection).
May 1, 20196 yr Lots of good ones above. Tom Waits' "Nighthawks At The Diner". You can smell the cigarettes and scotch when you listen to it.
May 1, 20196 yr Jesse Guitar Taylor and Lloyd Maines trading licks on Up on a Ridge and Teye's flamenco on A Thousand miles from Home for one. That and LaLL was already posted.
