Yes. It was working. Then Trump tore it up. Your link to articles from 2024, long after Trump pulled us out of the deal, are completely irrelevant.

@WhatTheBuck @Biff Tannen @wildcat09 - I was wrong. For some reason I thought I remembered that Iran was caught openly flaunting JCPOA but I just looked it up and was wrong-- all the IAEA and flagarant violations were right AFTER Trump pulled us out of the agreement (for reasons I'm still not able to understand) I had misremembered it being before. Or maybe I heard some misinformation at some point and took it as gospel. Either way-- sorry for the derail around JCPOA because you guys are correct.

So let's just go back to that, eh?

Whoa whoa, I think admitting wrongness is against CR rules. You’re supposed to fight back no matter how irrational the argument.

For real though, good on you.

The goal is growth and knowledge and, God willing, ultimately a modicum of wisdom. Even though I'm an ancient person.

Just read some pundits who think there is a chance that maybe Iran will now do a deal for sanctions relief, now that it's got a shambles of a nuclear program left to protect or leverage.

Talk about "never split the difference". oof.

Trump pulled out of the agreement for no other reason than Obama did it.  Granted, it was a less-than-perfect deal, so subject to criticism, which gave Trump some cover.

It wasn't perfect, but at least Iran was abiding by it. We might be on the brink of a near global catastrophe because Trump's ego couldn't allow a black man to have the credit.

I saw you allude to the WWIII scenario in the other thread as well. What are you thinking as far as the cause-and-effect that could lead to a "near global catastrophe" as you say, because I'm not reading or hearing this from anyone who does these sorts of analysis for a living (yet, at least).

I'm not sure, I will have to do some more reading. I don't really have a coherent scenario in my mind, it just all feels really ominous.

I'm not one to discount any probabilities or likely outcomes and concede you might be right, but as my therapist likes to remind me, feelings are facts.

I wouldn't put it past Israel to use nukes if Iran was able to do serious damage. But I don't think they'll be able to.

Y'all forget, the adults are now in charge.  The dipshit, mobster grifters got this, and as we all know, the only people dumber are their followers, and the people they put in charge of everything.

I don't know shit about fuck, just speculating. If America get's directly involved, we're all fucked, and I can see it being part of the crazy evangelical bring on the rapture bullshit. I'm convined these days though that most of them don't actually believe their religious bullshit and know it's all a pretext to be a supremecist asshole so they might not do it knowing goddamned well there ain't no rapture coming.

I also think a nuke is going to be used relatively soon and if its used in war anywhere it's MAD thereafter. I've previously suspected that if Putin is truly in danger of losing to Ukraine outright he might nuke Kyiv out of pure desperation or as an ultimate fuck you before putting a bullet in how own skull. Maybe Bibi does it to Iran for whatever whack job reason.

Kids today get everything just handed to them.

They already get to skip class to run school shooter drills.

Now they get to skip even more class to practice the hide under your desk and kiss your ass goodbye drill.

Plus, one lucky kid gets to skip even more class. It's straight to the principal's office for the first kid who points out hiding under your desk isn't going to do shit if you are nuked, and you'd probably wish you were dead if you somehow did manage to survive it.

I wouldn't know what that's like though. It's not like I did that in 4th grade and then again in 6th grade.

I do not know who first said something about what happens when the insane people get control of the asylum, but if the nutcases remain in control we will surely find out.

I wish twitter still worked like it used to.   Used to be able to catch up on shit like this very efficiently.

He was essentially working towards an exact copy of JCPOA.   There was realistically never going to be a deal that worked better with the situation than JCPOA.  It was absurdly stupid to throw it out, but he was on a mission to show Obama he would have no legacy

I’m sure our resident libertarians will have some reason they think it’s ok, actually, if Trump nukes Tehran.

Is bombing cities really going to stop nuclear proliferation? Seems to me it would do the opposite.

And again, we had a agreement that took care of this problem and Trump just ripped it up for no reason other than Obama made it.

This is going to be the most unpopular war in US history. Trump has not prepped us for this at all. At least Bush brainwashed many of us into thinking Iraq was going to launch a chemical/biological/nuclear attack any moment.

Just glad coincidentally nobody in my immediate family is currently of draftable age.

@Anastasis gotta be cooking up the Citizen Kane of Both Sides posts right now

There’s a chance that one of two things are about to happen: Israel is about to use a nuke, or Dotard - thinking he’s a master negotiator - told them “no, you don’t wed to do that, we’ll hit em with bunker busters for you.”
The chances of a nuclear exchange and/or American direct involvement are rising rapidly.

Nah, just hoping for the funniest possible "this timeline" outcome at this point. After Iranian leadership is decapitated we fly Reza Pahlavi in to set up an interim transition government.

I am not sold in the nuclear risk talk from Israel or the US, but I tell you what, the funniest possible "this timeline" outcome would be Israel nuking Iran because Iran is poised to violate international expectations regarding nuclear non-proliferation.

And Gaza. For real, you know this sick fuck has it in his mind that once these places are ethnically cleansed, he can turn them into real estate deals. He literally already said that about Gaza.

I never bought for a second that Iraq posed any danger to the U.S. Saddam may have been a threat to his Arab neighbors and to non-Sunni Iraqis, but never to America. I knew Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. That was obvious smoke. Bin Laden would view Saddam Hussein as an apostate and would never partner with him. I also knew as soon as Dubya was elected that we’d be at war with Iraq by the time Bush was running for reelection. That was going to happen regardless of 9/11. The terrorist attacks just gave him a convenient excuse.

Lindsey Graham was on Face the Nation yesterday arguing that the U.S. should get involved and finish the job that Bibi started.

And all of Iran loves the Americans forever after.

And all of Iran loves the Americans forever after.

It worked great in Iraq and Afghanistan! Also, the last time we over-threw the Iranian government went swell.

Do you think getting vaporized won't hurt much?

I don't think my wife and daughters have heard anything at all about this. I'm not telling them anything. Why worry them when we're all likely dead men and women walking anyway. At least if this goes south any more than it has already.

Chances are they eventually stand down as long as trump does nothing, but if he and his pack of retarded cunts launch the US into war with Iran all bets are off

Keeping the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab Strait open will be a challenge for those nations dependent on those chokepoints for oil, goods and military transport.
