Alright you surly assholes, I know everyone has an opinion on this, and it should be fun to discuss and hate on each others rankings. I made a spreadsheet with all 22 movies listed and some other interesting data about them. Feel free to adjust it how you like, sort by other categories, and see how your ratings stack up against RT or Metacritic. I think it's interesting to see the budget and gross as well, and you can they earned over 20 billion collectively!

You can edit the sheets, and then copy your personal rankings directly into the surly post window, and it will retain the column and row structure. Do not to use the same number twice, or you'll look regarded.

Here's the original list in chronological order:

Every other movie is a step down and mostly interchangeable, with Thor: Dark World, IM3 and The Incredible Hulk being last.  Endgame was such a treat in theaters, and surprising in all the right ways.

Have not seen any Iron Man because I do not like him (he's rich and smart, like Batman, with no actual powers) or the first Ant-Man or Spiderman: Homecoming

Also, shouldn't this be amended after Spiderman: Far from Home as that is the actual 100% end of Phase 4?

I really don't remember having a problem with Thor: Dark World. I don't remember having a strong opinion of it at all. Why does it suck, again?

I haven't seen either Ant-Man, the Hulk, or Captain Marvel.

you should see iron man.  it's one of the best comic book movies ever made. 2/3 aren't necessary.

Infinity war
Endgame
Ragnarok
Avengers
Civil war
Iron man 1
Gaurdians 1
Ultron
Wintersoldier
Black panther/ant-man

Its not top 10 but could be top 15 ...you gotta admit it is a very tough competition with how great some of them have been

For me, its in the bottom.....of my top 10.

I thought there were maybe like eight total of these movies.  I wonder if they will reach the 100 mark by 2030.

It's just for fun, everyone has opinions. I see a lot of variance on ranking GotG2. I thought that was a top 5 movie, but some think it's bottom 5.

Most have IW and EG top 5, which is great considering how important both are to the franchise.

Share your ranking with us!

I'd have to go:

1.) Dr Strange

2.) Thor: Dark Work

3,) Captain America: Civil War

4.) Avengers, Age of Ultron

5.) Captain America: The Winter Soldier

6.) Ant-Man and the Wasp

7.) Thor: Ragnarok

8.) Avengers: Endgame

9.) Captain America: The First Avengers

10.) Guardians of the Galaxy

11.) The Avengers

12.) Avengers Infinity War

13.) Captain Marvel

14.) Black Panther

15.) Ant Man

16.) Iron Man 3

17.) Iron Man 2

18.) The Incredible Hulk

19.) Thor

20.) Iron Man

21.) Spider-Man: Homecoming

22.) Guardians of the Galacy Vol. 2

Of course I wouldn't take my rankings too seriously as I've never seen any of the movies and just ranked them based on title.

If you like video essays (and I love video essays), a bunch of youtubers have started a series called "One Marvelous Scene" where each person picks a scene from a Marvel movie and breaks down what makes the scene great. There's some really good stuff on there.

Like this one. This video not only breaks down a great scene, but gives some background into why Joss Whedon left, how we got the Russos, how Ike Perlmutter almost destroyed the MCU, why the Edgar Wright Antman was never made, etc.

I love this stuff.

Can't they all just go away.

On a more serious note, some, many even, of them are perfectly good movies.  I'm just so bloody tired of comic book/superhero movies.  I'd be tired of Bourne, or Star Trek, or Star Wars . or Alien movies (tired of them, too, at what 6-7 over 30 years?) too if there were 3-4 released every year.  Probably even Coen Brothers.

Attention attention!  Look at me!  I have to stop into this thread twice to tell everyone I don't care!

I still need to see Captain Marvel and Endgame but man some of yall sleeping on Spiderman Homecoming

no particular order within the tiers.

i probably mis-remembered what iron man 2 was like, probably confused it for spider-man 2 which was a good sequel.

black panther is a generous B because that movie should be a C.  but i dont give Cs because the rest of the movies are so bad they deserve Ds.

In a universe without Robert Downey Jr and Iron Man, not even sure we’re having this discussion.
  • 1 year later...

Full disclosure,  I hadn't watched a MCU movie other than first two iron man flicks and one of the thor movies. I wasn't invested in the series but I did watch Infinity War and loved it. So much happening and so good. Really want to watch Guardians now as well.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy.

I really couldn't give a rat fuck about any of those others.  The group ones and Spiderman are particularly terrible, although I did like the spidy cartoon.

Not really sure why these weren't included, but these were the only three others that truly held my interest for the full movie.

2. X-men

3. Deadpool 1 and 2

4. for some reason, Logan

I don't really know what MCU means, but I though all of these have that marvel page flippy thing at the beginning, so not sure why they aren't included.

The biggest hole in my movie going experience is super hero movies and James Bond movies.  For the life of me, I am not sure why I simply can't stay interested in them.  Apart from the one's above.

Oh oh.

I really do care about the one I listed....

Only one of those is MCU, GotG. I know, I know, you don't care.

No, I think I'm more lazy than I really don't care.

Why can some movies have the flippy marvel thing but not be in MCU?

NOT FAIR!

Any of the ones owned by Fox or Sony are not MCU movies as they weren't developed by Marvel Studios. Marvel now owns the rights to the future Fox movies since Disney bought Fox. Sony has a deal with Marvel where they allow some of their properties to be in the Marvel universe like the newer Spiderman movies. But Venom is not MCU, not yet at least.
