May 3May 3 Popular Post On the ground for JazzFest. Did my family’s traditional “on the way into town from the airport” stop and picked up Bahn Mi Boys for dinner last night. Yes it’s attached to a gas station. And yes it’s worth a stop. Posting this morning for Molly’s Rise and Shine.
May 3May 3 Went over Easter Weekend with the family (girls 9 and 12 and these places all had options they liked, but they also like food), parades were really fun with the kids, and noticed most bard sell THC seltzers now. We ate at: Acme - I know it is not the best oyster in town, but it is my traditional first stop in the quarter for grilled oysters. (Things we ate, Chargrilled Oysters, Boo Fries, Peace Maker Po-Boy, Oyster Po-Boy, Shrimp Po-Boy) Cafe Du Monde - I think the beignets are overrated but you can’t deny the kids the powdered sugar rush.n (Beignets) Central Grocery - So glad they are opened again, getting a Muffuletta and walking over to the water to eat lunch is always a treat. (Muffuletta) Lillette - Had not been here before, it was really really good. We sat inside but the evening was really nice and in hindsight I wish we had sat on the patio. (Raw East coast oysters, Potato Gnocchi, Hearts of Palm salad, Hanger Steak, Kobe Burger, Braised Lamb Shoulder) Saint John - Everything we ate here was really good, however we went a little early (6:30) and there were only 2 other tables seated. Based on how that place is layed out it made it really quiet and a weird atmosphere, I am sure when it is busy it is much more fun. (Gumbo, Oysters Saint John, Baked Macaroni Pie, Charred Okra, Redfish Meunière, Shrimp Yassa, Creole Beef Daube) Luke - This was a brunch meal which is what I prefer there. The Trout Almandine was fantastic. (Gulf Oysters, Cast Iron Cinnamon Roll, Croque Monsieur, Trout Amandine, Green Tomato Benedict, Chicken and Waffles) Brennen’s - We went for Easter Brunch between the parades, I had not been in a really long time. They were on point for Easter and of course Banana’s foster before noon is amazing. (Turtle Soup, Gumbo, Strawberry Trifle, Eggs Hussarde, Eggs Sardou, Bananas Foster) Mr. B’s - Classic, easy, dependable, (Duck Springrolls, Gumbo Ya Ya, Corn and Crab soup, BBQ Shrimp, Bacon wrapped Shrimp and grits, Pasta Jambalaya, Soft Shell Crab)
May 3May 3 Next stop with the fam (before ditching the kids with the nanny for a kids-free JazzFest today), Parkway for some Pre-Fest lunch. Also some pre Fest boozing. Not pictured because I forgot to take any photos were the actual poboys, but they were on point as always.
May 31May 31 I am heading to New Orleans for the first time since 2015. This trip is for work. Our office is in Canal Place, so I decided to just stay at the Westin there. We are doing a work dinner on Thursday night, but that means I am on my own on Wednesday. Thought I would look for somewhere in the quarter to go. It is between GW Fins, Bayona, and Galatoire's at the moment.
May 31May 31 Go see your boy Robert at Sylvain! Seriously, summers are getting rougher. BABs and Justine just closed.

June 1Jun 1 Recommend a reservation at Mr. Bs...might even be required. Going there myself on the next trip to NO later this summer.
June 10Jun 10 Did dinner at Mr. B's one night, Arnaud's another, and had some beignets. For a quick work trip, successful.
June 19Jun 19 Bump since we’ll be driving through next weekend. I’ll come back to read the recs for a drive by lunch
June 25Jun 25 Back to this. Family is driving through NO and stopping for lunch on Saturday. Recs for a nicer lunch (it is a birthday celebration trip) that is somewhat easy on/off?
June 25Jun 25 Easy on/off? Drago's in Metarie. Easier on/off and just passing through? Don's in Hammond. Edited June 25Jun 25 by elfenix
July 21Jul 21 Wife's been pushing me to think about my next birthday trip. We are definitely planners who normally have our lives booked out about 18 months ahead, but still. Birthday is not 'til February for fucksake, and I don't really consider 55 to be a "milestone birthday", but she's excited about it, so...whatever. Had some flight vouchers expiring soon and no other unpurchased airfare on the horizon, so we pulled the trigger on a return to NOLA. It has been 2 years, and we normally go a few times a year, so...long overdue. Quick flight in First Class, gotta call our private driver to make sure he's still in business, booked a Club Level room at the Ritz. Blowjobs-and-Po-Boys-and-Jazz, oh my! Life ain't too bad, after all...! Edited July 21Jul 21 by After irth

August 15Aug 15 I'm not as veteran as others on NO, but planning trip #4. I sill have a lot of spots on my list in the Quarter/CBD/Garden areas to hit, but looking for other areas to explore. Is the ferry ride to Algier's Point worth a lunch and a couple of afternoon drinks? I've only seen it mentioned a few times on this thread (will I see Sarah Conner there?). The area around the city park is another idea.

