Any recs for treating bursitis?

Rest. Had it in my hip training for a marathon about 15 years ago. Only thing that cleared it up was resting.

Ok, I'm asking this because I'm old and it happened. If you don't know what this condition is I suggest you don't look it up because it was unnerving, though I might have a future in vampire porn. But if you experienced it you know what it is. Has anyone ever experienced hematospermia? I looked it up on the internet and there could be 100 things that caused it but it's so unnerving I'm having trouble forgetting it. And I can't get into my regular doctor until after the New Year. I'm just hoping someone can say "yeah it happened to me and I got over it. No big deal".

Had this for the last month or so. I'm on chemo so I get a fast response from doctors. They weren't worried about it at all (oncologist and urologist). Took an antibiotic for a week or so and it seems to be clearing up now. You're right that it can be a real headfuck seeing blood THERE.

I got the Rona on the flight back from Scotland 2 weeks ago. Knocked me and Mrs NNM down for about 4 days. Cough, fever, aches, pains, etc.  All good now, but I just don’t bounce back as quickly as I used to.

I’m friends with a British couple that live here in Houston but older parents, siblings, cousins and whatnot back in the old country.  One or the other of them frequently makes a trip back for normal family type of stuff.  Since COVID started they’ve both contracted it multiple times after that flight.

Why didn’t you just swallow the damn thing?

I had a heart/calcium CT scan today. I had to request it from my doctor but he had no problem ordering it. The best part is that insurance is covering it. He suggested I start statins,  but I wanted to make sure I needed to take them first and he agreed.

I took one of those last year and scored a zero, which is perfect. I’m either going to live forever, with a fucked up shoulder, or the damn machine wasn’t on.

Sooo...right knee is bone on bone and leg is bowing pretty severely. Need knee replacement in both but right is more painful. Noticed atrophy in the calf and can't walk on toes on right side. Chiro told me to get a low back MRI, and go see this spine surgeon who's supposed to be very conservative. Go to appointment, only get to see his NP or PA (can't remember what he said) who is very knowledgeable, slick, and very salesman-ish which I'm not a fan of at all when it comes to healthcare...shows me the MRI and basically says your back is fucked (herniation, stenosis etc) in pretty much the entire lumbar area, and can't understand how I'm not in excruciating back pain (really very little back pain actually- knock wood). Does mention my weight training has to have helped but says don't squat or deadlift (i haven't for a long time). Starts hard-selling EMG test, their PT and their knee guy...all of which (connecting his dots) will lead to his boss fucking with my spine down the road. I already have a knee guy I want to use who is also 15 minutes away vs at least an hour for the spine guy and his crew. I also don't want my back fucked with to see if it might help when it's not very painful to begin with- too risky in my opinion.  I'm leaning towards getting knee done and keep up lifting/stretching (yoga?), recumbent stationary bike and possibly cortisone and/or CBD to help my back and deal with it further if necessary.

Anyone out there had any spine work done? Any other nonsurgical suggestions? Thanks

Spine surgery should ALWAYS be your last option.  After you have tried everything else, try some of them again.  If you are really lucky - no surgery.  If you are merely quasi-lucky, you will have surgery and kick yourself for not doing it sooner.  The options get way worse from there.

Unless you are losing strength in your extremities.  That's a deal-changer

I don't know yet. They said the results should be ready today but my doctor is closed. I probably won't know until next week.

Well hell, I was hoping I would never post in this thread again but.......

Nearly 3 weeks ago I went out to turn on the pool pumps in the morning. Our pool sits on a small hill next to the house. Took about 2-3 steps down the hill and hit a still frosty patch of grass. My smooth soled boots slid out from under me and I threw out my right arm to break my fall. Big mistake. Wound up landing mostly on my right elbow. By the end of the day I knew I had more than "just a little soreness". My guess, rotator cuff...again. if so this will be the third time on that shoulder. That on top of very sore ribs and sternum.

Man, I feel for you. I just about bit the PA's head off when he told me I had to have rotator cuff surgery last August. If it helps, I will say this has been the easiest recovery I ever had. No pain pills since after 12 hours past surgery, just Tylenol. The therapy isn't even that bad now.        T&P's man.

What worries me is that while it feels exactly like prior RC injuries  I've got additional things going on. Super sharp pains running all the way down my arm, and any movement of my arm causes hellacious cracking and popping throughout my shoulder area. Even pain and stiffness up that side of my neck.

