Going to New Orleans in March 2026 for a wedding of my wife's college friend.  Most of their crew is staying at the Hotel Peter and Paul, which I've never heard of.  Any reviews?

We've been staying in the Warehouse District our last several trips, and that's our preferred home base, but I'm open to the Quarter.

I've stayed there and as was said above, it is "unique".

Nice place though!

It can be loud, especially if you're getting in bed before the last of a wedding crew gets tucked in.

Either stay up and be the loud one getting in late/early, be mentally lubricated so you don't hear anything, or bring a fan/sleep machine to drown it out.  Worse on the 1st floor of course.

Lighting in most rooms leaves a little to be desired (understandable in the context of a restored old church) so if your wife/GF/hooker will care about that while getting ready, be prepared with a lighted makeup mirror.

That was the only issue I heard out of my crew.

Rooms are not cookie cutter so you may have a structural beam in the middle of or weirdly shaped oblong room, but in understanding what it is and why you're there that shouldn't be an issue.

It's certainly got charm and the appeal of something historic that was preserved.

If the wedding is there (they have a chapel / reception area and do lots of weddings) then it is definitely advantageous to be there.  Might be harder to justify if the wedding is elsewhere.

It's neither the Ritz nor a Hampton Inn, but it isn't supposed to be.

The Who Dat Cafe is a few feet away and is a great spot for breakfast and to watch some of the local characters.

We've done a second line from there to Frenchmen and it was, er..um.... interesting.

The Peter and Paul reviews aren't really doing it for me.  But it sounds just like the place my wife's college friends would book -- boutique and chique.  I'd rather go elsewhere, but I'll just have to suck it up, I guess.

Went to Saffron tonight for the 2nd time and I’ve made up my mind it’s my favorite Nola restaurant.  A tasting menu isn’t listed anymore, but they did it for us anyway.  It was so freaking good.

EJ Lagasse bringing the first two Michelin stars to the South. Bet the bros at Saint Germain are pissed.

Thrilled for Sue Zemanick to get the other star. She ran Gautraeau’s for years and her spot in Mid-City, Zasu, flies way under the radar.

I was happy to see Saint Germain get a star.  My youngest son was a line cook there until he moved to New York City in June to get different culinary experience.   Eldest son is a manager with the Donald Link organization, and they had nice things to say about the entire restaurant group. I totally agree about Zemanick.   The only problem I ever had with Gautraeau’s was the damn acoustics in the dining room.  The food was pretty consistently great.

Oh, I encourage everyone to check out. Saint Claire, a relatively new restaurant in an old plantation house in Algiers about 15 minutes from the fridge quarter.   I was only there once, and with my son who knew the chef, so it was a bit outside the normal dining experience because of all the delicious comped small plates.

But everything was perfect.

That’s the new Melissa Martin concept, right? Totally forgot about. Damn, holiday dining list is getting full.

We have not spent time in New Orleans in about 15 years, but one of our kids just accepted into Tulane for fall 2026, so I see a lot more NO in my future, starting with a family welcome experience this coming April.  We probably stay in the Garden District for Tulane proximity.  At least for this weekend, we spend all day Saturday on campus, so we are really just looking at Friday and Saturday dinner, and maybe Sunday breakfast/brunch.  Suggestions appreciated.  Here is my list from the last 5 pages or so, with at least one of Saffron, GW Fins, and Osteria Lupo tagged for this first visit.

Liuzza’s by the Track (poboy)
Domilise's (poboy)
Ruby Slipper Uptown (Breakfast/Brunch)
Zasu
La Petit Grocery

Saffron
Irene’s
GW Fins
Clancy’s
Lilitte

Osteria Lupo
The Kingsway
St. Claire (Algiers)

I have that rule, but it’s because I’m usually in bed by then. Can’t hang like I used to.

Some good choices there. I'd also recommend Peche, Butcher, Saint John, and High Hat is a good local diner.

For drinks, we usually always go to Cure, Jewel of the South, Val's is a good tequila/mezcal bar. A lot of times we hit St Vincent Hotel bar, Bayou Bar. A new one (for us) we dicovered this time was The Bower.

Enjoy!

Want a mind fuck? The Bower opened in March 2020. Walked past a soft opening and thought it was a sceney Magazine spot that would last a year or two. Guessing it was solid going into almost six years? Good lord, time flies.

Have Gabrielle, Kingsway and Clancy’s lined up for our trip next week but things are fluid. Wish I had tried out EJ’s Emeril’s before the two stars dropped.

We’ve been going every year in December for 15 plus years, this year it was a little gritty, and I like some grit in life. But a great time was had. Sylvain’s for drinks. Saint John was great. Chicken Rosemarino at Irene’s. Went to Cochon Butcher after a few years off and it was great again. Brunch at La Petite. Peche. Brennan’s bar for breakfast.

Found Grande Isle by accident (caddy corner from Ernst Cafe and across from Manning's) this past weekend. We wandered by for a quick bite for lunch and the bartender recommended coming back for HH from 4-6p if we like oysters. $1 a piece, raw or grilled. Grilled were just as good if not better than Dragos without the crazy crowd. Another HH item was the shrimp boil for $6 - basically a $1 a piece as well since they were jumbos. Nothing fancy but some damn good! Will be back.

I see they're stingy with the bread like Dragos is now. I remember when they used to give you a big hunk in a bag with every order of chargrilled oysters. Now you get 2 or 3 slices that are on the way to being stale.

It's very good. Dry-aged duck last year was great, though I'd surely order the venison and foie pithivier from the current menu.

Yeah, I saw that. Our reservation isn't until early March, so hope that's still on the menu then.

I haven’t been since Besh got canceled, but it was for years the best fine dining spot in the city and I’ve still only heard really good things.

#2482

Yeah, I haven't been in over a decade, but it was really good back then. I think I would try for Emeril's 2 star spot before August though if you wanted something on that level.

Group of guys go every year in December. Friday lunch at Patois was outstanding this time through. Everyone knows about Fins and it always delivers.

We have tried most of the old guard with fair to bad results, which has been a slow and steady disappointment.

For hotel, Le Pavillion is great and sometimes good deals can be had.

Was in NOLA last week and Restaurant R'Evolution was a great meal! Jewel of the South had some great cocktails! Highly recommend both.
