True dat.

Still... doesn't hurt to have a couple of Aces in one boot and a .22 loaded with Velocitors in the other.

Is that your bionic leg?

My first thought, but then I remembered the difference between heart valves and legs.

Can I bitch about my dad getting old here?

His 2nd wife just passed away a couple months ago, and he's starting to show signs of dementia/alzheimers, which his dad died of at about the same age. He lives out in the sticks by Kilgore, so my sisters and I have put cameras in his house, put Life360 on his phone, and given him a smart watch that will hopefully alert us if he falls or something. His physical faculties are still pretty good, but he forgets shit nonstop.

He was supposed to come visit me and my family next weekend, but lo and behold, he shows up tonight out of the blue. Got his weekends mixed up. Not a huge deal, but it's really worrying me. I can tell he feels bad about it too so I'm not being a dick about it, but man it makes me wonder if he's taking his meds on the reg, shit like that.

Anyways... I'm sure a lot of yall have dealt with this. Just need to vent.

FTR, he's exactly the same age as armybrat :D Hell they probably knew eachother in undergrad.

Ahh yes, at Phoenician university. Great maritime program.

My grandma got to the vicinity of that point, and one of my uncles built a "mother-in-law house" for her at his place. They had a good year or two, but she eventually needed basically full-time supervision. Uncle, my mom, other siblings decided that the only thing they could do was to get her in "assisted living". They explained to grandma what was going to happen and what a great place they found for her. She said she wasn't going to go. They were upset she took it badly. But she was right: two days before she was to go to her new place, she didn't wake up when they took her morning coffee.

These next few years are going to be hard, but can be incredibly sweet and rewarding.

My dad shrunk physically and cognitively in his last decade. He was an incredibly strong, intelligent, and curious man, interested in the people around him, the small and big things in the world, and contemplated the biggest questions of life and existence.

As he shrank, it became only about the things he could see and touch, sometimes uncomprehendingly. He was still my dad, and the moments we shared are etched into my brain. Wonderful moments of clarity when his eyes would brighten, and the thankless mundane moments of helping clean him up. They’re all equally lovely in my memory.

Savor the next few years, be intentional.

I don’t talk to my dad none of his kids too but he has a 4th wife to take care of him but my mom is still in our lives and I suspect I will be first in line. I’m already struggling with it but I need to get this attitude ready.

First time in years I took a diving fall face first.
Was going out in the garage to dump a small trashcan of papers into the recycle bin, saw a smashed acorn on the floor and tried to kick it outsidewith the right shoe.
Instead, the rubber sole of the Skecher caught fast on the concrete and I went down, landing first on my right knee with both hands outstretched, then faceplanting into the plastic trashcan which cushioned my jaw from hitting the floor.
Was stunned for a while and couldn’t get up, thinking my knee was broken.
But the wife, who had been preparing to run her car into the garage, got a sturdy stool over so I could stand up and then sit. A neighbor out walking rushed over to help.
Put an ice pack on the knee to keep the swelling down, and another on my right forearm & wrist.
Neighbor said to flex the knee to keep it limber.
Pretty sore for a while, but am glad nothing broke. Just a golf ball size knot on the side of the knee and a dime size blood blister on the arm. My jaw is a little sore from the cushioned face plant.
Rode on the stationary bike for a few minutes and iced things down a few times, so am good to go.

Biggest downside is now having to answer in the affirmative whenever the clinic nurses ask if I’ve fallen since the last visit.

Nah. "I tripped on an acorn" is all they need to hear.

Well, at least Mrs. Brat didn’t run her Honda Accord over me.
So there’s that.

Our doc says two in a year and Medicare requires rehab.  We don't have Medicare part B, so I don't know what that means.  Hope to not find out.

Yeah but now she needs to shop for a new husband.

kidding. hope you heal up nicely.

I feel you Brat. Took a fall a couple years ago getting out of my office chair. Pushed on the arms getting up and it spun out from under me. Landed square on the armrest with my ribs and shattered them. Rubbed some dirt on it, but it felt like a sack of gravel for a week or so. Looked like hell for a month.

We can all take consolation in the fact that no one in America has died of "Old Age" since 1951. Every death is categorized as "of", "from complications of", and "with" one or more Official Causes, and "Old Age" is not one  of them.

I have been having an a-fib attack forvthe pasr 2.5 hours.
It has calmed down a little since 5 pm, but me heart rate is still running close to 130 bpm.
Am hydrating and took an Atenolol pill to try to slow it down.
I do not want to go to the ER again and just lie there for 5 or 6 hours before they send me home.

So sorry. Get through this and look into ablation. We were really skeptical but it changed my mom’s life. Got her off all the drugs that dragged her down and no afib for 10 years.

Of course, she’s dead now. But that had nothing to do with the afib.

Damn, man. C'mon, I get worried when my normal 55 gets up in the 70's. I can't imagine hitting 130s and hanging there.

On the other hand, Miz Long's normal is 90s, so there's that.

Cute nurse at least?

I'm not a doctor, but I think that's exactly what they do with the cardioversion.  They shock it back into regular rhythm.

By the way, "rhythm" is a ridiculous word to spell.  I don't think I've ever spelled it correctly on the first try.

It's fine when the plumber's actually there to do the relight. I've got a son and son-in-law who've had the ablation procedure, stopped the afib for both.

Yep, they tried adjusting my pacemaker but it didn’t work, so now they’re going to taze my heart.

How long was recovery?

Day in bed at home was because had a bleedy leg vein, no problemo.

No heart tazing necessary!
A new medication they used overnight got the heart rhythm back to normal.
The doctor will come by in a while to issue discharge orders so we can check out.
In the meantime I just ordered breakfast.
My regular cardio team will take over from here.
I already had an appointment on the 18th for an echo scan & followup.

Still time for a sponge bath if you ask nicely.

Anyone have experience with Rogaine?  I'm 39 and had a completely full head of hair until maybe a month or two ago.  At my last haircut (early September) my barber confirmed it was starting to thin on top.  I still appear to have a full head, and want to keep it that way if possible.  Just ordered a shot of Rogaine and curious if I completely wasted $ or not.

I've been taking Propecia for over 20 years.  I'm 60, and have a pretty decent head of hair.

No side effects whatsoever for me.  YMMV

The rare event that feels like a "hook'em" is correct from me. Glad to hear it.

Went to bed at 7 last nite after a bowl of tomato soup.
Didn’t wake up until 5:30 and got up at 6.
Sure was nice after getting only one hour’s sleep in the two nights at the hospital.
The parade of nurses & technicians every hour on the hour and some in between just wore me plumb out.
Think I’ll take a nap after a light breakfast.

I know this might be dumb, but have you ever tried deep breathing techniques along with meditation?  It sures helps me most of the time.

Good luck AB🙏🙏🙏

Back home this afternoon - just hoping they got the right meds this time.
Never watched any of the election campaign coverage, nor election night drama - the old ticker doesn’t tolerate any of that clownshow stuff.
But Wednesday I started watching the cable talking heads and apparently all the angst & gloating proved to be too much.

Oh well, the sawbones palace made a few thousand more and my cardiologist probably paid off his Porsche.
