Have you seen the current makeup of the SCOTUS? We're going backwards, not forwards, on letting our freak flags fly.

Also, even if it was illegal, he’s probably run out the clock on the statute of limitations by now.

My first trip to N’awlins without parents was freshman year. Went to school in Memphis, we caught the City of New Orleans at 3am for jazz festival. Ticket was about $17. Had about $40. Don’t remember everything. Saw Dave Brubeck, Dr John, among others. Took the train often down there during college. Drove a lot too as I had a frat brother from down there and we’d go down and get 500 to a 1000 lbs of crawfish for parties.

First trip was in 2000. My junior year of college. We stayed with some friends at Tulane. I took too many Flor de Caña shots during the pre party and passed out in the bar. We did all the tourist staples and saw Jerry Jeff at HoB. Even drove out to Angola for the prison rodeo. Great introduction to one of my favorite places.

Damn son.

My kids athletics always takes precedence over vacations. This year we finally had a free spring break. Making the most of it.

I've perused and gotten food and drink recs but the lady friend (no pics) wants to do one of the swamp/plantation tours. Anyone done one of those and have a fave? Is it even worth it?

We did Oak Alley several years ago and enjoyed it.

I like N7. I know it’s got this Bywater-hipster “we serve $30 canned anchovies in an unmarked alley” vibe but it’s become a really good restaurant and has a great natural wine list.

Saint Germain should be fantastic, will probably go in a few weeks as well if only to hang in the patio.

Just booked a trip for the first week in Feb (happy birthday to me!).  I've stayed in every Bonvoy property around the area except the W.  Love that location, so I figured I'd give it a shot.  Wife (no pics) requested Arnaud's and then told me the rest was up to me.  Hmm.....

You're my guy then.  Going with wife and kids (12 and 14) in late March.  Looking for a Bonvoy property close to the action but not in it.  Currently leaning the Marriott Warehouse because of it's proximity to the WWII Museum and relative distance from the nighttime debauchery.  Doesn't seem to have an indoor pool though, which sucks but is not a deal killer.

Which others should I be looking at?  I'd prefer to not need a car but it's an option.

Heading to NOLA on Saturday. Can’t fucking wait! Felix’s the first night, Shaya the second, undecided on the third. Gonna get Sunday brunch at Atchafalaya, another at Ruby Slipper. Plan to hit lots of bars, happy hour at Superior Seafood, have reservations at Jewel of the South for cocktails, etc. what did I leave out? Any favorite dive bar recommendations?

Jewel is great. As for dive bars: Brothers III, Parasol’s, Pal’s, Ms. Mae’s, Erin Rose, Pete’s Out in the Cold, Markey’s, Bud Rip’s, Vaughn’s, BJ’s and Snake and Jakes (the GOAT).

Been in town for a month. Mardi Gras was great and seems to have kicked the city into full swing. This Saturday is all the St Patrick’s day festivities, so the Irish Channel and Bywater bars I mentioned will be hopping.

Lots of pics to post, but in the meantime: Roast Beef at Parasol’s, IMO the best roast beef in the city right now. C0891DA4-1C31-49E4-899D-12D292F6F78B.thumb.jpeg.7eb210798a8e39c5ea34459a0446c0cb.jpeg

Edit: Ian McNulty just did a write up on Parasol’s and the block party (with a much better roast beef pic):

Anyone ever been to Luke?  I made brunch reservations this Sunday after we land.  Never heard of it but was looking for somewhere to grab some food close by when we get into town and it looked good from the website and online reviews.

Yep, Besh (BRG, whatever) spot best known for its oyster HH deal. Was there recently and enjoyed it, esp the scallop crudo.

Mister Mao’s definitely lived up to the hype and is now in our rotation. Really weird being in the old Dick and Jenny’s space - it’s been totally renovated. D&J was actually our last pre-COVID meal in NOLA, after Bacchus.

Octopus aguachile, avocado, pickled chilis and mango. Easily the highlight of the meal, grilled perfectly. Had this with broccoli cooked in crab fat.

Clancy’s. There may be better restaurants, but Clancy’s is my favorite place in NO and possibly anywhere. You’ve got to be at the bar or in the front room, though - otherwise you’re not getting the experience. We were at the bar recently amidst an afterparty for the Rex luncheon at Brennan’s, which made for Uptown people-watching at its finest.

Clancy’s makes my favorite sazerac. I’ve been drinking it for 15 years and always wondered why, and after all this time I caught Garth Swanson, Clancy’s famed longtime artist/bartender, using Pernod instead of Herbsaint.

It’s good. I’ve probably got a dozen photos from there on this thread. It’s in a great location for lunch when I used to head over to NOLA more often.

Order their version of the French 75, which is a truly great version of it.

Second line Sunday, VIP Woman and Kids.

Bacchanal Sundays. They may be outclassed by Houston on wine, but this is by now a national institution. They got a James Beard for their wine program, but their food is fantastic. Go for whatever seasonal shrimp dish they offer. The wine shop is finally open after two years, which besides Mardi Gras is my biggest return to normalcy. 5D397B1B-78D1-42C9-9018-87D2414C5EA1.thumb.jpeg.84e596c0e56cecee66683341739b7ebf.jpeg

I've never been a huge fan of Luke.  I stay across the street whenever I'm in NOLA (Intercon or Residence) and try it every so often and am disappointed frequently.  Hope you enjoyed it.

I would like to be adopted by We'reTexas.

For a while, there was a Luke in one of the downtown San Antonio hotels. I ate there several times when I had meetings, oral arguments at the court of appeals, etc. It was always pretty good, and a pleasant surprise in SA.

The downhill slide on that place was swift and sad, though. But it was a damn good place while it lasted. I miss it.

I've read that sentiment on this thread before.  But I've had 2 fantastic meals there (lunch both times).  Shrimp and Grits topped with lumped crab meat was elite but everything I've had was good.  So maybe hit or miss but it's definitely hit for me.

It was a great date spot before a show at the majestic. Just thought it should have been more quaint and the lighting was toned down.

Another awesome fucking weekend in New Orleans. We took my son and his fiancé and my sister. Fiancé and sister’s first time so we did some touristy shit. I’ll just list some of the places we went  in no particular order - Felix’s, Pat O’s, Atchafalaya, Sazerac Bar at Roosevelt, Carousel Bar, Vampire Bar, random bars in Metairie while watching St Paddies Day parade, Shaya, Paladar 511, Who Dat Coffee, Ragin Cajun swamp airboat tour, true crime tour, Aunt Tikis, Marie’s Bar, Elysian Bar, French 75 Bar, Spotted Cat. Didn’t hit half the places I wanted to. This place is ridiculous.

Because they had a parade Sunday and I got drunk, caught some beads, drank lots of jello shots, caught cabbage, potatoes, ramen, an onion, some bouncy balls, a t-shirt, etc and it was fun.

On my ninth trip to New Orleans I finally made it to Preservation Hall last night. Had front row seats for a brass band. Unfortunately they didn’t allow pictures or videos, but it was some of the most fun I’ve ever had in this city.
