March 25, 20187 yr Author Another breakfast from Willa Jean: Braised lamb + grits + grilled spring onions + crispy garlic + poached egg.
March 25, 20187 yr omg, Shaya. Some of my biggest kitchen disasters have been in an effort to duplicate their menu.
March 25, 20187 yr okay, lets see here: Octopus Carpaccio from Domenica Heirloom Tomato Salad and Steak Board from Doris Metropolitan Some stuff from R'Evoloution Pig out board and a cheese accompaniment Creole Cioppino Shrimp & Grits Shrimp & Crawfish from "The Spot" in Houma Sucre
March 25, 20187 yr Random shit on my phone I don't remember where it's from I think this is Red Snapper from Peche, but I can't be sure. The coasters are from R'Evolution, but I don't think it's a current menu item... Charcuterie from City Pork, in BR Gnocchi with what looks like crab meat...no idea where it's from, but the timeline puts in somewhere in NOLA. Anyone recognize the plates? No idea...maybe "The Shack", in Houma
March 25, 20187 yr Found a few more...First, Cochon Butcher Mac & Cheese Pig Mac Ceviche from Herbsaint Peche: Ground Shrimp & Noodles (probably my favorite thing on their menu) Drum Catfish with pickled greens More R'Evolution Crab Beignets Scallops and Foie Gras Char-Grilled Oysters from Cristiano's in Houma
March 26, 20187 yr ERhine, have you been to Meril? We’ve had some great meals there the last two Mardi Gras. Edited March 26, 20187 yr by Nick.O

March 26, 20187 yr Headed out for French Quarter Festival in a couple weeks. Looking forward to doing to some culinary tour planning via this thread.
March 27, 20187 yr Juan's Flying Burrito If need to stop on the way to NOLA, Chris' Po Boys in Lafayette
March 27, 20187 yr Headed over for FQF in a couple weeks. Never been to that, looks like some great food choices. https://frenchquarterfest.org/food-temp/ Haven't made any decisions on restaurants yet. Gotta weigh the "never beens" with the "need to get back to soons" and see what bubbles up.

I've only been once, and it was one of the best festivals I've ever been to, because it was all local acts and you just kind of stumble into greatness. There were 20+ stages throughout the quarter when we went. I saw some high school brass bands killing it. Then walked on down the line and there was a violin/accordion duo with a flamenco dancer (?). Then we found a bar by the zydeco stage and just hung out there. As to food, we cruised around the booths (a lot of the big restaurants have them). Did breakfast at Brennan's one day. Dinner at Felix's. Is Felix's still any good? Who has the best chargrilled oysters in town these days?
March 28, 20187 yr Not a fan of Felix. Drago's has the best chargrilled oysters in my opinion. Acme also has good ones if you are in the quarter and don't feel like walking to Drago's though it is always jam packed.
March 28, 20187 yr Agree on Drago's for chargrilled oysters, especially at Metarie location. However, nowadays, I usually just get my fix at Casamento's, since they've had them for a while now too.
March 28, 20187 yr Went to NOLAS restaurant on Friday, everything was phenomenal the food, the service , the hot chicks at the table next to me. had the drum, highly recommend . also had Antoine’s, I thought it was meh, overpriced and bland, cool history but fuck that place I fucking love nawlins though, great town.
March 29, 20187 yr How was Compere? Have heard good things, but not yet been there. Also, I wish that drink (Old Fashioned?) was in front of me right now, even though it's 8:30 a.m.
March 29, 20187 yr Author Drink was called a Louisville slugger. Bourbon, apple brandy, chicory and smoked vanilla. It was great. I don't go to Compère Lapin enough. The food has been spectacular every time. Just wish there was more bar seating. I usually just end up at Peche for a random weeknight meal while there on business, since more likely to get a seat at bar.
March 29, 20187 yr Love me some Compere Lapin.........great bar and cocktails as well. Really been wanting to stay at The Old 77 Chandlery (in the same building)
March 29, 20187 yr Thanks and will be trying it. Love the whole fish at Peche and, you're right, the bar set-up there is good when solo.

March 29, 20187 yr What’s the best boudin ball stop on the way from Austin?Yes.Seriously, there are lots. Hard to beat Best Stop in Scott. Rabideaux’s in Iowa, too, IIRC.
March 29, 20187 yr For Boudin Balls I love Billy's. It's the same exit in Scott as Best Stop and Don's. They also have a drive-thru.
March 29, 20187 yr I had the tasting menu at Coquette recently and thought it was fantastic. Unfortunately, did not take any pictures.

Ok rooms (weird antique + modern set up and furnishings), and long strange hallways and stairs that get u from lobby to rooms. Also, it is by far the loudest hotel we’ve ever stayed at. Barely slept both nights, as you could hear simple conversations and cars from the street as if there wasnt a wall/window between the two

March 30, 20187 yr the trick with boudin balls is just to realize it's going to take you an extra hour or hour and half to get to NO than the map says, because you should stop at several places on the way.
March 30, 20187 yr Well, my trip got all fucked up due to the weather earlier this week. I was supposed to be in NOLA by 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, but didn't get in until 1:30 Wednesday morning. Had planned to hit Finns for dinner Tuesday night, but had Papasito's in the DFW airport instead. FML. I've also been on a keto diet for about a month now, and I was trying to adhere to my diet as much as possible. Wednesday late breakfast at Ruby Slipper. Eggs Cochon without the biscuits. Lunch at Deanie's 2 lbs crawfish and a half pound of their cold boiled shrimp. Dinner at Doris Metropolitan...Bone in Ribeye and the tomato celebration salad as my side. My buddy got the same steak and the truffle fries, which are fantastic...but alas no carbs for pescado. I did cheat and have a couple cocktails which were probably pretty sugary. They were excellent rum based drinks served in a coupe glass. Wish I could remember the name of them, because the cocktail menu on their site is not current.
