Shaya is another option right there around the corner, personally liked it better than LPG.

Didn't get a chance to go to Shaya or Saffron, but LPG was fantastic.  Blue crab beignets, shellfish stew, and lamb t-bones were delicious, but the star of the show for me was the paneed rabbit.  That's a special dish.

The shellfish stew at LPG is da bomb.  I haven't had the rabbit yet, but the turtle bolognese was so damn good when I ate there back in March.

Oh yeah, that was excellent as well.  That was the 4th main that our group ordered.  We also got the fried boudin balls as one of the starters and they were very tasty too.

Really, everything was great.  And they made me an Old Fashioned that was as good as any I've ever had

We did a family style tasting dinner at Shaya before covid and it was fantastic.  We got a ridiculous amount of food.  Our server came to the table towards the end of the meal to apologize that they forgot to give us our 2nd whole roasted chicken, which they then brought us.  There was also a whole lamb shoulder and a bazillion other delicious things.  Luckily 2 of the people we were with live in Nola, so they could take home all of the leftovers.  I highly recommend it.

We tend to go to Saba since I couldn’t help but side with (Alon) Shaya after the breakup, but Shaya is still excellent. It’s just a shame Besh blew everything up, since Shaya in the period after their first James Beard nom had the best energy I’d ever seen in a NO restaurant besides maybe TW after their Bon Appetit award or Saffron now.

BTW, the Saffron family is opening a new restaurant across the street.

Brainfart, it was at Saba.  And yeah it's a shame Besh turned out to be a shitbag.  He had some excellent restaurants.

the rabbit at LPG was the one thing i didn't really find amazing. it was fine, but thought everything else was a lot better.

I loved it.  Best dish of the night for me, and it really wasn't that close.  But I'll admit I love rabbit.  I spent a lot of time living and working in France, and rabbit is a staple over there.  It became one of my favorite proteins, and it's obviously not nearly as prevalent over here in the US so I jump at the chances to eat it.

Speaking of which, Central Market frequently carries rabbit and I keep meaning to pick one up.  I've only made it once, and used the braised rabbit recipe below, and it slammed hard in the paint.

Looking for suggestions that are good for lunch while passing thru New Orleans?  Nothing too fancy and not too hard to get in and out.  Thanks!

Parkway Tavern, Dooky Chase, or Willie Mae's are all off I-10.  Opposite side from the Quarter.

Agree. We had dinner there last night (R'evolution). Wife had the shrimp and blue corn grits and I had the scallops.

Mine was last night too. I should have yelled out muledick, but probably wasn’t the proper venue.

Great couple of meals over the weekend in New Orleans. Had dinner on Friday night at GW Fins. That meal was fantastic. Started with the wahoo ceviche and the lobster dumplings. Wife had the Parmesan crusted halibut and I went with the Scalibut (scallops and halibut).

Spent part of the afternoon on Saturday listening to jazz at Bacchanal.

Saturday evening we enjoyed dinner at R'evolution. Started with their version of char-grilled oysters and the blue crab beignets. Wife enjoyed the shrimp with blue corn grits and I went with the scallops and summer truffles.

Sunday brunch at the Ruby Slipper.030b2d83e9bb1dc53915648364fea537.jpge67a58a8a5f11731991ed88c904b9720.jpg95e4c0d85d04a7e30808d183c7f4a4bc.jpgcf814c1adfb2dd500c8d402e1e437aad.jpg46e3e788a430cd4162968aef8dc387a9.jpg267c2cad3c68398e09a96bb82612c784.jpga5d81a66f55c29fdaafb44959e11c09d.jpg

I remember the first time we went to R'evolution I was worried about being under-dressed.  Then we were seated next to a table that had a person wearing a tshirt and gym shorts.

Yeah, I did slacks and a button down, but I think the dress code is more of a suggestion

Is it me or is everything in Nola WAY more expensive than it used to be?  I’m about to pay $19 for the crab claw appetizer at Bourbon House.

Looks like a great set of meals. If one reads your post in the voice of Patrick Bateman it’s more fun.

I have zero confidence in the food at that place. I’ve tried 2-3 times and it has been bad each time.

It’s decent if you just need something. I don’t eat full meals there.

Heading there tomorrow thru Friday. Tuesday will be the WW2 museum most of the day. Reservations Wednesday at LPG and Thursday at GW Fins. The rest of the week we're just wandering and doing whatever we feel like. Definitely beignets, gumbo, a muffaleta, and po-boys. Will find some jazz at night and hit up the Roosevelt for a Sazarac. Supposed to be good weather. Cannot wait.

Uber driver from the airport recommended Oceana and it was just a couple of blocks from the hotel. A couple of different gumbo dishes, oyster po-boy for me and crawfish etouffee for Mrs Mo. I'm guessing it won't be the best meal we'll have, but it was good. Made a reservation at Cochon for tomorrow night.

Fuck yeah, that's some good shit.  Their crawfish etouffee fries are a fucking killer hangover "cure".

Spent all day at the WW2 museum. Awesome, yet somewhat disturbing. A must see.  Tonight's dinner at Cochon. Fried boudin balls, fried alligator with garlic aioli, rabbit and dumplings. We didn't share dessert of chocolate chess pie and pineapple upside down cake.

Always got those at Cadillac Bar and/or El Dorado in Nuevo Laredo, back when going there didn't result in being decapitated and whatnot.

Today was a more relaxed day. Had beignets at Cafe du Monde and wandered around the sculpture garden at City Park. Dinner at La Petite Grocery. Blue crab beignets, turtle bolognese with a dessert of pavlova for her and butterscotch pudding for me. Then some live music on Frenchman Street.

Don't really disagree, but when here you gotta go at least once. If nothing else for the gram, and to say you did.

#1799

I never go to Cafe du Monde in the morning.  Sometimes swing by mid-afternoon when there's no line.  Some relaxing coffee and donuts to pad the stomach before assaulting it later with rye and absinthe.

It's filthy, overcrowded, and overrated. I also go every time I visit if we're with someone who has never been to it. Just the worst kind of tourist trap, but I feel like everyone wants to be able to say they've been there.

Haven't been to NOLA since last year before football season. This thread has me envious and planning a trip with my wife in January for the fuck of it.