Dry Dock has solid po boys and some salty Yats hanging out at the bar. That’s honestly about it, but walking along the levee on a nice day is great. Edited August 15Aug 15 by We’reTexas
August 20Aug 20 We're going in October and so far have Brennan's for Brunch, GW Fins and Saffron for 2 dinners planned. The last night it's down to Shaya, Gris Gris or Gianna's. We've been to Shaya and loved it, but have never been to the other 2. I'm kind of leaning to Gianna's.

Went to Saffron not long ago and it was great. And, Shaya is also a favorite. Have heard good things about Gianna but, if you are wanting Italian, consider Osteria Lupo too (Uptown on Magazine, so in the vicinity of some of these)...had a great meal at the bar there last year.
August 20Aug 20 Damn, that place looks good too. That's the kind of Italian place we really like. That 4 course tasting menu should be solid. We did the tasting menu at Saffron when we went last year and it's probably the best meal I've ever had in New Orleans. It's between that one and one we had a Saba a few years ago. I got it mixed up with Shaya in my earlier post. We've been to Saba and not Shaya. Edited August 20Aug 20 by kevwun
August 20Aug 20 We can also vouch for the tasting menu at Osteria Lupo, really good. Gris-Gris is a good choice as well, although Saint John (Eric Cook's other restaurant) is probably a notch above, more refined. Finally made it to Saffron to eat last trip after stopping at their bar the trip prior. Might have been the best overall dining experience of the trip - food, drink, hospitality.

September 20Sep 20 Anyone stayed at the The Windsor Court or Four Seasons? Going in November to visit the in laws, and finally convinced my wife that we have to stay in a hotel for our sanity.

Have been to the Four Seasons for dinner quite a bit but have not yet stayed there as I have not breached the sanity/free child care balance with my in laws (but am close). Would appreciate reviews. I actually don’t know anyone who has stayed there.

None of the hotels down there are really bad, so you can’t really go wrong.

At the higher end, I prefer it to the Ritz and would stay again. Miss River looked good, but we only had three nights and it didn't make the cut.
September 30Sep 30 Popular Post My oldest son just took me to dinner at Herbsaint. He is a manager at Peche. He recently moved from the Brennan organization to Donald Link’s restaurant Empire. The managers get a couple hundred dollars a month to go to other Link entities within the organization. They want managers to try the food and check out the other places. My son is determined that I need to be his dining companion every month when we do this. Edited September 30Sep 30 by Gatorubet

Ernst Cafe across the street from there has $2.50 domestics and is ok to watch games. Those are both over by the warehouse district on Tchoupitoulas. There's not really a great place in the Quarter. If you want to Uber it over to the Garden District, Cooter Brown's is a great place for sports with good food too.
October 13Oct 13 Good to know about Manning's, I was thinking about going there. I figured we might be better off getting out of the quarter, so Cooter Brown's sounds good. It will be an easy sell if they also have good food.
October 13Oct 13 we watched the Texas/OSU B12 Championship at Cooter Brown's and it was great. if you're out that way that's the call.
October 16Oct 16 Going to New Orleans in March 2026 for a wedding of my wife's college friend. Most of their crew is staying at the Hotel Peter and Paul, which I've never heard of. Any reviews? We've been staying in the Warehouse District our last several trips, and that's our preferred home base, but I'm open to the Quarter.
October 16Oct 16 It’s in the Marigny, not the Quarter, and I’ve always heard good things about things but I’d say it’s on the trendier side of hotels. Elysian Bar is cool. But yes if you are hanging uptown it’s a trek back at night.

If you want to stick around in the Quarter, I've watched several football games at the The Corner Oyster House off Jackson Square, right at the corner of St. Peter and Decatur. They have enough TVs that you can probably catch whichever games you're interested in. Food and drinks are good enough, pretty standard New Orleans fare.

It's a freaky giant old church/school compound that they converted into a hotel and a banquet hall and restaurant and other shit. Super unique and rather amazingly renovated. Stayed there last year with my wife, who unsurprisingly loved all the decor - if that gives you any kind of indication of what it's like. I thnk we stayed in a converted school room or a room where priests used to molest kids or something. The place has got to be haunted or at least had an exorcism or two performed there. Hotel bar is very cool but small - not a lot of seats. There's not much around it but you can walk to Frenchman (~15 mins) or the Esplanade side of the Quarter (~30 mins) from there. It was hot as hell so we mostly ubered though. I would stay there again.