You need pictures, Shooter.  X-Ray pictures.  MRI pictures.  Lots of pictures.  Sorry man.

Slipped on a slick spot on our asphalt driveway by the trash dumpsters on a rainy morning 2 years ago, landed on my elbow and jammed my shoulder up. Same shoulder I had done about 15 years ago. Spent 5 days in the hospital with the pain. Didn’t need surgery after all. I hope it’s the same for you.

Got a nice year end present. Had to pee and on the way to the bathroom I got a searing pain in my lower left back and started sweating. Sweet relief when I went went. Think I'm getting a kidney stone.

We were in bed by 10:30 last night and fell asleep a little after 11.
This morning Mrs. Brat woke up at 6:30 in a cold sweat - temperature was 93.6 - four or five degrees below her normal.
Very lethargic and moving slowly, so I have her drinking Gatorade electrolytes and eating some chocolate candy.
She is now dressed, sitting under a blanket on the sofa, and appears to be dozing off a bit.
She says she feels better.

She has gotten in this near catatonic state three times since last year.

Wholly shit, have the doctors said what's causing it? That's scary as hell.

That is a very concerning presentation. Hypoglycemia?  Start simple-is she eating wisely?  Is she diabetic?  On blood sugar lowering meds?  Hope you get this figured out soon-scary!

My left hip has been hurting for about 6 weeks. I'm hoping it's only a labrum (which still would require surgery) and not full on arthritis or a break that will require replacement to fix.

Getting old is hell.

@Armybrat, I see you posting in other threads.  Mrs. AB ok?

Took her a while and a two hour nap to recover.
Thanks for asking.

Heart calcium CT scan results are in and I scored a zero, which was very close to my 2nd semester GPA years ago. No statins needed and good for a few years!

Since I’m still feeling pretty crummy from the Rona last month, lingering cough, tired, etc., I figured I was going to have a crappy weekend anyway, so why not get my flu shot and 2nd shingles shot. Got them yesterday afternoon.
Now I feel like I really do have the flu. This stinks.

That second shingles shot really sucked.

So after struggling with never pain from a T12 compression fracture years ago, I'm finally on meds. It got to the point where I couldn't get up without almost falling down. Normal tasks seemed to take a monumental amount of effort to complete.

Here's to gabapentin in hopes it makes it a bit better. Also started doing a few hip stretches to help with the nerve tingling in my right leg.

Be careful with the cortisone. Long term usage can cause problems.

My shoulder was pretty sore for two days after my second shingles jab.

So has anyone ever heard of this stuff? A friend of mine swears that it helps with joint pain, but I'm skeptical of supplements.

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/22915-hyaluronic-acid

Hyaluronic acid is a remarkable substance because of all the benefits and uses it has in your body. Here are just a few of the benefits of hyaluronic acid:

It helps things move smoothly. Hyaluronic acid helps your joints work like a well-oiled machine. It prevents pain and injury from bones grinding against each other.
It helps keep things hydrated. Hyaluronic acid is very good at retaining water. A quarter-teaspoon of hyaluronic acid holds about one and a half gallons of water. That’s why hyaluronic acid is often used for treating dry eyes. It’s also used in moisturizing creams, lotions, ointments and serums.
It makes your skin flexible. Hyaluronic acid helps skin stretch and flex and reduces skin wrinkles and lines. Hyaluronic acid is also proven to help wounds heal faster and can reduce scarring.

Thanks for the info. I've heard about HA for a while now but had no idea what it was for..but the 1/4tsp per 1 1/2 gallon of water is impressive.

Feel much better today. Was able to get all the Xmas boxes up in the attic and otherwise put away. Also installed this under the back seat in my F150. Absolutely awesome.

Well yeah it seems weird. Cause if something is the volume of 1/4tsp, isn’t that volume if it consumes 1.5gal.

But I assume it’s in the wording, not that 1/4tsp is holding 1.5gal of water. It’s implying that 1/4tsp it has the capacity, but isn’t 1/4tsp if it is saturated.

If the opposite is true, then why don’t they use that shit to clean up water after floods? Seems a no-brainer. So guessing the former.

Well if it make my shoulders feel better and absorb enough liquid to keep me from having to get up and pee during the night it's a winner.

Well fuck.

Just got back from UTHC, totally screwed again. Multiple major tears, irreparable except for reverse shoulder replacement AGAIN. Just about ready to give it up. Life isn't supposed to be this way, I've been through fucking enough already. Scheduled for February 8th.
